Credit Where It Is Due…Or Is It?

WHAT a lovely feeling it was to go to work on a Monday morning safe in the knowledge that the mighty reds had stormed to 3 points, and that chortles and guffaws would be directed at other poor sods who happen to support teams not as fortunate.

Before I get into my piece I just wanted to share a couple of thoughts that have certainly made me chuckle over the weekend (don’t worry they are Liverpool related!).

First off it is the disservice paid by some to other Premier League teams, who, let’s not forget, are in the top flight on merit regardless of where their current form finds them. Why did this point make me chuckle you ask? Well, young/old whippersnappers/codgers, Liverpool record an excellent victory which is belittled because of the perceived level of our opposition whether it be Wigan this weekend or at Carrow Road a number of weeks ago. A Wigan side that has recently won away at Spurs and a Norwich team who have beaten both United and Arsenal, whilst recording clean sheets no less.

In this league, any team is capable of getting a result against any other team; to belittle certain opposition smacks of the kind of arrogance that can lead to complacency – something not welcome at all.

The second point relates to the nonsense stat regarding where Liverpool would be without Suarez. Codswallop, boulderdash, tomfoolery are words I would use in response!

How any serious journalist or pundit can roll this out is beyond me. Dabbling in the hypothetical is more Mystic Meg than Pulitzer Prize. Do I need to embellish further? If so please let me know!

Anyways, chuckle time over, game face on people; it is debate time once more! This week I am asking the question: Is it time we gave Brendan Rodgers some credit?

Normal process ensues. I will argue yin and yang responses and humbly ask you, yes you, to let me know which side of the fence you stand and why! Hey, if there is another side then please let me know!

Rodgers credit? Hell Yeah!

We now stand at 7 games unbeaten in the league, and during this run only Manchester’s City and United have picked up more points. Of course it is disappointing to have drawn so many of these ties but it is crucial not to forget the minutiae that have lead to this. Let me expand…

The teams at the top, on form, and high on confidence will find that decisions tend to swing in their favour (City’s first penalty this weekend anyone?), the bounce of the ball and the calmness in front of goal. In a parallel universe these last 7 games will have seen amongst others; Suarez celebrating a winner at Goodison and Shelvey bagging at least two to sink Newcastle.

This is delving a little too much into fantasy for me, but worth highlighting that moments completely beyond the control of Rodgers have restricted our progress somewhat. In terms of the Wigan game, let us not forget, Rodgers is still in the infancy of his Liverpool life and with a limited squad that needs rotation, has to experiment somewhat to get the best out of what is available. Personally, I like the three at the back formation for a number of reasons I’m sure I will discuss at another time.
[ad_pod id=”unruly-video” align=”center”]
This wasn’t working so he tinkered, taking a bold move in withdrawing Suso – arguably our best performer on the day- and replacing with a much chastised Henderson to ‘flip the triangle’, tactically outclassing Martinez, and from this point we were able to dominate Wigan and carve them open. Surely, even in the most ardent of the Anti-Rodgers brigade, this has to be applauded for both bravery and tactical insight?

Like him or not, in Rodgers we have a manager not afraid to admit his mistakes, assess a game as it happens and change it, regardless of the time on the clock. Not every game will go to plan or run smoothly so it is crucial that you have a manager able to spot what is not happening and change it.

Credit is also due in terms of how Rodgers has dealt with Jose Enrique and, seemingly, Henderson. The Spaniard after an impressive start looked woeful at left back, devoid of confidence and seemingly waving goodbye to Anfield. Yet Rodgers has deployed him higher up the pitch and removed the defensive shackles and he is responding well. As for Henderson, we have a player who is the model professional and seemingly responding to the tough love (unlike certain others) and grabbing his opportunity.

Rodgers credit? Hell No!!!

Come off it, are we not getting carried away with a win against Wigan at home? Surely all games at Anfield should yield 3 points, and games against the likes of Wigan should be viewed as goal difference fodder! Rodgers failed to learn his lesson from last week against Chelsea in utilising a formation with three at the back without a proper holding midfielder.

Utilising Allen in this unfamiliar role is leading him to lose his effectiveness and tire (although, Allen haters, he did win back possession more times than anyone else, as well as intercepting more times).

