Come On FSG – Are Fans More Bothered About Wages Or Winning?

Holland's Sneijder and van PersieNUMEROUS media outlets have reported in recent days that Liverpool have a strong interest in Inter Milan’s Dutch midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Once seen as one of the best players in European football, Sneijder has become somewhat of an outcast at Inter following his refusal to take a pay cut from his lucrative £200,000 a week contract. His manager, Andrea Stramaccioni, remains adamant it is in fact a tactical decision regarding Sneijder’s absence from the team.

Reports have emerged from Sky Sports indicating that Liverpool FC Managing Director Ian Ayre suggested that the club has no interest in Sneijder – citing the ‘long-term interests’ of the club as the main reason why the Dutchman would not be considered as a potential signing. His astronomical wages would also be an issue for the Reds owners, despite Ayre claiming that Liverpool are in a strong financial position to compete.

This sort of attitude portrays a general feeling that our owners are more interested in cutting the wage or, at the very least, keeping it as low as possible rather than seriously targeting silverware.

The addition of Sneijder to Liverpool would significantly increase the quality of the squad, a squad which distinctly lacks players of immense talent.

Liverpool have not scored enough goals this season – it is as simple as that. For me, Sneijder, available for about £8 million, would go some way to improving that as the link between midfield and attack. The Dutch international isn’t a stranger to scoring a number of goals himself, either.
[ad_pod id=”liverpool-tees” align=”center”]
For those that say Sneijder is ‘too old’ or ‘past it’ need to check the facts – he is 28 and, by my calculations, should just be reaching the peak for him career should he be given the platform to do so. There are not many better platforms than Liverpool in world football regardless of our current position in the Premier League. If Liverpool were to hand Sneijder a four-year deal then even at the end of that contract he would still only be the same age that our captain Steven Gerrard is now – think of it that way.

My question to the fans – do you genuinely care about what wages a player is on if he is playing well, setting up goals, scoring goals and winning matches for our club? Personally, I am not. Look at Manchester United – they have just paid £24 million for a 29-year old injury-prone forward. That forward will win them the Premier League almost on his lonesome.

These big players, in today’s game, can make all the difference.

If the men that run our club continue to favour lowering the wage budget as opposed to signing quality players when they become available, then the fans will have to accept the consistent arrival of average players for many years to come as we face an uphill challenge to return to the upper echelons of not just European but English football.

Buy him, and buy him now. we need good players…. Good players cost a lot of money. But if Liverpool want to win silverware, then they have to Spend.

Get in the Game FSG, ore sell the club to someone with ambitions.

    • tommy says:

hiya mike , its the same situation as dempsey , today we find a world class player in sneijder, but no word from our club , ian ayre be honest to us liverpool supporters , you see us fighting for the TRUTH for the 96 , we want the honesty always ian ayre ,

      • Howie says:

u wont get honesty from Ayre . He is as bad as the yanks he hides behind

      • Chan says:

Oh yes just to add, its no surprise that a former coach/manager of the Red Sox said in an interview that Werner and Henry are more interested in “Sexing” up their team instead of concentration in winning silverware. They are more concern with TV ratings.

This is the kind of creep who owns our great club and which IA is defending.

    • Chan says:

Ian Ayre had just confirmed our long held suspision that FSG is just anothr reincarnation of their countrymen H&G.

There are here to make money, pure and simple and LFC is just another platform for the to do so. Screw our glorious legacy, they do not care, as long as the profits are in.

So their henchmen like IA and BR were recruited as part of this devious scheme. Now you all know why a clown with just 1 season of top flight experience with absolutely no silverware to his name was appointed over one that has won us the CL in his first season wit us. BR is compliant to the evil team of FSG and IA. They now do form an axis.

Many, including their own fans had given the Glazers stick for piling for piling up their club with debt while completely ignoring the fact that they had backed their manager, the latest as you had rightly observed Mik, a 24 mill injury prone prolific striker who would mostly like almost single handedly wins them their 20th title.
Many LFC fans laugh at their predicament.

We on the other hand is debt free (FSG and their legion of supporters like to remind us) but of course would not say that during their ownership we are closer to relegation than to the top, nevermind challenging for the title. Look how naive FSG are, their entire ownership and transfer strategy is based on UEFA’s FFP.

  • Kenny says:

What makes you think they want silverware, it didn’t save Kenny.

    • Chan says:

It did not save Kenny as that fool dished out 20 mill for a winger that todate scored 1 goal in the league with 0 assist and just a handfull of decent games.

Should i proceed with that 35 mill striker who is now on loan at WEst Ham?

    • Chan says:

Oh yeah compared to 24 mill that a certain United paid for their star striker?

