Liverpool legendsLIVERPOOL’S captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that his first season without fellow Scouser Jamie Carragher will be ‘strange’.

Gerrard also believes that Carragher’s replacement will have a massive void to fill at Anfield, replacing a man who has been a constant presence in a career spanning for over 16 years and over 700 games for the Reds.

Brendan Rodgers has already made plans for replacing Carragher; his first signing this summer was Kolo Toure from Manchester City, who also boasts years of experience with a number of different clubs.

Rodgers has also been linked with a number of defenders this summer and will hope to acquire some defensive talent in order to replicate the relentless dedication shown by Carragher.

However, Gerrard believes that the club will face a tough challenge to replace Carragher, saying in The Daily Post:

“Of course, from a selfish point of view I wish he was coming back and doing one more season. Hopefully the replacements we get in perform well for us because they are certainly big shoes to fill.

“It will feel strange and it will be different [next season]. I’m used to hearing his voice from day one of pre-season. But he’s got other things that he needs to focus on; he’s going down the TV avenue and he’s going to be working for Sky, so we all wish him good luck with that.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