The formation change was more luck than anything else! Suso was by far our best player and what is Rodgers essentially saying to him when he withdraws him in spite of his performance?

We are in November, meaning that Rodgers is fast approaching 6 months at the helm, so why is he still tinkering with the side and with formations; surely by now he must know his best XI overall, and his best available XI? What frustrates most in Rodgers (as well as other recent managers) is the obsession of who we are playing against! Too much time is spent on thinking how to deal with this player of that player when surely we should be saying ‘who cares who plays for them, they need to worry about Gerrard, Suarez’ etc.

Do United, Barca or Real mess about with their team depending on opposition? No, they have a belief in the way they play and the players that they have, and that is why they are successful. Players need time to gel together and to find form and if you constantly tinker and mess them around they can never settle and never get a rhythm. Is it not worrying that even with a squad so small that Rodgers does not play a settled side?

Well there you! Personally, I stand with the ‘Hell Yeah’s’. Regardless of what I think of Rodgers I am a firm believer in giving credit where it is due and the ways in which he has positively affected the last two games has been impressive! But who the hell cares what I think! What do you think?

another biased stupid article . on the day a 3rd place chelsea sack their manager ( 3rd isnt good enough for them ) , we have a ‘writer’ not only accepting but praising a manager who has us rotting in 11th place and out of 1 of the cups already .

unbelievable , except your blinkered biases are becoming well known . we didnt ‘storm ‘ to a win , we beat a rubbish team comfortably at home ( as we should always do ) . Allen (who you praise again )was again the worst player on the pitch . And Rodgers fumblings with the wrong formation nearly messed up the day again .

only a top performance from our one top class player Suarez made this victory possible . you can dress things up any way you want , it doesn’t make it true . at this stage your articles are becoming jokes , i know exactly the ( silly ) points you are going to come back with . save yourself the time , im not getting into it

    • Tim Williams says:

Yawn bob! Did you read the article at all?? It presents an arguments for and against Rodgers, how is that biased???

Did I give my opinion? Yes, did I support it? Yes, have you done either? No, very droll.

You have written Rodgers off after 4 months, and given this I would wager when we finished 7th under rafa you called for his head too.

If you are going to disagree with my opinion then at least present yours and if you are going to call an article biased then at least read it

      • bob says:

ive given my opinions before , unlike you im bored rewriting them . your article is totally biased – in no way in a million years does rodgers deserve even to be considered for praise , he has ( so far ) been inept in every department that matters ( tactics , selections , transfers and most importantly results ) . the fact that you merely contemplate giving this guy praise shows your bias .

praise him when we are at least top 4 , until then stop embarrassing yourself . as for rafa – no i didnt want him out , a proven top class manager , successful wherever he was , made us great again , hampered by another set of american idiots . he deserved more time . rodgers doesnt have any track record worth talking about .
chelsea unlike us it seems dont accept anything but the best ,it shames me as a liverpool fan to say that we should match their standards

        • Tim Williams says:

You haven’t bob, your have made it clear where you stand without supporting it. How is it biased when both positive and negative points are made! You need to accept a reality of where we are and where we were. Is the current standing acceptable? Far fom it, but how is it you can not see the club needs rebuilding? Is Rodgers the right man? I don’t know, but what I do know is that Rodgers has made dynamic decisions in game in order to positively affect the game. This is a positive no? Should he be needing to make such dynamic changes in the first place? This is the negative.

There is a difference between praise and giving credit, or do these subtleties not sit well ?

We should match Chelsea’s standards?? Wow, did you just say this? Don’t even know where to begin with how wrong that statement is

        • simon says:

          well said

    • Tim Williams says:

And I you think Di Matteo was sacked because they are 3rd and got beat last night it shows you up a bit

    • Erin says:

Completely agree with you. We are settling for a man who has reminded every fan in the land that we beat Wigan. Done that every day since Saturday. The results have not been there. 7 unbeaten ? I take it the carling cup defeat to Swansea don’t make good reading. I wanted to reserve my judgement after 10 pl games. Sorry, the guy is a walking dissaster . The sooner we get rid of him the better.
      YNWA

      • Tim Williams says:

Please embellish, how is he a walking disaster? As for losing to Swansea in the league club, these things can happen particularly when you play a second string side against a form side with their 1st team. Rafa lost to Burnley in the fa cup in his first year, good job he wasn’t described a walking disaster and shown the door!