  • john says:

why didnt we look to find owners with a few quid when we got rid of the other fools!! has our rep fallen so much that psg or malaga were a better pick for the super rich from the far east

    • Chan says:

Our rep s fine John, just that we did not wait long enough and we were being screwed, again by Americans.

  • Ian says:

    Buy him buy him buy
Utd offered 40 mill for him 1 1/2 years ago
Look at it like this what would u pay for him if he was on a normal wage for a footballer of 100,000 a week ,personally I think about 20 mill would be fair .he is on offer for 8 that’s a savings of 12 million if u factor that into a 3 year contract that’s a savings of 80,000 a week of his transfer fee if you factor that into his 190,000 a week wages your are only really paying him 110,000 a week all sums are in euros . Now is Wesley sneijder worth that a week in my opinion YES

    • You heard says:

I am all in for the Dutchman but only if he cuts his wage to $120,000. To pay what Inter have paid is crazy. He is not worth $200k a week..only a select few (ronaldo, messi, zlatan) can command the wage.

He hasn’t played in months so I worry that if we sign him for $200k a week then we run the risk of injury. Also, the players might want a wage increase…

Sign him for $110k a week with performance clauses that could bump up to $140k.

And can we please leave King Kenny be? We must look forward – it does us no good dwelling on the past.

      YNWA

      YOUHEARD

  • tommy says:

if we bought sneijder, im sure the replica lfc shirt with his name on it would pay sneijder’s fee, wages and still make profit , even from sale only in far east , im sure we could push on for 4th place in league and champions league next season , ive never been to school but i can see a player of this quality is needed mostly at our club IF we really want to go FORWARD , im born n bred in anfield area of our city and been watching our team since 1968, every body is hoping we get wesley sneijder and a few others like him in the next widow , WE NEED TO SHOW INTENT THAT WE MEAN BUSINESS ,,, COME ON LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB GET IT ON

    • simon says:

Problem is .. the only business FSG care about is the money making business – not the being a great team business

  • Tommo says:

Anyone who thinks FSG are more interested in winning than profit are simply mad .

I agree with the article fully , we want the best for our club , not the cast offs that nobody else wants .

Liverpool cant move forward with FSGs ridiculous penny pinching strategies , its time we tried to get them out

    • Chan says:

FSG would not do what is best for our club. Its up to US to do what is best for our club.

Lets wage a war to get rid of FSG, we did it once we can do it again.

      • Souey's 'tache says:

And how are u gonna do that, from behind ur pc? You’ve prob never even set foot in Liverpool…ur just another modern footy, glory hunting Internet ‘fan’ whining cos we don’t have petro dollar owners

  • Stephen says:

Where do you guys think we are going to find owners that are going to throw money at the team like in Man City? How long do we reallistical expect owners like this to keep throwing money at the team with-out making a profit?

    • Mac says:

Arab land . And fsg havent really ‘thrown’ much money at all at it . Net spend on transfers less than 50m in 2 years

    • Chan says:

Here is a challenge, make FSG sell our club at a reasonable rate and we would show you the many billionaire fans outthere who are willing to do so, not just in Arabland

  • tommy says:

now , its saying suarez is gonna get 6 of the best, by the manager , for talking about the dive against stoke , amazing , luis getting the cane!!

  • Roger Johnson says:

I think it’s an interesting point and no doubt he is a fantastic player but when were reportedly still paying joe cole £50 thousand a week and Wesley wants at least £120 thousand a week, matching our top earners can we really afford an extra six million pound a year on our wage bill. As a fan there is nothing I’d like to see more than a premier league trophy, however overspending with no guarantee of champions leauge football is dangerous mix. You only have to look at previous example of Leeds united to see the peril in this, with a much needed stadium renovation around the corner and financial fair play supposedly coming into effect soon maybe now isn’t the best time. This is all my own opinion feel free to slate it.

    • simon says:

you cant win without top players , is he guaranteeing success ? of course not …. but its more likely we will be successful with top players like Sneijder than bargain basement rubbish like Assaidi

Also , everyone knows the financial fair play thing is just a joke . City have already proved it by paying themselves 300m to change name of the stadium

      • Roger Johnson says:

I understand you need top players but the fact is we still have too many overpaid bargain basement players on are books to go out and sanction this transfer I personally celebrated the signing of Joe Cole and will get behind the signing of any player. I cant be alone in feeling that sneijder is just a soulless mercenary who will take the money and run. Would he really want to play and give it us all on a cold January evening at stoke away.

        • Howie says:

He is a top player , not a joke like Allen . There is no justification in calling him a mercenary . He didnt get to the top without performing

wste of time talkin about this . FSG wont pay , end of

    • Chan says:

Roger, i have got to agree with both Simon and Howie. If this Dutchman somehow magicall help us to 4th (i said magicall for a team managed by the clueless BR), would it not paid for itself then?

