On the ascendancy?

Liverpool FC SpursI’VE read plenty of comments on this site in the past about how Rodgers must go, must go, are struggling, etc. True, Liverpool haven’t had the best of season’s but it’s time to start being cautiously optimistic.

After a slow start to the season it appears that Liverpool have started to turn things around at last.

Following the acquisitions of and Philippe in January, it is hard to argue the side haven’t been performing better no matter how anti-Rodgers you are.

It’s true, Liverpool aren’t at the heights that we as fans would like to see them at but our expectations for this season had to remain realistic. Of course Liverpool’s history and size warrants a top four finish or better every year, but expecting greatness from the lads this season may have been too harsh.

Not many clubs would be able to finish top four in such a competitive league with a brand new manager. Even Alex Ferguson wasn’t immediately successful. The Scot’s side finished 11th in his first year, second in his second, and then 11th again. Now I’m not saying Rodgers can become the next SAF, what I’m saying is that expectations should be tempered.

There’s still plenty of football to be played but Liverpool currently sit sixth in the league with the schedule generally easier on the way in. They only play a team currently above them in the table once more this season, leaving eight matches against teams currently below them. And that team above them is , whose inconsistency should be a positive sign among Liverpool fans. In other words, there is plenty to be optimistic about.

Last year Liverpool finished 8th and finished above them. As it stands right now Liverpool are in 6th and ahead of . Yes, they’re only ahead of their cross-town rivals on goal differential but I firmly believe Rodgers has Liverpool playing better than right now.

The run in to the end of the season is certainly going to be tense but it should inspire confidence going forward. This season hasn’t been as great as I would’ve hoped; indeed what fan of Liverpool wouldn’t want their team to be higher. But the way things are looking it appears that Liverpool are a side in the ascendancy.

Their heroic second leg against Zenit St. Petersburg seems to have been a spark for this team. Today Liverpool just beat a side that looked to be headed for a top four finish. True it may not have been the most convincing win but LFC battled back after falling behind and won the match. The good teams have to be able to win ugly.

I understand Rodgers and FSG have made some mistakes with players and the like in the past but it appears that things are headed in the right direction. However, I fully expect a successful transfer window this summer on the heels of an impressive run in to end this season.

Liverpool fans have every right to be critical of their squad but they also have every right to be optimistic as well.

Yes . Good win but yesterday was a gift from spurs . Still a long way off the top sides . Rodgers needs to see past that Welsh wimp asa solution or we will never improve

Glad to see some sensible realistic opinions on here , instead of the usual biased fools who imagine we are a great team

Best way to support Liverpool is to help get Rodgers out because he is holding us back

I was going to make some comments on the game and LFC in general but I won’t bother now as 99% of the people on this thread are nothing more than just a bunch of negative, moaning W**kers who think they know all the answers but obviously know sweet F**k All about the game.

Call yourselves supporters? Shame on the lot of you

Completely agree with you, the point of being a supporter of a team is to SUPPORT them through the good and the bad, not just to come around when there is glory.

Ei u ppl shd reason fast that spurs were running our midfd wit dembele nd parker bcos we were playn 4-4-2 so the best is to deploy one winger then replace wit a cmf which was allen though i was exptn hendason. And u can see that the likes of dembele, sigurdson were all shutted and we were able to hold the mimfld which then made sturidge to recieve crucial balls 4rm crucial areas. So i give credit to BR-AYEKOOO.. YWNWA