Belittling other PL clubs doesn’t sit we’ll with me and smacks of an arrogance which is increasingly creeping into e modern game.

  • Stephen says:

Suso might of had some shots(3), but only made 2 passes in his 30 minutes. He was only good going forward, and was a totally liability on defence. That’s why he was subbed. Nothing wrong being 19 & being an incomplete player. When Lucas comes back Suso will look good lining up in front of him. They will balance each other out.

With Gerrard, Allen & Suso on the field. We had little steel. While Hendo is not a great defensive midfielder he brings alot more defensively then Suso allow Stevie G to do his thing.

The teams you speak about which don’t change formation have the best players in the world at alot of positions. To ignore the fact that we can over-come having inferior players(Downing ect) by being tatically smart. King Kenny lined up every week in the same style & got fired for it.

How can be tactically smart be a bad idea in modern football?

    • Tim Williams says:

So are you for giving Rodgers credit?

In terms of world class players we mustn’t forget we have our fair share, gerrard, Suarez, agger

      • Stephen says:

If I was grading him, I’d give him maybe 6/10 on the season.

I’m just saying that the change was made because Suso was defensively a liability at that point in the game and Rodgers made a good change at the time. Otherwise it could of been a very high scoring game. When he made the change Wigan was pushing us hard and Hendo was able to provide the balance we needed to bring victory. I’m not sold on hendo the player, but in that game he played his role very well.

        • Tim Williams says:

The ability to spot what is failing and change it is a must in a manager as well as the bravery to admit you made a mistake. Rodgers has shown this against Chelsea and Wigan! The next desirable attribute is not to fall into the same trap!

I like hendo, excellent professional, willing to learn and decent technique hampered by an unfortunate price tag

  • Jim H says:

Well & truly in the ‘hell yeah’ camp, me. There’ll be plenty who disagree with me, but if we get a period of calm sustainability, as it looks like we’re heading toward, & we finish in the top 10, that’ll be fine. Of course, the higher up the better, but we need to be careful about the CL.. but I reckon we’re realistically a long way behind the top 4 at the moment (& I don’t mean the position in the League table, but the Club generally).

Regarding Enriqué, he was carrying a knee injury earlier in the season, but yes, he was brilliant on Saturday. He could be the next Gareth Bale. Regarding Suso, I reckon it was a brilliant substitution alright, & what’s more, it wouldn’t have bothered me if Gerrard had been taken off for Henderson. I don’t think much would have changed with the result.

Jordan Henderson is a very good player when you ask him to play to his strengths, which are his fitness, engine, recycling possession & getting box-to-box. Rodgers rates him, & said as much on Saturday. As for people who don’t want to back Rodgers, they’re pissing into the wind; & we all know where that gets you!

Nice one Tim, gave it an RT

    • vickers says:

total idiot . Enrique thenext Bale lol lol lol lol . Henderson great player ha ha ha . Heading for top 10 finish is ok g
P#SS OFF and support someone else you braindead donkey

  • bob says:

you deliberately write these silly articles with the intention to provoke responses from fans like me , knowing that your moronic attitude will provoke a reaction . you obviously get some narcisistic kick out of ‘debating’ with people

i HAVE made my points before and to be honest , i would rather go to the zoo and debate these things with the gorillas . its impossible to debate with someone as closed minded as you .

so ill tell you what , you write whatever nonsense you like , i wont even bother reading them , here are my replies >
    1. dont be stupid tim , we are 11th in the league
    2. tim WE ARE 11th
    3. tim we are 11th , look at the league table
    4. stop talking crap , Allen IS a waste of space
    5. FOR F!#%S SAKE YOU IDIOT WE ARE 11th

    • Tim Williams says:

Since when did engaging in a debate on any subject become narcissism?? Do I write to stimulate debate? Obviously, that’s why I covered both sides of a point (have you read that yet? Clue is in the title)! Do I get a kick out of it? Not sure ‘a kick’ is the right term but I like talking about football and specifically Liverpool, yes. I like to know what other people think about it and how they view it. How boring would life be if everyone agreed. Surely the rich tapestry that is life is improved through our opinions being challenged in a rational and calm manner?

