Lucas Suarez LFCLIVERPOOL FC’s Lucas Leiva is insistent that prolific goalscorer Luis Suarez should be awarded the PFA’S Players Player of the Year trophy to reward him for his magnificent season for the Reds.

Suarez has bagged an outstanding 25 goals in all competitions this season, outscoring his closest rivals Robin van Persie (23 goals) and Gareth Bale (19 goals) for the coveted award. Suarez will be hoping to become Liverpool’s first winner since Steven Gerrard, who won in 2006, and Lucas believes Suarez should end Liverpool’s exile from the list of winners.

“Luis will certainly be challenging for that award, it has been such an amazing season for him. He has been scoring a lot of goals and showing everyone all the qualities he has. I just hope he wins because I think he deserves it after everything he has done this season.”

Lucas then moved on to who he thinks will be the most likely candidates for the award.

“I think it’s going to be between Luis, Van Persie and Bale. All three have performed really well and have scored a lot of goals. But we hope Luis has got the luck to win it. He has been so important for us and is a special player. It’s just so good to have him in our team. We just hope he can continue playing at this level and scores many more goals before the end of the season.”

Suarez is set to make his 90th appearance for Liverpool in their clash against Wigan, and with 46 goals already under his belt, there is no doubt about his importance to Liverpool. Suarez may reach yet another landmark if he scores a brace against Wigan, as he will be only the second player (after Fernando Torres) to score 20 league goals in a season, in recent history.

Speculation has been rife regarding Suarez and whether he will seek a fresh challenge; Bayern Munich have been at the forefront of the rumours but Lucas is confident Suarez will stay committed to the Reds.

“After the season Luis is having I’m sure there will be a lot of speculation, that is bound to happen. At the end of the day it will be his decision and the club’s decision. But what I know from Luis is that he’s happy, he’s comfortable and his confidence is high. Nobody is thinking about the summer or next season yet.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Ya know that not many wil vote for Luis because of the grudge they hav against him since last season.he is a genius and we know he deserves it but its highly unlikely to happen cos nobody respects him which is sad considering he has schooled every defence in the league and ad its bn shown he has outscored the rest

Lets be honest .there is NO way Suarez will win . He could score 100 goals and they still wouldn’t give it to him
