Date: 07/04/13

Kick-Off: 13:30

After coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park last weekend, Liverpool will be confident of picking up another three points at Anfield on Sunday when they host West Ham, a side the Reds beat 3-2 away from home back in December.

With Raheem Sterling (thigh) Liverpool’s only fresh injury problem going into Sunday’s game, Brendan Rodgers may name an unchanged starting XI from the side that won at Villa.

It was Steven Gerrard’s penalty that proved to be the winning goal last weekend and the Liverpool skipper is now just two goals away from reaching 100 Premier League goals. Meanwhile Luis Suarez, who has not scored in Liverpool’s last two matches, remains just one strike away from his 30th goal of the season in all competitions.

West Ham will be without on-loan striker Andy Carroll, who is ineligible to face his parent club. Carroll is likely to be missed after the former Newcastle striker scored twice in West Ham’s 3-1 win over West Brom last weekend. The Hammers will also be without former Liverpool midfielder Joe Cole, who misses out with a hamstring problem, while Mark Noble (shoulder) is another absentee.

West Ham have won just one of their last ten away games in the league, drawing one and losing eight, and Sam Allardyce’s team have not won at Anfield since 1963 back when the Beatles were at the height of their popularity.

The Hammers are 11th going into the weekend, six points clear of the relegation zone and the East London side need a few more wins yet to secure their Premier League status.

Liverpool meanwhile are seven points off fourth place and qualifying for the Champions League remains a distant possibility. However the Reds are in good form, having won four of their last five league outings, scoring 15 goals in the process.

Europa League qualification seems a more likely target for Brendan Rodgers’ side and victory over West Ham on Sunday would be another step towards achieving that objective.

  • You heard says:

Poor performance today. I don’t know about anyone else but I am sick and glen Johnson. He gives the ball away doesn’t win any balls on defense. I would sell him and get a proper right back. One who wants to defend first.
