Would You Cash In On Suarez?

MUCH of the media reporting last week that Manchester City were looking to bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, who is currently the joint top scorer in the Premier League with 8 goals so far; something that was instantly rubbished by both sides.

Suarez has just signed an extension to his existing contract and does not have any desire to leave the Merseyside club.

He seems rather committed to the cause of bringing Liverpool back in the contention of Champions League spot, which Liverpool have missed for past three seasons now.

Rodgers, for his part, reiterated Liverpool’s hard-line stance last weekend. “At this moment in time I’m safe in the knowledge that Luis had the chance to go in the summer,” he said. “There was probably no better time for him to do that with a new manager coming in.

“He could have had an excuse to go, but having spoken to him at length he committed to staying here. He gave us that opportunity to see how it was going to work. It’s up to us as a club to add players that can help support him and move us on.”

Though Suarez has committed himself to Liverpool and the management also understand the importance of keeping him, they are in a position to put a hefty price on their talisman.

Liverpool fans all over the world, including me would be saddened if the Uruguayan left the club for and of their Premier League rivals…but…

In my opinion, and I’m going to get a lot of sticks for it, I think it’d be wise to sell him for around £40-£50 million – especially if it were to include somebody like City’s Dzeko in the deal as well.

Before anyone jumps into any conclusions, let me put in a scenario for you. We all hoped that we would sign Clint Dempsey this summer. FSG however thought his £8 million price tag was too high. This January there is no denying that we need to buy a striker and a winger, but how much Rodgers will be given this time, no one knows.
[ad_pod id=”liverpool-tees” align=”center”]
If FSG do not hand Rodgers a huge transfer kitty, it looks unlikely that we will acquire any player who can compete with the players clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have. If that happens, then this season will surely be one of the worst in the recent history of Liverpool. In that, case keeping Suarez would not make any difference as it’s been the story this season that slowly, Liverpool are evolving into a one man show, much like Arsenal last season.

If we could sell Suarez for £40-£50m plus someone like Dzeko, then it would mean that the striker problem would be solved and all the money can be spent on bringing new players. With that kind of money in hand we can probably bid for players like Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, who hasn’t made many starts this season himself. That however would have its drawbacks as they would need time to settle down in a new team and under new coach.

Just as much I love Suarez, I however understand that he cannot help Liverpool to a top four finish alone, and to do that, Liverpool need to strengthen their squad. Currently the squad does not have the depth to compete with the top clubs in any way. If FSG is willing to part with the cash to bring in the new players – quality players however much they may cost – then keeping Suarez is what the club need to do. However if FSG is not willing to part with the cash then it’d be a wise move for Rodgers and Liverpool to part ways with Suarez and use the money to strengthen other areas in the squad.

Rather have Falcao for that amount money! no doubt he’s a good player but too much baggage

  • Bomber25 says:

The manager has said Suarez is going nowhere. The player himself has said he is happy at Liverpool FC. For the umpteenth time Suarez is going nowhere. Now drop this nonsense and lets move on.

  • stah says:

would you shoot yourself in the foot if you had a gun.
Suarez is irreplacable. Rodgers would be gone by now without our great striker who every team wants but can’t get thats why they kick up a fuss they are scared of him, and who could blame them, he is frighteningly good. when we get the cash for Carroll and Texiera starts working his magic £1 million he cost and he is worth 15 million at least.

    • Dave says:

As a M.City fan there is no denying he is a special player. But to suggest a fuss is kicked up because of fear is ridiculous. No controversy surrounds Messi of any real sort yet he really is a player to fear

    • Gripper says:

rodgers has already shot himself by leaving the squad short of strikers , he could do it again

  • Wilson Matilda says:

Well said bomber. What’s the point in even talking about this crap. Going into the transfer market with the money would be a big mistake

    • sleeps with angels says:

The bell-end who said”and i know i will get stick for this but i would sell for 40 or 50 mill” you are a first class tool ! and you deserve all the stick you get,we do have some clowns as so called fans.

  • J757 says:

Getting Dzeko will not attract players like having Suarez! Suarez is worth more to the club as a player then a transfer figure!

  • MrC says:

FSG are trying to get players that are worth the money. They didn’t think £8 Million was too much, they thought £8 million was too much for Dempsey.

