Liverpool Fc legend Jamie CarragherLIVERPOOL FC legend Jamie Carragher has today revealed that he will be retiring from football at the end of the season. In a statement on the club’s official website Carragher said:

“This will be my last season at Liverpool and my last as a professional footballer.

“I’m making this announcement now because I don’t want the manager or the club to be answering questions on my future when I’ve already decided what I am going to do.

“I will be fully committed between now and the end of the season to doing the very best for Liverpool Football Club, as I’ve done my entire career since joining aged just nine-years-old.

“It has been a privilege and an honour to represent this great club for as long as I have and I am immensely proud to have done so and thankful for all the support I have had. There are many memories I want to share and people to thank, but now is not the time for that.

“I won’t be making any further comment on this decision until the end of the season; all our focus and concentration should be on achieving the best possible finish in the league this season and trying to win the last remaining trophy we are competing in.”

Carragher is Liverpool’s second highest all-time appearance maker behind Ian Callaghan and has won FA Cups, League Cups, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup and captained the Reds to European Super Cup victory in 2005. It is not yet known whether he will be offered a position at the club in a non-playing role at the end of his contract.

Great player, sad to see it end. Deserved a title medal but let down by under achieving, incapable managers and owners.

I hope they retire the No. 23 shirt in his honour. I can’t imagine anyone else wearing it.

Name a lounge or something after him, We dont want to go down that road of retiring numbers , we would have to retire 8 when stevie retires etc etc

Then we would have retired 7 after KD,and what would Suarez be wearing? Lol

A true legend,a loyal servant to the club,a larger than life leader and in my eyes he alone was Mr Liverpool not someone that twice held us to ransom.Jamie you wil be missed by all of us I jus wish ud won a league medal before this time came.ya look at players that won league medals over the yrs that sat on the bench made a few quid an took the glory(micheal Owen being a prime example at manure),maybe one day you wil lead us to prem glory as our manager.thanks for the memories
