Questions for Reds

WE are in the midst of one of the busiest footballing periods in the English calendar and fast approaching yet another transfer window in which we will undoubtedly be swamped by ‘in-the-knows’.

Signing/not signing the next best thing/overrated money grabber and having tense behind closed doors talks trying to fend off Spurs for this player and that.

Let us not forget that it is the season of good will to all (wo)men and we should be jingling our bells, decking our halls and smooching under the mistletoe. There will be enough opportunity to praise/slam/cry/rage over our club in the coming weeks so with every festive bone in my jolly body I’m going to try something a bit light hearted. I’m going to pose myself a series of questions and hope that if you read this, you pick one or more to answer as well (I’ve even included hashtags, you know being modern and cool and that) so we can have some nice football chats and avoid risking the wrath of Santa with arguments! Let’s ho ho ho….

Which current PL player would you have at LFC? #current

We are crying out for goals, goals, goals so a RVP or Hernandez from those who shall not be named is tempting, as is a Mata or a Ben Arfa, but I will plumb from the chap who should have been a Red for years, Mr Aguero. Skill, pace and can finish! Imagine him with Suarez!

Which past PL non-LFC player would you have at LFC? #past

Tempting to go with Shearer for his goals, Pearce for his passion or Henry for his sheer untouchable class, but as its Christmas and the Sherry is flowing, so how about Le Tissier? Imagine Le Tiss strutting his stuff at Anfield, that sublime skill and outrageous talent entertaining the Kop.

What current player who has never played PL would you have at LFC? #abroad

The easy answer is Messi. Come to think of it, anyone in that Barcelona team so I won’t take that path. Continuing in a similar Le Tiss vein, Mr. Ibrahimovic for me. For those who slate him for not performing against English clubs in the past is very short sighted, the guy is sublime and a character; again imagine him with Suarez!

Which former Red would you Delorean back in time to improve our team now? #legend

Hmmmmmmmmm so so tough. For me, at this moment in time it would have to be Rushie. I feel I am betraying my hero, Digger, and the King with my choice, but this team is desperate for a consistent, deadly finisher and has there been anyone better?

What fixture do you look forward to most in a season? #opposition

Has to be Everton. United comes a close second but there is nothing better than a Merseryside derby for passion, for emotion, for drama and for that feeling when you win.

Which non-LFC goal have you cheered the most? #guiltypleasure

Easy for me, Sergio Aguero for City against QPR. My Dad is a City fan and couldn’t make the game or catch it on the box so I commentated for him down the phone and got caught up in the occasion. What drama, what a finish and what a look on Fergie’s face!

What is the best opposing player performance you have seen against the Reds? #MOM

Think back a few years to that Valencia team under Benitez that taught us a footballing lesson. Those games at the Mestalla and Anfield one player was head and shoulders above the rest (figuratively obviously), Mr Pablo Aimar. I longed for him to ply his trade at Anfield but it was never to be sadly.

What is the best goal you have seen scored against the Reds? #bittersweet

To be fair I hate every single goal we concede and to answer this I have to truly step back and remove the blinkers. Through gritted teeth that Michael Thomas goal was special, but I won’t pick that for the pain it caused! Instead I will go with Faustino Asprilla in the 4-3 back in 1996. This game remains the best I have ever seen with my own eyes and a finish that just had to be applauded.

Have you ever met a past or present LFC star? #hero

Yes, a number actually. My favourite moment was playing in a match against Digger. John Barnes is my hero and in a 1-on-1 situation I dispossessed him before striding away and slamming home a right footed shot. Unbelievable feeling. Minutes later a similar scenario presented itself and I thought ‘got him again’, the result? He ‘megged me! Again, what a feeling!! The end of the game saw the great man come over, man-shake, and say the line I think of before I sleep at night ‘well played Tim lad’. Is it wrong I am tingling even now??

After my last answer, I’m not sure I can think of anything else!! I love that man, oh for him to be playing now, how good would he be? Anyway I digress, I really hope this is taken in the fun, light-hearted vein it was meant and I really, really hope you join in on here or on Twitter. Answer my questions or pose your own, it would be great to chat with other Reds. One of the greatest things about the sport is the opportunity to discuss those small things that make it all worthwhile. It’s important to remember how good and how fun the game can be.

