Coutinho of Inter MilanACCORDING to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool FC have stepped up their efforts to land Brazilian starlet Philippe Coutinho from Inter Milan. The Reds reportedly had a bid of €6 million turned down by the Italian giants over the weekend but remain confident of landing the attacking midfielder before the window closes.

Coutinho, who was hailed by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez as the future of Inter during his time in charge at the San Siro, is a versatile attacking midfielder who can also play across the front three. Blessed with a good turn of pace, Coutinho possesses plenty of skill, has great dribbling ability and is strong off either foot.

Inter Milan are said to be ready to let Coutinho go, in a bid to ease the financial burden on the cash strapped club, and the Reds are confident that a deal for the Brazilian can be struck sooner rather than later.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to make Coutinho his second signing of the January transfer window after the Reds welcomed Daniel Sturridge into the Anfield fold a fortnight ago. Reports have surfaced today that Liverpool have made a second bid of €8 million which has been accepted by the Milanese club, these remain unconfirmed at this stage.

Should Coutinho move to Liverpool, that may not signal the end of the Reds January spending, with the Echo confirming the Rodgers is still very interested in taking Tom Ince back to Anfield. With Blackpool still playing hardball over the transfer fee however, the Reds may be forced to wait until the summer to re-sign their former player.

probably another Lucas who will take time to get used to premier league . Sneijder would have been better

  • pete turley says:

patience friend.ive seen this lad play, and believe me he can play.i would take him over sneijder any day.

    • tommy says:

yes pete , i agree , and i genuinely think liverpool was more interested in this lad than sneijder , ive only clocked bits of him on internet of him and from this i can see he’s the business , he’ll torment opponents too , excited hope we get him ,

  • Mikael says:

What about Alonso?? There was a lot of talk about him recently, but when Sneijder came on the scene all went quiet. Alonso any day – he’s Liverpool through and through with a wealth of experience which is missing in our current side. Alonso is the missing link……..ask any LFC fan.

    • Matt says:

I agree I would take Alonso any day but he and Continho are totally different players. I hope we land him as I believe he will be a master class one day. He will need time settle, I would give him at least a couple of years before we see the best of him. A promising young prospect.

      • stevieG says:

Couple of years ? FFS – u want to give everyone a couple of years . If he is not ready for premier league then he should feck off to Wigan on loan until he is

We dont need another ‘one day he will be great’ . This is Liverpool not a training club for kiddies to learn at

        • Ozred says:

Agreed. How far can u go with signing babies before you become a crache. Weve got the kids but they need established quality around them if we are going to be challenging over the next few years.

      • tommy says:

matt , i hope they put him on the park after a few weeks let him do his stuff, he’s advanced playing in spain and italy lets hope he hits the ground running before the the moans and groans start leeking out of our famous kop,, hope the raw him on

LFC needs a world class striker now. Why touching the wrong department again ???? Unless it is attacking midfielder like Sneijder who can score from distance with powerful stamina, I believe this CHEAP midfielder will be another Joe Cole.

If you spend like midtable teams, you will end up at midtable. This is what FSG promise: “We can compete with everyone in transfer market”.

    Are you happy now ????

  • Red all over says:

Liverpool are rebuilding and are 5 years away from the end result.

    • Mic says:

Right on. Everything is going according to plan as far as I’m concerned and anyone who knows you can’t throw a wad of cash around and end up title challengers overnight. No top players are going to want to come to a midtable club without a huge sweetener in the deal. Therefore why buy a huge name that doesn’t have the desire to be here? It’s pointless and a waste of income that can go on these hungry up and comers who will be ready when we are challenging for the title once again in the next couple of years if we continue to progress and shed the dead weight we have under Rodgers. Hell we aren’t miles off fourth spot now and that was with 1 striker and children in the team! Talented children I might add who are going to be absolute world beaters soon.

      • tommy says:

        well said mic

      • red says:

Well well well. You must have insider information. Please update us regarding to your statement “Everything is going according to plan”

What plan are you talking about ??? Cost cutting plan ??? Stadium plan ???? BR tikki takka plan ???? Mega signing plan ???? Or CHEAP players signing plan ???? Pushing LFC into midtable team plan ????

        • Dennis says:

Im with you red . One excellent win and some people think all our problems have disappeared . Coutinho is the cheap option as was Sturridge . Im not saying they arent good – but we could have had a lot better

  • Coutinho enjoyed a very successful loan spell at Espanyol last year, something I kept a keen eye on.

Had 5 goals in 12 games and looked brilliant whenever he played.

The lad has it all, tricks, pace, creativity, perfect signing. Think of Sneijder but younger and Brazilian!

  • Ayomide says:

Will definitely be a great player for us…I’ve been his fan since 2010 when I saw him playin for inter. I can’t wait to have him I?????n????? LFC

  • Wezi says:

Let him come and do the job wth Lucas and Gerald in midfied whle Sturridge, Borin and Suarez occupy the front three. YNWA

  • stevieG says:

The question must be – who is picking the players ?

In the same week that Rodgers said we need more experienced players – he turns down chance to buy sneidjer and then buys 20 year old kid

Dempsey was never Rodgers choice , and ive heard from many sources , including one of this sites writers , that Assaidi was not wanted by Rodgers … so ..

Is Rodgers just the puppet that coaches the squad ?

  • tommy says:

i know one sure thing about rodgers and everybody connected to our great club , everybody on here too , apart from the odd soggy plank =manc and bitter , who pop in , WE ALL WANT OUR TEAM TO BE UP THERE AND IN THE BIG CUP LEAGUE COME MID MAY , AND NEXT SEASON PUTTING THE FEAR INTO ANYBODY WE PLAY AND TO WIN A 19TH TITLE , ITS POSSIBLE AS WE KNOW FROM 2005 FINAL , ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

    • red says:

To win PL with Borini, Sturridge, Allen, Jonjo, Sterling, Downing ???!!! Suarez must dive harder (!) and score 50++ goals by himself.

Wake up now. LFC is going to follow Arsenal trophy-less direction, if FSG does not act now.

      • Dave says:

FSG wont spend big , and probably wont hire decent manager any time soon , so mediocrity here we come

  • simon says:

Word of warning – This guy Coutinho has had a hell of a lot of injury problems for a 20 year old , and has today said he is not interested in leaving Inter . But Inter are trying to get rid

  • Andrew says:

He doesent want to leave Inter and very few South American players do well in England. To convince Inter to sell Liverpool will have to pay between 12 and 15 million which is alot for a so far largely unproven player.

  • Dave says:

Another young talent . Rodgers said experience is what we need . Gerrard said experience is what we need .

So WTF are we signing more youth that will take time to settle in for ?
    FSGs dumb policy rules again

  • fitsum says:

just wach AFC and wach etiopian man adan(19) not big name semetims u will find a good player from anexpectd mach

  • Parker says:

he doesnt want to come here . he said so

  • segun says:

Coutinho my * after missing on sneijder nw coutinho is d replacement for wesley i guess,i bet suarez will be on is way come summer if lfc is nt ready to bring in experience players rather than kids,u use kids 2 win games and u use experience to win championship these are the words of suarez so get it to your heads FSG and Rodgers.

  • Snake Plissken says:

I see us becoming like Arsenal of the last 5 or 6 years, a good passing side with no real genuine threat of winning trophies, the manager & owners are to blame. Truth is we have thrown the towel in as a club, there’s no real urgency to achieve anything or go places. Will we ever win the title again in our lifetime? Not with this lot in charge.