How would you be sure what team the gorillas supported? What if the gorilla didn’t agree with you, would you get equally as angry?

So you are basing your entire argument in the fact we are 11th in the league, on November 21st? Fair enough, your point, not sure where I have said I am happy with the current situation or how you are unable to step back and see a bigger picture, but Nevermind, the question, as always, is:

You have control of LFC right now, what do you do?

If what you propose doesn’t work out after 10 games, what then?

    • Tim Williams says:

Also Bob, I would love for you to expand your comments on how exactly we should match Chelsea’s standards!! Fascinating

  • Stephen says:

What manager could we have reasonable hired that would of provided us better results with the players we got?

    • fotheringham says:

Are you stupid ? Anybody , any half-wit would have LFC higher than where we are

      • Tim Williams says:

Here is a crazy suggestion, instead of a 1 sentence put down, bak yourself up…

        Who would you have had?
How many games would you have allowed?
Why precisely do you think Rodgers is wrong for the job?
What exactly has Rodgers done wrong that doesn’t even warrant the illustrious title of ‘half-wit’?

      • Stephen says:

fotheringham? what possible more could Rodgers, or any half wit you allude to could of possible done to improve the results?

Where do you think Rodgers has been playing the wrong players each week, do you actually believe that our starting leftback should be Stewart downing? That Joe Cole on the bench & not starting each week is a bad idea?

I agree that Downing probable has played more then I would like, he has to rotate the squad, and I’m only disappointed that Joe Cole got a second start, but nothing wrong with giving him 1 chance to prove your an idoit. Its not like he’s got the second coming of Messi sitting on the bench un-used.

        • fotheringham says:

you talk like an ignorant half wit
” what more could rodgers have done ? ” are u really this stupid ? we are liverpool , NOW look at the league table moron

    • Tim Williams says:

With the players we have, thin squad and need to blood youngsters, whilst our current league standing is not acceptable, given some of the performances and results added with factors out of Rodgers control (dodgy decisions, poor finishing etc) I find the absolute pessimism in Rodgers incredible.

      • simon says:

Most fans will find your optimism annoying and stupid

        • Tim Williams says:

You have polled all Liverpool fans have you? Wow must have taken some time! Did you go door to door? Cold call?

Presumably those that don’t find optimism annoying and stupid will feel the same about pessimism?

  • Jack The Lad says:

Another top class article Tim with a bit of humour added in. I have to say I’m also in the ‘Hell Yeah’s’ bracket. Anyone who has ever worked in a management position will know time is certainly required to implement their ideas. In the league an unbeaten run of seven games is improvement whether people like to admit it or not. When we strengthen in Jan it can only improve our position further.

    • Jack The Lad says:

Also, most people only look at the position rather than the fact that we are only 8 points off 4th in Nov after starting the league with a new manager that clearly needed time to gel and is improving. Not to mention the difficult games (City, Arsenal, Manure, Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, and West Brom who are in 4th) that we played already.

      • Tim Williams says:

        Cheers lad!

In the grand history of our illustrious club our current situation is frankly awful, but in terms of the last few seasons and the hell the club has been through it is unfortunately realistic, it takes time to rebuild foundations and confidence, and form will walk hand in hand with this. The 7 games unbeaten is an important step, especially considering the games in which we have gone behind as the end of last season always saw the side crumble whenever we conceded, the QPR game the primary example of this!

        Patience is an absolute must

        • Tim Williams says:

Love constructive criticism! Is BOLLOX a mixture of bollocks and Botox? A medical procedure to allow a smoother finish in a historically wrinkly area?

  • jimmy says:

Credit Rodgers ? You people are clowns ! Rodgers deserves to be sacked . All you do is make excuses for bad results “dodgy decisions ” – “poor finishing ” – ” tough fixtures ” . You are a disgrace to Liverpool FC – Liverpool FC is about winning , being successful – not making pathetic excuses !

