Venue: Anfield

Date: 31/10/12

Kick-Off: 8:00pm

It was a youthful Liverpool side that overcame West Brom in the Capital One Cup third round last month and Brendan Rodgers will be expected to rotate his squad on Wednesday as he faces Swansea for the first time since leaving the club in the summer.

Jack Robinson, Samed Yesil and Dani Pacheco all played in Liverpool’s 2-1 victory at the Hawthorns and the youngsters will be hoping to see their names on the team sheet again.

The likes of Stewart Downing, Jordan Henderson and Oussama Assaidi could also feature, while Joe Allen may line up against his former club. Pepe Reina found himself on the bench for Sunday’s Merseyside derby and it will be interesting to see whether the Spaniard is recalled for the League Cup fixture or if Brad Jones will keep his place.

Swansea will be without first choice keeper Michel Vorm, who injured his groin in the Swans’ defeat to Man City on Saturday. Gerhard Tremmel will deputise for Vorm, making what will be only his seventh appearance for Swansea since signing for the club in August 2011. The Swans will also Angel Rangel, who is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season at the weekend, while Wales captain Ashley Williams is a doubt with an ankle injury.

Liverpool failed to score in either of their league games against Swansea last season, so the Reds will need to be more clinical in front of goal if they are to continue their defence of the trophy. Swansea, in turn, are hoping to reach the League Cup quarter-finals for the first time in their history and make it a scary night at Anfield.
