LFC keeper ReinaBRENDAN Rodgers has been quick to once again dispel the rumours suggesting the departure of Pepe Reina from Anfield is imminent, and insists that they maintain a strong affiliation.

Reina is reported to be a target for Barcelona this summer, who seem set to lose Victor Valdes after he revealed he did not want to sign a new deal with the club.

Despite this, Rodgers insists that he is not going to let Reina go, insisting that the Spaniard is still in his plans and that he has never had any troubles with the 30 year old.

“I think a lot of the stuff this year has just been based on the speculation that Valdes is going. I am counting on him for next season, yes. He’s never been unsettled and our relationship is very strong.

“Pepe and I speak a lot. He’s a good man and I’ve real respect for him. I see him as someone who is going to be here.

“He is 30 years of age and is someone who looks after his body. The sports science team this year have worked really well with him. I think he’s been outstanding and had great focus and hopefully that will continue for us.”

Reina was signed for Liverpool by Rafa Benitez in 2005, and quickly became a fan favourite and a first team regular and has held that position ever since.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