    • Tim Williams says:

Wow, some response there. If you read the article it’s purpose is to spark debate by providing an issue and giving two sides, it’s not a right or wrong answer and purely because somebody has an opinion different to yours does not make them ‘a disgrace to Liverpool’ sheesh.

Now to attempt to return to an mature debate. You make it clear you are not a Rodgers fan, please expand, in fact to start with here are some starter questions to help….

      1. You claim ‘dodgy decisions’ are an excuse, fine, but how can Rodgers influence these?
      2. Who replaces Rodgers at this point in time? How long are they given?
      3. Given the end to last season, the transfer window and so forth, what was your reasonable expectation at this point?
      4. Do you think Rodgers deserves credit for positively affecting the last 2 games in play or to be questioned as to the need to change during play? Why?

      • simon says:

Not aimed at me , but ill answer them
1 Every team gets bad decisions , stop crying . that really is stupid excuse
2 Any decent exp manager , how long ? stupid question as depends on how he does
3 LFC should ALWAYS be at least top 4 , any lower is not accepted
4 No stupid question . he messed up in first place with stupid formation + player selection + even a total loser will beat wigan at home with the players we have

        • Tim Williams says:

Please do, open questions to anyone, good part of a healthy debate!

          1. Wasn’t crying nor excusing, merely asking why Rodgers should be treated differently to other managers who as you say also get bad decisions. Surely these factors need to be taken I to account? Not just for Rodgers but all managers?

          2. Such as? Not a stupid question at all, you have judged Rodgers after 10 odd games, what if the guy you bring has a similar record? Fire him? And so on? How on earth is that productive and conducive to the team moving forward?

          3. I agree with you entirely, but Liverpools current position is in no way entirely Rodgers fault, love him or loath him you must see that?

          4. Again not a stupid question. No manager is perfect, they will all make mistakes, and to separate the wheat from the chaff is the ability to identify said mistake and positively change it! A certain spaniard made a monumental error in Istanbul but positively changed it. The exact quality we want in a manager no?

  • simon says:

I cant believe you defend this loser
won 3 against reading wigan and norwich LOL
    drew 6
    lost 3
any other ‘big’ vlub and he will be sack
or because of FSG – are we not big club no more ?
I agree with jimmy – its a disgrace and so are those who back a useless man

    • Tim Williams says:

I’m not defending anyone, merely raising a counter argument. Arsenal have also lost 3, including to Norwich who you LOL’d at! Our defeats came to top5 sides. Draws have been the area which have held us back, not a unique phenomenon to this season either.

Norwich also beat united at home! Belittling clubs is very arrogant and counter productive. As is making such comments against fellow fans

  • Mac says:

credit ? for what ? being midtable ? being the worst pool manager is recent history ? is it serious article ?

    • Tim Williams says:

Have you read he article? Does it ask for credit for league position? Please read it first and then comment, making sure hat if you do raise a point you support it

  • Chan says:

Tim, in this article you did present a for and against factors on BR. However your love and support for this sorry excuse of a LFC manager is well known. We are sitting 11th now. West Brom with a new manager in SC, our ex asst. gaffer with no managerial experince at the top flight is sitting 4th. And SC does not go on and on about his “philosophy”.

BR represents that is all wrong with us right now, acceptance of our status of also rans right from the owners downwards. This is the same bloke who said its OK for us to finished 8th this season.

So Tim if you want my feedback, the answer is a BIG NO for BR. Like the rest of the readers, i do not understand why you deemed it relevant to write this article to compare. BR and to a certain extent FSG is totally the opposite of what LFC had always stood for, the aim for excellence and to compete with the best

    • Tim Williams says:

my love and support? not quite sure where I have displayed that! what I have tried to show, increasingly in recent weeks, is a rational view of how I perceive the reality for the club at the moment. I think Rodgers needs patience yes, but of course the jury is out, managers need to earn respect of course, but to judge in Novemeber is ludicrous.

Steve Clarke is doing a wonderful job and well done to him. The reality of the situation is that Clarke took over a West Brom side left in a very healthy condition by Hodgson. There are no real expectations at the club so the pressure is off, they had performed well under Hodgson so were able to carry confidence and form over, combined with a couple of decent signigns Clarke has been able to continue, very very different situation for Rodgers! in fact this subject matter might well be article material1 challenge accpeted!