  • Dan says:

Liverpool shuld leave suarez nd sell d likes of handerson, downing, reina. The money realised shuld b 4 restrengthenin d squad

  • joe says:

not just saying this because im a liverpool fan but what other striker in the world can do what suarez does? no point in replacing him with a “goalscorer” because without him we would make a third of the chances that we do. his record doesnt lie either scored a load in holland and has nearly a goal every 2 games for us so people need to stop banging on about him not being a finisher

  • Jack The Lad says:

What a complete and utter load of shocking junk!!! If other clubs like Newcastle, Everton and West Ham can afford four strikers. Then there is no excuse as to why Liverpool can’t afford a very decent third. This is the worst article I’ve read on Liverpool in years. Cop on or Get lost!!

  • Mikey says:

    1) I never hoped we would sign Clint Dempsey.

    2) Suarez is going nowhere, he does things other players cannot do, to lose him would set us back so badly. Cannot believe some people actually want this to happen.

    Call yourself fans!?

    • Gripper says:

any fan who wants us to sell suarez is not a liverpool fan

      • Reghan says:

Exactly, we should get rid of Downing, Henderson, Borini and JOE COLE and replace Doni and Jones with Tim Krul or Asmir Begovic. Bring back Andy Carroll. I can’t understand why he wasn’t given his chance by Rodgers. He can’t score unless he is provided with adequate service upfront
Truth be told I’d rather get rid of Rodgers than Suarez.

        • fotheringham says:

very true . getting rid of rodgers is the only way to insure our top players will want to stay

          we need a top manager

      • Reghan says:

Let alone selling Suarez. £50m is not at all enough. If it were up to me anyone wishing to buy Suarez will need to cough up a billion pounds or get lost

  • Neverthless says:

I think it would be a big mistake, as most of Liverpool goals are come from him. No suarez = 20th finish.

  • Robbo says:

As a city fan i think the last thing you should ve doing is selling world class players to ‘strengthen the squad’. That just tends to be buying mediocre players. Keep him and add to it is your only way forward

  • Mike says:

Of course it would be wise to accept an exorbitant offer for your pantomime villian, thanks but no thanks.

50m are you serious? Dzeko has a better goals per minute ratio than Suarez by a country mile. Any part exchange would involve Liverpool paying City rather than the other way around as some deluded Liverpool fans think.

Also Aguero cost £35m at 23 years of age. Are Liverpool fans suggesting their 25 year old Suarez is a/ a better player b/ more valuable and c/ more productive than Sergio Aguero? Hilarious

Hope you beat United but please drop the diving cheating and feigning injury when you play us – is that how desperate things have become?

    • Dan says:

Whats aguero doin this season?? Not a lot i would have suarez over any striker in the epl he offers a lot more man city have jus bought success they will never ever be a big club like liverpool and man utd

      • Dave says:

Im afraid size of club is largely defined by success. If history mattered that much then Forrest would be top 3 or 4 clubs in the country. Irrelevant to how we get to where we have, if a big player comes on the market he will likely choose our club over yours as it stands, even if you can offer the same wage. As for Aguero he has only returned from injury in recent weeks and has already scored 3 games in a row, he is top class

      • Mike says:

        Aguero This season:

Aguero 9 starts this season, 6 goals

        Suarez 15 starts, 13 goals

        Last season:

        Aguero 48 appearances, 30 goals, 12 assists

        Suarez 39 appearances, 17 goals, 10 assists

Just out of interest, when was your last team that played for free? Just another jealous hypocrite.

    • sleeps with angels says:

Mike i know 50 years of being shite as clouded your judgement of a good player, but you really are a first class bell-end if you think Dzeko is a
better player than louis, and suarez is better than Aguero,as rodgers said we wouldnt swap him for any other player in the world and that means
      messi also!

      • Dave says:

Oh well if Rodgers says so then it must be true. I understand he is your 1 shining light at the moment but just because hes on good form lets not even pretend to suggest that he is anywhere near the phenomenon that is Lionel Messi. Plus lets see whos scored more at the end of the season between aguero and Suarez

  • Barry Bull says:

Suarez is unique. He is key to us being successful in Europe. No defender would want to face him.

He is not the player to sell to strengthen the squad… Downing, Carroll and Cole are, and there will be funds provided on top of their sale. All in we could be looking at a budget of at least £35m for attackers. If we can get Huntelaar on the cheap, that leaves a lot of poke for another player.

The rest of our squad are doing well apart from perhaps, Reina. We have options in defence and midfield, so all focus in the window, for the first team, should be on attackers.

  • Denis says:

Suarez will not be sold, the owners need to back B Rodgers heavily with £65M to bring in 5 class, quality attacking players of same calibre as Gerrard and Suarez. Whilst Downing and Cole need to be shipped out in January.

