LIVERPOOL FC chairman Tom Werner has gone on record to promise investment in the club come January.

The American chief’s words come in the wake of watching another inspired performance from Reds superstar striker Luis Suarez, who helped fire Liverpool to a 3-0 win on Saturday – only their third win in the league this season – scoring 2 goals versus Wigan.

Werner hailed Liverpool’s number 7, labelling him ‘beautiful‘, and further confirmed that the Uruguayan will not be sold, before insisting FSG’s intentions to strengthen when the transfer window reopens in January:

“We made a long-term contract with him [Suarez] in the summer and we are going to see a lot of his play at Liverpool. He’s a beautiful player to watch and as a Liverpool fan I hope I’m watching him for many years to come.

“Our intention is to strengthen but actions will speak louder than words. We are playing better and better each week. Obviously, we have made some mistakes in the past but our intention is to deliver, strengthen the squad and move forward.

“We know that January is a challenging time and I don’t want to say we’ve got x or y but hopefully the fans will be pleased with what we do accomplish.”

Werner’s comments echoed that of manager Brendan Rodgers, who fully expects to see his squad strengthened in the New Year:

“We’re looking to do business in the striking department in January,” Rodgers told TalkSport.

“The reality is that there was always going to be a bit of movement this season with the club trying to regain some of their money. This season was always going to be difficult.

“We’ll look to do something in the January transfer window, though. There’s not going to be wholesale changes in terms of players coming in, that’s the reality of where the club is at.

“We’re looking to grow over the next six months, we’ll get some reinforcements in January and that will support the group who have been magnificent for me so far.

“Hopefully in the summer we can build again.”

  • It a must liverpool invest dis january. Suarez alone cannot be relied upon. Hopefully we get two decent top class strikers, then top four is ours.

    • red for life says:

please rodgers dont buy sturidge for 15m,dont buy him at all.we can buy huntleer and bony for that much.

  • chester says:

hope so…. because if we does not add to the current squad we will end 8th again, but we must add real quality players top four is not out of reach jet.

  • Matt IOM says:

one is positive and the other is cautious, who do we believe???

  • fotheringham says:

their idea of investment is probably 25m . that poor squad which THEY left short in the summer needs a massive massive investment to compete with the top teams
we need 100m net at least pumped into that squad .
i bet you FSG wont do it !!

    • Mick says:

£25 mil would be a great January investment. Every window some Genious says we need £100 mil pumped into the squad. Obviously £100 mil is the answer, if only the owners were as clever as you.

      • bob says:

dumb ass ! FSG have saved over 20m on wages since the summer alone . that team is so average , i dont think 100m is enough . not if we want to be in the same league as utd , spurs and arsenal

or are you happy being a mid table also-ran ?

      • simon says:

mick , i think the owners are as clever as you though !
… and you are one dumb muppet !

  • steveO says:

100m ? and the rest . We need 200m put in for top players
We only have 2 decent midfielders ( Gerrard , Lucas )
    And 1 decent striker ( Suarez )
And some talented kids who need time to develop . Do the maths .
    We need 4/5 midfield /wingers + 3 top strikers = 200m ( for top players )

I know it wont happen > but its what we need

  • NJRedsFan says:

Why not £1 billion to spend this winter. We want it NOW!!! Anything less than top spot by next week is unacceptable! I bet FSG is too cheap to even ever spend £100 million in a window…..Oh, wait….
Forget that, what’s up with Rodgers! He’s been here over 6 whole months and hasn’t even won us a league title yet! What is his excuse…Oh, wait…..

    • redrum says:

another typical yank that knows nothing about football .
so .. ill make it simple – city , chelsea , utd spend lots on best players , we spend damn all on average players

      best players = win
      average players = mid table
      comprendes ?

      • simon says:

redrum is right , if we dont spend big – we achieve nothing .
to those idiots out there who want to build with patience , and are happy to give those robbing yanks lots of time – do you want to spend the next 10 years like everton have spent the last 10 ?
if the answer is yes – then go support someone else

    • Jack The Lad says:

Well said NJRedsFan!! The clowns on here have no understanding of what patience is, never mind football. I think they are all 12 to 21 year olds who never made mistakes.

  • Mac says:

Well we spent 28 million in the summer and look what that got us ~ Total rubbish .
If we want good players , they cost big money

  • NJRedsFan says:

Then explain how Utd lost at Carrow Rd and how Chelsea lost at the Hawthorns. Or using your £ = success formula explain Albion at all.

    • redrum says:

      duh !
we have thing called league tables in soccer . check it out sometime
      look who is 1st 2nd and 3rd , then look who is 11th .
do yanks ever realise we use a round ball ?

      • redrum says:

and even a total ret*rd will understand WBA wont be there at the end of the season . go watch some baseball – its a simpler game

  • NJRedsFan says:

Redrum you are right, baseball is simpler, and boring. There’s a reason it’s called our national pastime and not our national sport. And yes, I know that football is played with a round ball. I also understand business and economics and how debt will be the downfall of those who spend spend spend.

    • redrum says:

then you must be a total fool not to want your team to buy the best players , therefore having just a chance of success . mediocrity will be the downfall of those who dont spend spend spend . the only hope of having success is to buy the top players . if FSG cant or wont do that then the only thing for them to do is step aside and let someone else try

americans have been the scourge of our club for many years now . they are rich , ruthless business men , here to make money not lose it

  • Ray Pugh says:

So just because NJRedsFan is from America, that means his opinion should be completely dismissed as stupid and irrelevant.

