Are Suso’s best interests served out on loan?

Lfc Spain playmakerTHE purchase of fellow Spaniards, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas in recent weeks have filled out a growing midfield and attack and so, youngsters such as Suso, Sterling and the like may find their chances much more limited this coming season.

With a Europa League campaign added to the Premier League and cups last season, Liverpool’s small squad was stretched to its limits and many of the younger players found themselves presented with many opportunities that they might not have got.

This season though, with no European football and a growing squad, our young stars from last season may have to look to loan moves or the odd substitute appearance to get some experience and minutes.

One or two youngsters, such as Wisdom and Kelly will not find games hard to come by, as unless we suddenly invest in a couple of top class full-backs/centre-backs as cover, they will be on the bench or starting more often than not next year.

But midfield and up front are areas where we’ve already strengthened and are likely to further before the transfer window closes in August and that means that exceptional young talents like Suso and Raheem Sterling may be somewhat wasted.

With regards Sterling, the fact that his stock rose so much last season, he should see enough action this season to keep him – and the fans too – happy.

Suso, however, may struggle. There is no doubting his talent but he plays in a very similar role to another young star, Philippe Coutinho, and the introduction of Luis Alberto is likely to limit his game-time even further.

Which is why I believe it will serve the best interests of the player and, in turn, the club to let Suso leave on loan, preferably before the season begins.

We’ve lost a number of youngsters over the years or seen their prodigious talent wasted through under-use and it would be utterly criminal if Suso spent another season on our bench or kicking his heels in the youth and reserve teams, only to then be let go for buttons to the likes of West Ham or Stoke.

It would equally be a huge error to let him go on loan to clubs like these, given their traditional style of play. We really don’t need him spending a season out on loan at a Premier League club and have the only thing he learns be how to kick lumps out of opposition players.

Ironically, the perfect manager to bring Suso on, on loan, would be the new Everton manager, Roberto Martinez, but that is really never going to happen and nor should it. Had he remained at his former club, then it would’ve been a possibility.

Similarly, clubs like Southampton and Swansea would be good choices but it is equally unlikely that the young Spanish maestro would see much football at either of these clubs.

For me, it would make a great deal of sense to contact Barca about a possible move to the Barcelona B side, in the Segunda Liga.

Given that we’ve just brought in another young Spaniard from the same team, it is clear to see that the club are more than equipped to bring a young player on and allow him to go some way to fulfil his potential; not least after having seen some of the worlds’ greatest come out of Barca, having started their careers in the ‘B’ side.

A year on loan in the Spanish equivalent of the Championship, at a club where expression and development as a real footballer are at the fore would be an invaluable thing for a young talent and would benefit both the club and the player, hopefully for many years to come.

Agree with the idea but much better Brighton than Barca, if he is brilliant he’ll finish up moving to Barca if he goes there on loan!

Why would Barca use there resources and coaching to improve a Liverpool player makes no sense at all

      That’s a good point!

I was annoyed that he rejected a loan move to Wigan in January

Crystal Palace would be a good loan deal, he’s got more Prem experience than a lot of there players and the footballs ok. Would be happy to see him stay & get a few games in the cups, will have to wait & see who if anyone else we bring in first.

Should definitely loan out, I’m a little undecided on the Alberto transfer, Alberto is 20 and Suso is 19 so why did we bring in Alberto when we have Suso?

I wonder whether Alberto’s ability also yo play false 9 helps. I think the key reason is goals, thus us something Suso us yet to add one his game, certainly at the top level. I think Suso may play better a little further back than Alberto. I think both would play plenty in the cups. Not sure Alberto will start the Premier League in the 1sr team.

Also to those saying “why would Barca take our player on loan”. He said Barcelona B, they’re in the second division and had Alberto on loan. I think a loan deal to them would be ideal and its not unrealistic

They only took Luis on line with an option to buy. They’d never take up precious development space in their cantera with a player they didn’t have an option on. Also they’ll be promoting players from the level below next season. Suso is best off going elsewhere on loan I think.
