Sturridge Liverpool FCDANIEL Sturridge bagged a brace for Liverpool in their 6-0 demolition of Newcastle at St James’ Park on Saturday after being reinstated to the starting line-up, sending a reminder that he did not join the Reds to sit on the bench.

Due to Luis Suarez’s lengthy ban of 10 games for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, Sturridge was awarded with a starting place in the squad and did not disappoint in making his mark as he notched two goals – and is relishing the opportunity to bag many more.

Sturridge told ESPN: “I wouldn’t say with Luis being out that I’m delighted as he’s a good player and it’s unfortunate that he’s got a lengthy ban, but it’s good for myself that I’m able to get some games as I didn’t come to Liverpool to sit on the bench. For me, it’s important to be playing and that’s what I want to do.

“The manager emphasised that we’ve got to be a team and stick together, and that’s what we’ve done. We’ve gone on the field and worked as a unit. It’s been a difficult week, but we’ve come out to do a job and that’s what we’ve done today.”

23 year old Sturridge has starred in 13 games for Liverpool since his arrival in January, and has supplemented some impressive performances with 8 goals.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Thats the attitude we need. Thats the type of players we need. He just needs to polish up his shooting at times!!

Now we are getting linked to Reading centre back pearce!! Mediocre players will destroy this team and we will go the opposite way. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FSG inject some serious money and let us buy world class players, otherwise we will be competing with teams like Swansea, Everton, Westham in mid-table.

Can’t see sturridge as a regular starter. He is a good sub and back up for Suarez thats all

He has too many games where he goes missing

Sturridge has been brilliant and is only gonna get a better and he links up great with Suarez and Coutinho, all this talk of him being a bench player is nonsense.
