Wesley Sneijder at Inter MilanLIVERPOOL Football Club are poised to make a move for Dutch International midfielder, Wesley Sneijder – but only if he agrees to take a significant pay cut. According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool boss, Brendan Rodgers is a great admirer of the former World Cup finalist and would love the chance to bring him to Anfield.

Sneijder, who’s certain to leave current club Inter Milan during the January window, has been stalling on accepting an offer from Turkish giants Galatasaray as he is reportedly much keener on a move to the Premier League.

Although Liverpool haven’t made an official bid yet, the Echo reports that the player’s representatives are well aware of the Reds’ interest.

The article goes on to say that Sneijder’s current wage at Inter works out at around £200k per week and that the Reds are not prepared to offer the former Champions’ League winner anywhere close to that figure; however if Sneijder were to agree to a sizeable pay cut then a deal could be struck.

Inter have accepted a bid of £6.3m for Sneijder from Galatasaray, with the Turkish club offering the Dutchman a weekly wage of around £100k per week. Sneijder, however, has been dragging his feet on the move and is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

“I am considering my options,” he said.

“It’s not a question of money. I have time to decide what to do and where to go before January 31.”

To bring Sneijder to Anfield would be a step away from the policy of signing young talent, which the Reds have sought to employ under FSG but, with club captain Steven Gerrard recently speaking out about the need to add experience as well as youth in order to ensure balance in the squad, perhaps now is the time for FSG and the club’s hierarchy to demonstrate this policy’s purported flexibility.

The move could be a perfect fit for both parties; Liverpool need to add experience and an attacking threat from midfield, a world class player like Sneijder brings these qualities.

Sneijder needs somewhere to kick start his career and re-establish himself as an automatic starter for Holland, a club with the stature of Liverpool may be just the platform on which to achieve that. Let’s hope so.

This reminds me of when Blackburn owners said they were going to sign Beckham and Ronaldinho . Pure bull

Liverpool will approach sneidjer , hear what his wages are …. then walk away . Then they will say to the fans – “look we tried , its not our fault , his demands were too high ”

sneidjer wouldn’t join us unless we had a proper manager anyway

Very true Olsen . I dont know why this site has resorted to repeating the gossip going round . Its silly giving these rumour the time of day until some proof is found

  • Ozred says:

Surely at 6.3m this is a no brainer. If the club is prepared to pay 20m for downing at 28 then surely they cough up 6.3 for a player 4 times the player dopey downing is. Cole is gone along with downing. Sell downing for the 3m he would bring in along with getting the imposter off our books. Just get the deal done.

    • Olsen says:

yes but just like aussies , americans dont understand football so it wont happen

      • Stab says:

Olsen which country are you from? Even though we Aussies DON’T know football as you put it. I’d bet our national team would kick your Nordic asses. ????

        • Peter says:

I doubt it, the Aussie national team is currently terrible. We are struggling to qualify for anything.

      • Ozred says:

Ok. This won’t happen because Aussies don’t understand football… Has the snow frozen your brain?

  • Jake says:

Sneidjer is a world class player…if Liverpool wants champion league football..we cant afford to loose him…

  • Paul Nando says:

Sign him now or you forget about c-l football this season

  • Gerrard Arinzechukwu Ebe says:

I understand that Branden did not want no how fans feelhe only cares on his own as a coach sign him now fans love him to come shane and joe cole how much are dey paying them before dey left the club see good player now sign him become problem just because he is not any english man

  • Matt says:

  • bob says:

look its simply speculation , straight out of the daily rubbish . not one reputable journalist has reported this because there is nothing to report

we all know sneidjer wont play for mid table team with a no mark manager

    • Brad says:

Actually James Pearce from the echo has reported this. He is about the best journo when it comes to LFC..

      • Eric says:

IF its not on SKY orBBC its only speculation . Pearce was just repeating what others wrote 24 hours previously , virtually word for word

        • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

Incorrect. Besides Sky reported/speculated this days ago. Also, I’d tend to take more note of something the Echo reports, rather than Sky.

  • Travis says:

Sneidjer would sign i bet you , if we got a top manager in place by end of january . No way Sneidjer would join club with fool of manager

  • RED7 says:

Rodgers doesnt want Sneidjer . He knows top players wont respect him so he always goes for unproven players . Why do u think he didnt play Sahin ?

  • vjm says:

Here we go again all calling for Sneijder. Anyway he wont come to us, but do we really need him. I mean we need a attacking mid but can Sneijder fits the bill. This shows we did not learned our lessons. We bought cole when he is out off form now we want Sneijder when nobody is bidding for him. Lets face it he was top class but right now he has past his best. On the other hand saf bought the inform striker of same age from pl experience yes for more than 25 mil, everotn bought pinar ( sorry for spell)but thats called the business.
Now even if get Sneijder were will he play cause BR will not drop his puppet.

    • fotheringham says:

Sneijder is only 28 and not out lf form , inter need him off wage bill . But you are right – Rodgers wont want Sneijder because it woll mean dropping his pet Allen