An incompetent player like Allen is on our books, how much is that costing us already?

We are not sure of Wesley’s real intention of course but over the past season and a half we have got rid of Cole, Kuyt, Maxi, not enough still? Are we an accountant firm of LFC?

  • Mac says:

Winning is more important than saving money , do u think Man U fans would trade places with us ? I dont think so … they spent 25m on a 29 year old , they have lots of debt , but they will win the league and have a go at winning Champions league

Liverpool have a cheap manager , bought cheap rubbishy players in the summer , are struggling in mid table with little or no chance of silverware or of attracting any top players …… but hey , we have no debt ….. woooohooo

  • Distant relative says:

Fellow lfc fans, our club is a racist club and the pple in charge(not fsg). Then as for fsg, they are very very poor, they are not as rich as we think they are. If wesley was a british, it would be have a different thing. We know latino players are the ones progressing the teams at the top 4, if not for them where would epl be? Imagine lfc paying 35mill for the most foolish idiot in fball. Infact i know daglish frauded fsg.

    • simon says:

Dalglish never did anything wrong , your just lying … so shut up

Kenny Dalglish would do anything to help this football club , he would never do anything to harm it

      Shame on u

    • simon says:

Dalglish never did anything wrong, your making it up

Kenny Dalglish would do anything to help this football club, he would never do anything to harm it

      Shame on u

      • Chan says:

Is that why KD paid :

        1) 20 mill for a winger that had only 1 goal in the league with 0 assist? He was so bad he was experimented as a left back.

        2) 35 mill for a striker who was loaned out? RVP cost United just 24 mill just for comparison sake. That 35 mill was actually more than enough to pay for the entire attack of MEwcastle season past.

        3) 6 mill for a midfielder whom Fergie says his free kicks alone is worth 10 mill. Sadly he could not pass the table salt and Fergie curiously did not bid for him.

        4) Another 20 mill for a “developing” talent midfielder? Well he is still developing and oh a London club paid 24 mill for a world class talent who actually plays for the World Champion.

        • Gary says:

Mistakes , bad judgement perhaps , NOT wrong doing , NOT intentionally

        • Souey's 'tache says:

Chan – Again constantly showing how LITTLE you know about the club u claim to support. It was Comolli who paid those prices, Comolli! Get it?! That wasn’t Kenny’s area. He may have said he wanted those players, but didn’t pay the prices, that was Comilli’s job, and why he was spectacularly fired!

    • Souey's 'tache says:

In fact, you have just proven you know nothing!

  • tommy says:

we need top players sneijder is this , quality over quantity , kk has shares in lfc , and owned many many houses around anfield which are pulled down now , its like he and his party have a hold over our club , to be honest lfc have never giving anything back to the area

    • simon says:

Dalglish cares more about LFC than anyone else

      • Distant relative says:

Simon shame on you and your uncle kk. You don’t know what it means to waste other people’s hard earned money on your brother aunty carrol and co. He said they are for the future and he’s using them in the present. Is that not harm? He even went ahead and bench the senior players they were suppose to learn from, is that not harm? Because they are not british. Racists, no wonder british don’t produce a single player in fifa 11.

        • Howie says:

your a an ignorant idiot .ur obviously a foreigner .. so if Liverpool is racist then get lost and support someone else

          fkin troll

        • Doug says:

Ive seen some idiots commenting here , but you are just mental

          go see a shrink

        • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

Make your point better, and without ridiculous accusations or move on from here.

      • Chan says:

Simon, read my above post and shame on you all racist bigots. You mean another fan can’t have a different opinion? He is suppose to bug off? Are any of you any better with this comment?

I happen to agree with DR. I am not sure KD is racist, but he sure are incompetent as a modern manager.

Have any of you check the passport of his flops as said above?

  • tommy says:

kennys good as gold , simon

    • Erin says:

Kenny good as gold . Yes agree. For being Liverpool through and through. Greatest player, fantastic manager first time.

Second time ? Come on. Live in the real world.

  • RoytheRed says:

FSG won’t pay for Sneijder or any top players. We’re done now untill the Summer.

