Greatness Lost? Under Rodgers It Is…

“TO finish as high as last season (8th place) or better would be a fantastic achievement” – Brendan Rodgers.

When I saw this headline in one of the morning papers I had to pinch myself. That had to be a mistake; a misunderstanding or something else, but not true! But unfortunately it was.

In May King Kenny was sacked due to a not good enough league position, despite winning the League Cup, getting to the FA Cup final, having third best defence in the league and playing some of the best attacking football in the league.

It was hard to take, but at least it showed ambition to move forward up the league.

Surely if you replace a manager you want his successor to improve on his results, not the contrary!

The problem with Rodgers, in my opinion, is that he’s a small team manager not suited to a big club like Liverpool. He doesn’t seem to understand that praising some non-existing ‘domination’ in a three-nil loss, ‘courage’ of a backpass to an opponent, or constant complaining about referees is nonsense at the top level.

A total of three wins against three relegation favourites in the first dozen of games, the same amount of clean sheets, total dependence on one player in attack and a bottom-half place with third of the season gone. And worst of all, the ambition is 8th place. Is there anyone who can help Rodgers with packing?

I know that sacking a manager is always a major shock for the club, but I think that it’s not too late to save the season yet. Rodgers did his best to offload good players and replace them with Swansea calibre types, but LFC is big enough to correct this mistake.

King Kenny spent £35 million (net) to have a big squad that gave him lots of depth and delivered the first trophy in seven years. The football was there, a cup was in the trophy room, but league results weren’t.

Rodgers spent £25 million (net), showed the door to cup-winning players and failed to replace them, constantly complaining about how young and small his squad is, never mind it was Rodgers who made it this way. Poor results, lack of ambition, and constant moaning. The great club is losing its ‘greatness’ and I don’t know why the decision hasn’t been made yet.

I would show the Ulsterman the door, then the club has to ensure the right decision is made; no more experiments with Championship level coaches, please. Give the job to a man who knows the club inside out, won major trophies with it, played under one of the two greatest LFC players ever and has been vice-captain to the other. Jamie Carragher won’t let the greatest club in the world lose its greatness. It’s his flesh and blood.

  • anti muppet says:

I see muppets. stupid Muppets who think we are still in 1988 when we had a magical squad so “if BR isn’t winning, sack him.” Muppets. after Rafa, there was nothing to manage and you slate the manager who had e had us creating chances, playing good football, basically, only short of someone scoring apart from Luis. you are a right bunch of nitwits and you all need to be dunked in holy water.

sorry pal , muppets are in the minority here and you are one of them . most of rodgers supporters here are probably manc fans pretending

    • Gary Mahon says:

idiot idiot idiot . playing good football ? try watching the games , not just highlights . Rodgers is boring the pants off everyone . so yeah , Rodgers is clueless -sack him

and if their is no one to score apart from Suarez – whose fault is that ? mine ? the tea lady ? the fans ? no you muppet – duh , i think it might be > THE MANAGERS FAULT

  • Success takes time says:

You are an idiot.3 seasons in mediocrity and you think we gonna jump back to top 4?real life football is not for u.stick to playstation.

I agreed with a lot of what you said until the final part regarding giving the manager’s job to Jamie Carragher. Seriously? Getting rid of Rodgers is probably going to happen before too long but you can’t say the guy isn’t cut out for one of the biggest clubs and then say that a current player with no experience outside of playing should take over.

I wouldn’t sack Rodgers now, that’s too harsh. I’m incensed with some of his post-match crap and some of the players he’s looking at bringing in but he deserves a full season and the opportunity to turn things around. However, if we get to January and we’re still languishing in mid-table then both he and the board need to have their heads banged together, then ask some serious questions about which direction we’re pulling in.

  • Liverpool 11th in Epl we should never deceive if we take great consideration the matches played for some we can’t say it’s Rodgers mistake .Liverpool played better football it’s was simply a defensive mistake against Mcity loss 2points against Everton loss 2points assist: Ref. bad decision against Mu loss 3points ref.bad decision could been a draw gain 1point .against Swansea the same assit ref who decide he’s precision was better than video loss 2points if we calculate the points loss of the 4 matches played loss 5points from Ref decision only 1of 2points of defensive mistake .we could be among the top with 21 points +2 points against mcity= 23points many teams had the benefit of ref bad decision to be on top so Liverpool isn’t the bad team that many are thinking there must be a philosophy combination between manager and players to bring Liverpool on top