Our squad does need investment but it may not take 100 million or more.

We do have a strong base of players like Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Gerrard, Lucas, Suarez.

We’ve also got some decent squad players and up and coming youngsters. If we were to add the likes of Huntelaar and Walcott in January and Llorente and Moussa Sissoko in the summer, we could start becoming a force again. These 4 wouldn’t cost the earth because of their contracts plus there are still a few to offload like Carroll, Joe Cole etc.

Finally though lay off the Americans (owners and supporters), some may not be from the Liverpool area does that make those opinions irrelevant too?!

  • redrum says:

I dismissed his opinions because of the ridiculous comments made at 4.15 + 5.15 . not because he is american

    • Jack The Lad says:

‘another typical yank that knows nothing about football’ —- redrum, Nov 19th @ 4:26pm

LOL!! You don’t even know what you’re saying. With comments and insults like this, your opinions have zero credibility!! Go and get that nappy changed. FAST!

  • Guthrie says:

Clearly MASSIVE investment is needed to bridge the gap to the top .

Average players like Gary Hooper , Ashley Williams or other Swansea players will not appease the fans

  • vickers says:

time for patience is up with FSG – serious investment needed in january or we must force them out

  • NJRedsFan says:

To Scouse the Lad – Without the worldwide support of this giant legendary club “your club” would just be a local club.
Redrum My 4:15 post was sarcasm, get it. Although I will contend it was in response to your £200 million post, you mafe it just too easy, served up a sitter as you’d say. You, in turn, jumped on the sitter with all the control of Henderson of late.
Scouse the Lad – Wasn’t it a Brit that sold your local club down the river to the two horse theives from Texas?
Redrum – There are fewer ruthless businessmen than the oil barons or Russian oligarchs.
I never said we didn’t need any investment and I know FSG are at a critcal point in their crossroads, Americans or not. Their faliure to secure Dempsey was an embarrasment and I did post and call them on it. Having players come back from injury as Rodgers plans seem to be jelling will help us get stronger but more help is needed. We just don’t need to sell our childrens future to do it.
I believe that once Whiskey nose is gone from Manure his influence will wane and then even the Lord will not be able to help them under the weight of their debt.

    • redrum says:

every time you write you make it more obvious you understand nothing about football .
saying rodgers plans are gelling because we beat a rubbish team at home is idiotic , clearly nothing is gelling yet .
thinking everything will be ok when our rival manager retires is nothing short of embarrassing , 1. its sad you think a club like ours has to wait til he retires to gain success . 2. its totally naive and stupid to think we will gain success just because he retires , there are other clubs you know

i was aware your 4.15 was sarcasm , i hate reading idiotic fans with that attitude of ‘ be careful ‘ ‘ have patience ‘ , and your lack of intelligence/knowledge of football is something typical in nearly all americans that i have come across . there is no way you can gain a understanding of the club ,the league or the game from afar

    • jimmy says:

We were not worldwide brand in the 70s &80s and we did ok then . People should support their local team , and certainly leave the running of it to locals . Sick of foreigners coming to anfield once a year , mumbling the 1st few lines of YNWA then being silent for rest of game , its ruining the atmosphere . Also foreign fans bring this passive patient attitude which we dont need .

  • NJRedsFan says:

Sorry I offend you so. I’ve only been folowing Liverpool for almost 10 years. I only obtained my coaching license about 7 years ago. And my best friend is a Scouse. How could I possibly understand anything about YOUR club or YOUR game? Even the most casual of fans realize that your most offered plan of creating huge amounts of debt for the Club and pissing it away on the flavor of the week

    • NJRedsFan says:

Will not win us tje league this year. Would I like that to happen, of course. But I’m smart enough to know it’s not going to happen by just throwing £200 million at tje team.

      • stevieG says:

dont be a moron ! chelsea threw about 150m and dominated the league 3 in a row , city threw 200m and won the league , utds consistent spending on players adds up to about 200m . spending equals winning ! simple as

      • redrum says:

Njredsfan @3.13 : Now i know your a kid or very low intelligence – i never even mentioned 200 million as you seem to think !
You dont make any sense , everything you have said is nonsense , making my point about yanks and soccer more accurate every time you comment

  • NJRedsFan says:

Neither Chelsea or City were immediate Title winners, both took at least two or three years.

    • redrum says:

it brought immediate success , maybe not to win league but it made them immediate contenders and cup winners . I am talking to a child , yes ?

  • Finn says:

A lot of money needs spending to rebuild , and i dont think FSG are going to do it

  • simon says:

Werner doesn’t know what he is talking about anyway , he is probably arranging the transfer of a quarter-back for our team right now

  • Bill Balaba says:

i still hold this feeling that unless we get some two creative ttacking midfielders of the likes steven gerrard and former player (alonso) we may not get anywhere. i bet on this. if we are to play the tiki taka brand of football of the likes of barcelona then thats the way to go. but i for one believe it may take time to get to that level. one thing is for sure the youngsters are too good. hey only need time to gel and produce the much desired titles, unless they move on.

  • Johnny Luken says:

If we could shift Cole (free), and Downing £10M in January we’d be set. 3 forwards; 2 up and comings (Abumeyang/Bony/Ince etc), 1 proven (Ba/Walcott/Sturridge).

Then in summer £18M Carroll, Spearing £4M, Wilson £2M, Carra (retirement), plus £20M net spend budget.
