Kick-Off: 18:00
LIVERPOOL make the trip to Bern in Switzerland this evening to take on BSC Young Boys who currently sit in 5th place in the Swiss Super League after a solid start to their league season. Young Boys come into the game on the back of a great Swiss Cup win over the weekend and will be looking to take a huge scalp, in the form of Liverpool, when the two meet in Bern at 18:00 tonight.
Young Boys will be without Alain Nef and Josh Simpson – a former Crawley Town player, whilst the Reds will field a highly inexperienced team, regardless of who starts, with first teamers such as Pepe Reina, Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Glen Johnson, Joe Allen, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger all left at home for the Europa League tie.
While many would see this ‘weakened’ squad as a veiled comment on the quality of the opposition, it is more likely to do with the massive game that Liverpool have coming up on Sunday lunch-time, more than anything else.
The Reds would do well to be wary of the Bern-based side though, after they surprisingly put 3 past a very strong Tottenham side a few years ago. Tottenham went on to win the second leg, quite emphatically, but this young Liverpool team will need to be very well-drilled for what will be a tough first game for many of them.
Liverpool (from): Jones, Wisdom, Carragher, Coates, Enrique, Shelvey, Sahin, Henderson, Downing, Yesil, Morgan, Gulacsi, Robinson, Coady, Suso, Sterling, Pacheco, Assaidi.
