THE Bundesliga is a hotbed of young, promising talent which Liverpool FC should be scouring during the transfer window.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers would be well served sending out a scouting party and coming back with the following 5 signatures.
Current club: Borussia Monchengladbach
The best young Goalkeeper in the Bundesliga by far, which is some commendation considering the likes of Kevin Trapp, Oliver Baumann and Bernd Leno are all established number 1s at their clubs. The ‘Gladbach stopper has already been capped twice for the German national side and has attracted interest from Premier league clubs. A commanding presence, his style has been likened to German legend Oliver Kahn.
Seen as the main rival for Manuel Neuer in the German goal, ter Stegen has all the tools necessary to provide competition for who wears the gloves for the foreseeable future. Big things are expected from the young goalkeeper, who ‘Gladbach will do well to keep hold of.
We should be going all out to land ter Stegen as he would be number 1 for some years to come. Comparisons to Kahn are very apt, but we could have our very own Schmeichel for the next ten years if we were to sign him. There is a real possibility he could come to us as well.
Current Club: Schalke 04
Position: Central/Attacking Midfield
Draxler is a central midfielder who is finally stepping out of the shadow of the Spurs-bound Lewis Holtby. Capped 3 times already at only 19 years of age, Draxler is a midfielder who has it all. A great passer with supreme vision and an eye for goal, the young midfielder oozes class in the middle of the park. Draxler will be looked upon to drag die konigsblauen up the table and he has already shown he has the expectations of him under control. Julian certainly has his best years ahead of him.
Draxler may cost a lot but he is definitely worth it. We may be midfielder-heavy at the club, but this kid has a hell of a lot to his game and is still only 19 years of age. Shame he looks like he will be at Schalke for some time to come, but I’d have him in a heartbeat.
Current Club: Borussia Dortmund
George Sephton must be hoping we never sign the man affectionately known as ‘Kuba. Captain of Poland and of the key players in Dortmund’s back to back title winning squad, ‘Kuba is a chance-creating, goal scoring midfielder who is at ease anywhere across the midfield. Along with team mates Robert Lewandowski and Lucasz Piszczek, the Polish trio make up a large portion of the first team and when all three link up its absolutely beautiful to watch. ‘Kuba would be very hard to get hold of, but he would be perfect in the right wing position under Rodgers as he works so hard for the team as well. In some ways he’s a more versatile Kuyt. Not a likely signing for many reasons, but a dream signing definitely.
Current Club: Hamburg
The South Korean is not only a brilliant young goal scorer, he would also crack the elusive Asian market we have seemingly fallen behind in. The shirt sales alone and the fact we would finally be getting more interest in Asia is one reason to splash the cash to bring in the Hamburg forward but when you see this lad play you can’t help but be impressed.
Tottenham have been long term admirers, but Liverpool should go hard for him in a real intent to get a brilliant, young forward who weighs in with goals and he was even the top scorer earlier in the season. With Gerrard and Suarez around him, he’d score a lot more too.
Current Club: Schalke 04
Position: Defensive Midfield
Borussia Monchengladbach were a real force last season in the Bundesliga and had a brilliant young defensive midfielder in Roman Neustadter who was the enforcer, although he is much more than that. Marco Reus and Dante have gone to Dortmund and Bayern respectively but Schalke arguably got themselves the most important member of the trio. A composed midfielder who is easily capable winning the ball back or laying off a perfect pass, Neustadter even recently managed to break the Schweinsteiger/Khedira stranglehold and became capped. If we wanted someone to provide competition for Lucas, then we should look no further than the Schalke midfielder.