1 and 2 are two Brazilians: Two Brazilians playing for Shakhtar Donesk: L Adriano (25) FD and Willian(24) RW/RWF both of these players should be brought to club for combined total of £40M. Adriano for £14-£16M and Willian for £22-£24M. 3 and 4: These are two Spanish Players: Two players from Athletico Bilbao: I Munian(19) AM and F Llorente(27)both should be brought to club for combined total of £25M. Munian for £14-£17M and Llorente for £5-£8M and Lastly B Arfa(25) LW / LWF of Newcastle should be brought to club in SWAP deal with A Carroll and £10M. And these players would bring more class, quality, goals, excitement and entertainment to squad. And these players would get our club back from top 7-18 side we have been over last three seasons, back to a top 1-5 side in premiership. And those players would get club back in champions league and those five players are of champions league quality. And these five players would cost less than what K Dalglish spent on Adams, Carroll, Henderson and Downing last season ago. (£80M)

    • Pablo says:

      Seriously?
Need to give your football manager a rest mate.
      Fernando Llorente for £5-8m?
      Genius.

      • Denis says:

Llorente is a free agent in the summer and has refused to sign a contract and at the start of season was forced to train with the youth team and reserves for some months and only recently he has been put back into first team here and there. So yeah, we could buy Llorente for £5-£8m in January or get him on pre contract so in summer we get him on a free as he is free agent in summer.

    • simon says:

ha ha .. we have a amateur comedian on site

      • Denis says:

what comedian are you waffling about? Yourself simon? Last season King Kenny wasted £80M on four average British players who we will struggle to get half back from the sales of them. But if the owners back B Rodgers well in January.

And Rodgers can ship out J Cole and S Downing and he is not a fan of A Carroll, so he should swap A Carroll with B Arfa(25) of Newcastle and £10M and then bring in 4 other attacking players for £65M.

Two Brazilians from Shakhtar Donesk: L Adriano (25) FD and Willian (24) RW /RWF both should both be brought for a combined total of £40m

And Two spanish players from Athletico Bilbao: I Munian (19)AM and F Llorente(27) FD both of these players should be brought for combined total of £25M

So thats £65 for these five attacking players: Yet Adams, Carroll, Downing and Henderson cost our club £80M last season.

So thats 5 world class players on par with Gerrard and Torres.

And with those players we would get back into top 4 and back in Champions League and we could have side capable of competing with any team in europe with these five attacking players at club.

This could be the starting line up with those players brought to club:COMPETING AND CHALLENGING ANYONE IN EUROPE:

        Reina GK
Johnson RB Skrtel RCB Agger LCB Enrique LB

        LUCAS DM GERRARD CM

        MUNIAN AM
WILLIAN RWF ADRIANO FD SUAREZ LWF

        Subs/squad: Allen, Arfa, Assaidi,Borini,Coates, Henderson,Jones, Llorente,Robinson, Sahin, Shelvey,Sterling,Suso, Wisdom.

        • fotheringham says:

sounds great but it is fantasy for 4 reasons

1 . a lot of those players wont want to come to liverpool because we are crap now
2 . FSG wont pay out that kind of money
3 . FSG wont pay out the kind of wages required for those players
4 . those players are not suited to rodgers tippy tappy crap style of football

but hey … i would rather you as manager than rodgers

        • bob says:

drop allen and assaidi , and you can have the managers job

  • Dene says:

No way he’s going, need to build around this kind of player not cash in on them. He’s never going to be everyone’s cup of tea because he’s a nightmare for any team to play against…he uses every trick he can to gain an advantage for his team because he hates to lose….he reminds me of Cantona without the arrogance…and I hated that tw*t, but you had to respect the player he was.

  • Gripper says:

sell Allen , Carroll permanently , and dump Sahin back to madrid , oh and Borini , and beg someone to take Joe Cole

    …then spend spend spend

    • Denis says:

Allen is descent but when LUCAS is back, I think Allen shot should be on bench and it should be Lucas and Gerrard in CM and hopefully the owners back B Rodgers heavily with £65-£70M to bring in 5 attacking players in of Gerrard and Suarez’s calibre. And A Carroll should be swapped with B Arfa of Newcastle and £10M and four other attacking players should be brought to club for £65M. Two Brazilians and two spanish players.

  • Steven says:

There is no way I would sell Suarez! Just look at selling Torres brought in! Carrol for 35 as a replacement! Huge waste of money!

  • simon says:

of course we shouldn’t sell Suarez .. Thats Stupid !
but … if the greedy yanks are offered enough dollars , then its bye bye Luis

  • Red says:

LFC should sell Suarez if Man City willing to pay 40m + Dzeko or Balotelli. Ask 40m from FSG, then use 80m cash for 2 strikers and 1 midfield (as S. Gerrard replacement).