The aim of the article, Chan, is to compare both sides to an argument as surprisingly enough there are one or two that dont agree with you!

      • Chan says:

Tim, like i said so many times before, FSG is content to bring our club to a new level of mediocority and BR’s appointment is just a step towards that.

Much had been said about FSG wiping out our debt but to FSG doing that seems to be the highlight of their reign. Much of their strategy to bring us to the top of the league seems to be centre on UEFA FFP which is very naive of them to say the least. They think suddenly every club would stop spending and voila we would be back in the game. My point is if FSG is at their limits in terms of spending power, let someone else who can do a better job own the club. I know your next question is who but seriously Tim, a club of our stature and you are afraid no capable billionaire would step forward?

They did gave 100 mill to KD to blew it away but in the first place who decided to appoint an egoistical has been whose notable success was more than a decade and a half ago?

Back to BR, on what basis did FSG deem he was good enough to be our gaffer? This man has no notable acheivement of any sort as a player or manager and whatever leagy he left behind at Swansea was inherited, from the Wigan manager! He has only 1 season of top flight experience prior to coming to LFC and his most notable accomplishments is to write 180 page dossiers and over use of the word philosophy. On his use of youth af LFC he was forced to not because he wants to. Oh and he inherited those youth from the freshly minted CFC manager.

Tim the point of all this debate is we know this appointment is a disaster from the beginning much like RH. Are we surprise that we are now lying 11th below teams such as West Brom, Everton and BR’s old team, Swansea? Many included myself are not. We had a window of opportunity in reappointing Rafa but FSG blew that too and trust me, we would regret not doing so.

If BR is a dissater waiting to happen why wait to sack the man who says is alright for LFC, 18 times League Champion and 5 times European Champion to finish 8th? 8th that is his aim this season! Did we wait that long for RH? Why Tim?

    • vickers says:

      well said chan

  • Jack The Lad says:

Jez! This website sure does attract an awful lot of childish name calling impatient ‘people’ who mouth off with no back up to their opinions.

    • vickers says:

Like yourself so ! Your from the braindead section whose only thoughts are stupid stupid excuses ( see your post above ) , or pleading for ‘patience’ . patience and excuses are for losers . There is no way you are even from Liverpool with those childish attitudes

      • Tim Williams says:

Vickers you are really covering yourself in glory with some of your responses! well done

      • Jack The Lad says:

        @ Vickers.
‘There is no way you are even from Liverpool with those childish attitudes’
        Ooooohhh the irony! LOL!!

        • simon says:

Wow , you can quote . well done

        • Tim Williams says:

Simon, perhaps check out Jack’s previous response! Regardless of whether I agree with him or not, he has an opinion and has supported it. Why dont you nail your flag into the ground, provide your reasoning and stand by what you believe?

curiously enough the world is made up of different opinions, lets hear yours

  • ClaireR says:

I believe BR is a very luck manager this season , He has had a host of excellent youth to choose from ,that no other LFC manager has had .
Also a top world class striker bang on form to drag us into mid table , something King Kenny didnt have .
Credit to BR ? None sorry . And when i see teams like Chelsea sacking theirs or Spurs last season , it amazes me we havent sacked Brendan

    • Tim Williams says:

having excellent youth yes, but playing them and showing confidence in them in big games (bringing Suso on against United)is not luck. the easy way out would be to play senior pro’s like downing and cole ahead of the younger players no?

Dont get me wrong, I love Kenny and didnt want him sacked but your point makes no sense, didnt Kenny sign Suarez? unless you dont think he was world class under Kenny, and became world class under Rodgers so in a round a bout way are praising Rodgers?? 😉

Did Chelsea sack Di Matteo purely for performances? not the fact that he was never RA’s choice and forced his hand by winning the CL.

Did Spurs actually sack Redknapp for finishing 4th? would you not think that was a minimum target? or was his sacking something bigger and non football related?