I’m on twitter @timdibs come find me and lets chat

    Made me think…

    1. Van Persie (Goals)
    2. Viera (Would dominate and protect back 4)
    3. Pirlo (Class)
    4. Barnes (Goals, assists and plays the beautiful game)
    5. Man U (pips Everton)
    6. Aguero vs QPR too
    7. Scholes (I forget which specific game though)
    8. Cantona goal in Cup Final through about a million bodies. Shouldn’t have been possible.
    9. I doubt many could better your story of playing against Digger. I feel like I meet them every time we play. I certainly have one way conversations with them – usually involving me shouting some obscenity or other in frustration.

  • RKDFC says:

    1. Van Persie
    2. Paul Gascoigne ( outstanding talent when in his prime )
    3. Have to agree ( Messi )
    4. Johnny Barnes for his silky skills creating and scoring goals
    5. Man U
    6. Yes has to be Aguero given the opposition and timing of the goal and the importance of the game
    7. Henry in April 2004 when he scored a hatrick at Highbury.
    8. His 3rd goal in that same game was brilliant, great dribble and a cool finish.
    9. I have met a lot of the past players and managers. Remember having my picture taken with Ray Clemence in the car park at Anfield when I was about 10. I also had several trials for Liverpool at Melwood when I was 14 and it was filmed by the BBC for a programme called Stopwatch in 1981. It made me famous in school for a few weeks because I was interviewed at the end of the game. We were given a team talk by Steve Highway and David Fairclough in the dressing room before the game to steady our nerves.
However the thing that stands out above any other was shaking hands with the great Bill Shankley again in the car park a few days before he passed away. I think it was following Steve Highway’ s testimonial but can’t be 100% sure as I was only a kid.

Shouldn’t say it but a top form Torres with Suarez would be class! Agree Henry was unplayable at times! Only one is Messi! John Barnes supplying Suarez when he was in prime 87-88. Everton Man utd get great satisfaction if we win either!! Aguero or Drogba at anfield from stevie g backpass! Rivaldo for Barca at Anfield we couldn’t get near him! Believe Fowler asked can we have a kick of your ball!! Best goal v reds Crespo purely for weight of through ball! Met Stevie G in David Lloyd Kirkby!

I’m assuming I can be both Sineistic and realistic. I would love to have Baines for
his flank exploiting abilities and a freekicks, Sine loves his sideburns too. I’m hating
the fact we missed out on the likes of Dempsey or Dembele for the sheer fact that
they would improve the depth and add to the attacking quality.
Being Sineistic – you know it goes Mata, Agúero, Torres (yes), Verthongen – the list
could go on and on. Pity they would be realistic transfer few years ago and now…
    Well – dream on babes.

I would love to have Rooney as well. And practice football shots to the face all day long.
Which past PL non-LFC player would you have at LFC? #past
Shearer & Henry at their prime. Add Overmars + Bergkamp. We would be unstoppable
and not only for one season.
What current player who has never played PL would you have at LFC? #abroad
Messi is too obvious. And too easy. I’m not saying I don’t like Barca but it’s… too
predictable at times, and that is boring. Falcao for me. Pure, magical, devastating,
    striking force. Me likey.
Which former Red would you Delorean back in time to improve our team now? #legend
Which one you wouldn’t? Rushie, Fowler, Stevie Heighway on the wing. And the King
masterminding the plot. Pity we can’t reincarnate as well. I’d die a thousand times
to see Shankly and Paisley together at Anfield.
What fixture do you look forward to most in a season? #opposition
United and Everton. Everton is a derby, thrashing United is defeating the enemy.
I also like the Cup fixtures to some Non-hampton extent.

Which non-LFC goal have you cheered the most? #guiltypleasure
Lately. All Ibra’s goals against England in the friendly. Quite a daring thing to do at a pub full of Brits.
I don’t seem to have the all time classic but the one I would probably go for is lost
somewhere in the 70s and 80s.
What is the best opposing player performance you have seen against the Reds? #MOM
    Maldini. 2005.
What is the best goal you have seen scored against the Reds? #bittersweet
    Has to be Riise. #winkwink
Have you ever met a past or present LFC star? #hero
I did meet Glen Johnson, quick chat at the docks. It was me birthday I couldn’t
    give him more time.

It will probably format it diabolically.

    Haste is haste. YNWA