  • tommy says:

sneijder’s a world class footballer and would bring profit through replicated lfc tops and other bits , beckham made madrid big money and everywhere else he went to , because he was marketed properly

  • Niall says:

Id rather the Glazers than FSG anyday . In 20 years time people will remember the trophies utd won . who cares if we have no debt . History remembers winners not gallant losers

    • Erin says:

Who cares about a lot of debt?? Seriously? Do you remember the time when RBS owned our club? Hicks and gillett? Leeds utd? Get a grip mate. Things under BR are dreadful , but could get much, much worse if you get debt and banks involved

      • mesmeric says:

not true . whats the worst yhat could happen to a club liverpools size ? administration fine ,if in administration it would give new owners the chance to come in and get liverpool for a song , they would be queing up . ok 10 points dropped but so what , no more FSG .

anyway utd are doing fine , no administration , no bank worries , everything is managed fine plus they are havin success and lots of it

  • Nigel says:

As much as I would like Wesley at LFC, there has to be some realism amongst the fans. Hicks and Gillett had set us back many years after leveraging the purchase of the club on a loan. Don’t forget, we would have folded if not for FSG. The next thing is that LFC have spent frivolously on wages for average players over the recent years- joe cole especially. I’m sure players like Charlie Adam, downing, Henderson and Carroll are on larger wages than the quality of their play merits. Every team has a wage budget and I’m sure right now, ours is nearly maxed. So until we can sell such players, we can’t go for the top bracket players and to be honest we need Champions League for that. The next thing is the stadium. This is a major point with regard to income. We need a minimum 60,000 stadium. What I’m getting at is the restructuring of LFC is going to take a few years yet. It’s not just about the playing squad as a lot of factors relate to who we can attract to the club. It’s a transitional season. Next year may be a little better as we have the summer to try and chop and change the squad..

    • tommy says:

bang on the button nigel , average players on top dough, buys for the future my arse! what about THE NOW ,

    • Doug says:

Nonsense . FSG are just too tight and font care about LFC _

And dont hold your breath on the whole stadium thing , or havent we learned our lesson from H&G ?

      • Nigel says:

We will see how serious FSG are by the stadium renovations…. If they go through with that, then they are definitely serious. We do have to offload the high earners that don’t contribute like joe cole, so that we have surplus wage budget to get the top players we all want to see in a Liverpool shirt. These types of budget and transfer budget will increase with a larger stadium, sponsorships etc. I don’t want to see us 8th, unable to beat any top 10 side so far , but it’s definitely a work in progress and it won’t be quick cos we aren’t owned by a sheik!

        • mesmeric says:

its a disaster in progress , and only the blind cant see that . 2 and half years of FSG and as close to new stadium as day 1

  • imraan says:

However, Rodgers says that he is not confident at this stage of the club pulling off the deal, telling reporters: “I can’t see it happening.

“You could probably rattle off about 20 names and the answer would be the same. The club have been linked with a whole host of players but I couldn’t see that happening.

“We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks. Daniel was our main priority and we’ll have to see what else is available.

“There’s no doubt we need to support the group. We had 20 players training this morning, of which some of those are our younger players, so we know we need to reinforce and top up the group. That’s something we’ll look to do.

“If we can do it, then great and if not, then we’ll wait until the summer.”
This is the quote comming straigt out of BreDOOM Rogers Mouth… wen will the Liverpool Fans wake up to the Puppet (BR) and the Muppet (Ayre ) show …Ayre say we have money the other says theres no money , then BR says we need to sign player the other says not right now , One says funds are availible the other says rebuilding takes time ….. They just effing playing games with Us

  • imraan says:

oh and BOTH dont care about the fans cuz as long as they do their masters bidding they will be in a JOB .

  • majimajik says:

I agree with you ‘distant relative’ above.
LFC is a racist club! for a long time the team has craved for a midfield enforcer like Diame of west ham or Diakite/Wanyama/Tiote!
But because they are african, they are not even considered!
since Mascherano and Momo Sissoko left, liverpool has always been light weight. I have always wished for the coaches to go to africa or latin america to discover a gem. but you know what, they don’t have the ‘correct’ skin color.
we of other far off areas love liverpool just like the scousers! winning is what matters and if the scouts come to africa, they will get cheaper players who are quality and fit the fsg’s requirements!
    end of rant!

    • Nigel says:

This is utter rubbish. there is a homegrown players quota (currently 8 I believe), in a 25 man squad?
British players in first Team squad:
Wisdom, carra, Flanagan,Robinson,Henderson, downing,Allen, gerrard, Johnson,Sturridge for example
      Foreign:
      Reina, agger, skrtel,Enrique,Lucas,Borini,Suarez,suso,Coates
This isn’t true about racism. Players from Africa or South America need work permits for the UK, so unless they already play in Europe and play for their national team regularly, we can’t buy them. Also, we aren’t in a financial position to buy them and loan them out to teams to gain these work permits, like Lucas Piazon at Chelsea, who has been loaned out to Malaga.

    • Erin says:

We are not a racist club? Which race are you talking about anyway?
No, we have an amateur in charge who doesn’t know the meerkat? Simples

    • mesmeric says:

      idiot

    • The King says:

      If we r rac!st , why are u supporting a rac!st club ?

do u even know what rac!st means ?

    • Jimmy Areabi (Editor) says:

Absolutely ridiculous comment. Either comment sensibly, or move along – accusations like that will not be tolerated on here.