      • bob says:

just been to have a chat with them gorillas at chester zoo ,and i have found their points more knowledgeable and interesting than yours

ill stick to debating with them ,its less of a waste of time than reading your predictable inane nonsense

ps . they think rodgers is hopeless too

        • Tim Williams says:

did you bribe them with bananas Bob? come on be honest! Them darn gorillas will say anthing for a banana!

here is a question, what if the gorilla’s had disagreed with you? would you have chatted to the elephants or lions? I have a vision of you walking round Chester Zoo wearing a ‘I hate Rodgers and FSG’ sandwich board looking desperately for someone to agree with you so oyu can have a chat!

The whole point of a debate is that, to debate! If you think my points are ‘inane’, ‘predictable’ and ‘nonsense’ tell me why! convert me!

  • stevieG says:

Rodgers must be sacked BEFORE january , all his signings are flops and he cant be trusted with more money . No manager deservexcredit for beatin Wigan at home . He has tried but he HAS failed miserably

    • Tim Williams says:

Should AVB be sacked as Wigan beat them at WHL?
Wenger? Ferguson? Pardew? Wigan beat all of them!

and hey Fergie and Wenger also lost to Norwich, they must go!

  • dave tovey says:

Both are valid points he can only work with what he has got. When things are wrong in a gane he changes them which most managers won’t do I would like him to buy in Jan but not drop the youth that have got us where we are at the moment it would be a real blow to their belief in how good they are.. All said and done yes he does deserve praise

  • benji says:

Sack Rodgers pleese , he is worst manager in our history

  • scott huyton says:

Look at the stupid team this fella s picked tonight . assaidi not a liverpool player and cole playing as striker ??? Rodgers is a joke .
Im starting to think hes a man u fan trying tio mess us up – its working

    • Tim Williams says:

We have a small squad, what’s he supposed to do? 4 games in 10 days!!

Nice to see you have given assaidi a chance!

Also think you will find shelvey is the ‘striker’

      • simon says:

Oh come on ! you dont really think Assaidi is a player ? do you ? he is championship level at best

        • Tim Williams says:

and you know this how? are you involved in traiing every day? extensive knowedge of the Dutch league?

The guy has played a handful of games as needs to adapt and settle, how is i possible to make such a judgement so quickly!

I apologise now if you are in fact Mr I Spottalent of 1 Great Scouting Avenue, supremeplayerknowledgeville. sheesh

  • redrum says:

Tim you really are dull . the same stupid articles every week with the same replies . you sympathise and defend FSG , you defend and amazingly even praise our worst manager ever , you defend and amazingly even praise one of the worst players in joe allen , you mindlessly defend and make everything seem wonderful . none of your opinions have any crediblity because of this

    • Tim Williams says:

      Hi redrum,

how are you? thanks for rwading again.

Is this piece a defence of Rodgers? or a positive and negative take on Rodgers followed by my humble opinion. The last piece was about ownership in general without mentioning FSG! Hey I could be wrong, I shall read again, maybe you should try that too!

But hey, you are more than entitled to your opinion, please, bring it in to the conversation, why do you not rate Rodgers, FSG or Allen. Please actually make points rather than one sentence responses!

  • GaryMac says:

More embarrasment for Liverpool FC tonight , drawing at home v a mid-table swiss team and about to exit the europa in group stage . enough is enough surely , Rodgers is beyond incompetent

I would urge all real fans to stand up for our club and DEMAND RODGERS REMOVAL before we sink even lower . if Rodgers was a decent man he would resign

    • simon says:

Yes The time has come for action , those dithering fools at FSG need a kick up the backside

      • Tim Williams says:

what action are you going to take Simon?

what are you hoping to achieve?

        • simon says:

Action i m not sure , ill see what others think at supporters club meeting . petition ? or a boycott of merchandise ? There are many ways to let owners know of discontent . There are many who feel the same . Achieve ? A proper manager of course not this joke

I dont feel the need to share all my reasons exactly . Come on , even a total moron can see the state Rodgers has our club . Every week its worse and nobody’s doing anything to change it .I never thought things could be worse than Hodgson , i was wrong

        • Tim Williams says:

You don’t feel the need to share your opinions? Total cop out that! Be brave, you are entitled to your opinion, I’m not going to try and mug you off if I disagree with you! I write to stimulate debate as I enjoy talking about footie!

