Suarez and Enrique Liverpool trainingLIVERPOOL FC’s Jose Enrique has revealed that he considers Luis Suarez on a par with Barcelona ace Lionel Messi, with his immaculate footballing skills and he ability to breeze past defenders.

The defender revealed the trouble he has to prevent Suarez even when in training.

Suarez has scored an astonishing six goals in his last three games and is currently the top scorer in the Premiership with 21 goals – 28 in all competitions.

However Enrique does not think Suarez’s importance is merely down to goals, and in an interview with Liverpool’s official website he wasted no time in highlighting Suarez’s ability to break through enemy defences as similar to that of Messi.

“I tell Luis all the time that he always does the same thing – he tries to do nutmegs, and you just know that he is going to do it, but you can’t stop him.

“When you know someone, you can know what they are going to do – but he’s still a very difficult player to train against. He scores so many goals in training.

“It’s like with Messi – everyone says he is going to cut inside all the time. And you know that he is going to do this but you can’t stop him from cutting inside and scoring goals. With Luis, it’s the same.”

Suarez is a top contender for this season’s PFA Player of the Year award and is expected to be part of a three way battle including himself, Robin van Persie and Gareth Bale, but Enrique is hopeful that the 26 year old will be able to claim the prize.

“Van Persie and Bale are on fire, van Persie has been a very important player for Manchester United this season and Bale is doing very well. But Luis is my friend, so I would like him to win the Player of the Year award. It will be difficult for him. But, of course, I think he deserves it.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