          Couple of questions

          1. How are we getting worse?
          2. What manager comes in?
          3. How many games before they are judged?
          4. What if they struggle?
          5. Supporter action is required for the likes of H&G, surely not for now?

    • Tim Williams says:

Challenge for your GaryMac, why do you think Rodgers is incompetent? and make your answer so that it doesnt mention a final score. Up for that challenge?

  • simon says:

yawn …. They have been answered before , I dont know why you are asking ? Anyone can sell all the problems , the managers incompetence is there for all to see . Its getting to the stage now where im really bewildered as to why this guy has ANY support . Its a bit cheeky , but i would have to ask – Are those who still support Rodgers genuine fans ? its not a slag , im seriously contemplating it

    • Tim Williams says:

They haven’t though Simon, despite me asking them numerous times! I ask again, in your mind how is he incompetent??

To question whether those that back the manager, for whatever reason, are genuine fans is absurd. Just because someone’s opinion differs from yours doesn’t mean they support the club less.

For example, rather than being the Rodgers worshiper some think I am, I actually think the club needs stability and a long term plan…..this sounds ominously like an advert for my next piece!!

      • Simon says:

they need stability WITH THE RIGHT MANAGER , stability with the wrong manager is stupid ,and will only bring our club down to newer depths

        • Tim Williams says:

I agree with you there. next questions:

          1. Who is the right manager?
          2. Why is Rodgers not the right manager?

        • Simon says:

‘ WHY IS Rodgers not right manager ‘ ?

stop being silly , are you that blind you have to even ask ????

        • Tim Williams says:

          Stop avoiding the question!

You have stated you don’t rate him and in asking why?

  • Mr Fox says:

as a regular reader but someone who has never commented before , i feel the need to do so now after reading these comments and replies .
im a devout fan for 25 years , live in southport 2 kids , go to 5-10 games a season , ive never felt so low as a LFC fan .

i was not excited or horrified by brendan rodgers appointment , i do like the man and feel he will be a very good coach someday , homever sometimes a face just doesn’t fit . history shows many good managers failing to fit into clubs ( clough at leeds , rafa at inter ) , history shows many good managers not being big enough to manage a big club ( hodgson , gross at spurs , big sam at newcastle ) , i feel rodgers is one of these

we are in danger of losing fans , i offered to take my 9 year old to last nights game , he didn’t want to go , i called him to watch us v chelsea on tv – he wasnt bothered . he is a big fan and really cares but rodgers team and their side passing negative football is putting him off . its sad !

i know fans will berate me for this but i feel its in our best interests to lose the next 2 games . i know its a disgusting thing to feel but i would rather short term pain and rodgers sacked than enduring another year of this . as a result i am not able to watch the game on sun as i could not activly hope they didn’t score etc . its horrible that any fan should want this but i believe it is truly in our best interests to get hammered on sun

mr. henry and co have not shown much leadership or good decision making so far , i pray they will make this change ASAP

    • Tim Williams says:

      Mr Fox,

First of all may I say Thank You to you, you obviously have an opinion on events and the article but more importantly you have supported this and given reasons in a rational manner! (and not called me a Nazi!haha) Absolutely key to a good discussion.

I dont think any fan is happy with the way things stand today, but as a question to you, can this be solely laid at the feet of Rodgers or is it a combination of a number of factors?

      Playing Devils advocate here:

      1. is this not a long term project, turning the preverbial tanker around?
      2. changing manager is very risky and could cause more trouble than its worth?
      3. who could replace?
      4. Could it not be argued that neither Clough at Leeds nor Rafa at Inter were given enough time or support?

I really hope you come back to these as you appear capable of engaging in decent discussion unlike some!

      • Simon says:

very insulting tim , hope you dont mean me

anyway is it a shame that any LFC feels that way ? that he wants us to lose a few games ? it is a shame

he is not the only 1 , 2 guys at work , pool fans , were sayin they hope swans win 6-0 to end rodgers dismal reign

some everton fans were hoping we win the odd game to keep him in a job
WE REALLY ARE A JOKE NOW

        • Tim Williams says:

Haha feel guilty? Take note of Mr Fox, he qualified his opinion! Please do the same!

Of course it is a shame fans feel like that, but I refer you to the questions I asked him…
