Ghana wingerLIVERPOOL FC have pulled out of the race to sign FC Porto winger Christian Atsu according to today’s Liverpool Echo. It was thought that the Reds were in pole position to sign the speedy wideman for a cut price of around £3m, but that is no longer the case.

Liverpool instead wish to give more opportunities to their two young wide players, Raheem Sterling and Jordan Ibe.

Sterling is now well on the road to recovery after a long term thigh injury and it is hoped that with a clean bill of health he can recapture the form that he showed in the early months of last season which won him his first England cap.

Several clubs have also been sniffing around Sterling, in the hope of whisking him away from Anfield on-loan. Howveer, Rodgers will not allow Sterling to leave.

Ibe, just 17, is another player whose development Liverpool are keen not to disturb by bringing in Atsu. The former Wycombe Wanderers player made his Liverpool debut in the final game of last season against Queens Park Rangers. He produced a mature display and also provided the assist for Philippe Coutinho’s winning goal that day.

Despite Atsu’s contract expiring in a year’s time, Liverpool are no longer interested in pursuing the Ghanaian.

Must have been to expensive for the yanks, the net spend on players so far is 3 million
these yanks don’t have a pot to *in! yanks out!

  • Redsimm622 says:

Irrelevant. Without players of the class of Mkhitaryan & Papdopoulos we’ve got no chance of top 4. Once again FSG refuse to spend the sort of cash needed. Mid-table next season at best & BR out of a job!

  • nigel honeyman says:

I say one name arda turan now breadan go get him

  • David says:

Lets get tiago he would be a cert to get his game that would keep him happy and he is class for 15mil

  • juan says:

I really do support rodgrers in mostly evrythn he does BUT loosing MKHITARYAN for just no reason, while the plsyer forced the move to anfield, rodgers has made the most stupid decision(according 2 me)… now get eriksen o another person as a replacement of our target(mkhitaryan)

    • Tik says:

Mkhitaryan opted for Dortmund and Champions League. Simple! That’s not the fault of FSG. There’s no point banging on about spending money…FFP is happening now. Pointless spending zillions to qualify for CL if you fail the financial test to play in it. There’s other transfer targets. You won’t get them all.

      • Peterson says:

Don’t be so naive . Financial fair play wont make any . difference. City and Monaco have proved that. And it is fsg fault. Dortmund only developed a interest a few days ago . If they paid what was asked we would have him

  • juan says:

Alcantara, eriksen, ben arfa, grenier and other payers should be considerd, and sign quickly the one u have choosen, fo we realy need another top class attackng mdfielder..

  • ryan says:

i say let suso or alberto lose on the a/m role…. Both prefered positions, give them a go… Save 20 mill we need a c/b and d/m more…. Any player that doesnt want to wear the red and play at anfield aint worth having!!

    • richh81 says:

Exactly my sentiments, he didnt (as far as we’ve been made aware) even enter into discussions with us – not worth it then was he!

  • richh81 says:

You lot are idiots! We matched the price comfortably but HE chose to join dortmund because of the champions league football on offer. Get your facts straight people or risk sounding like repetitive boring uneducated morons – oh wait you do!

    • Colin says:

Stop being such a bell end . Try reading the facts b4 posting nonsense. Liverpool NEVER made a bid …get it ? Wake up

    • realist says:

Ha ha ha . Looks like your the idiot again. Shakhtar president confirmed 2 days ago that Liverpool have made no bids. So your the boring uneducated moron who can’t even get simple comments correct

  • kuye mutiu says:

B.R since you took a liverpool job you don’t even buy mature player.shame of you and owner.

  • nickliv says:

You are not asked to play for liverpool you are invited. You strive to be # legened. This requires effort. If this is not in your nature then you are not for us. Its along road that requires. All your heart & soul if you lack either then you are not worthy. Many a liverpool legend came from the lower legues to make this club great. If you think that you are better than these legends. Then dont sign for lfc as you are not fit or worthy to wear the shirt

  • Peterson says:

Im afraid missing out on mkhitaryan is more incompetence from fsg and/or Rodgers. They really are useless . We could have signed him weeks ago but dithered.

  • ryan says:

i agree with nickliv.. Lfc only need players that want to walk out at anfield and hear ynwa… Wel get there with or without glory hunters… Ive been a liverpool fan for 20 yrz. In rodgers i trust.. Plz lfc fans, give him time…

  • armchairlfcfan says:

Good decision. Both gifted youth players should be retained and given more playing time to enable them to realise their true potential.

  • mentor says:

Good decision, steiling needs more playing time and ibe needs to be a seconds half player this season to gain some experience. Lfc should go for C erikson after loosing henrik to borrussia. And we need llori.

  • stevie says:

Good decision. Let’s see the youngsters given a chance. Sterling is clearly good enough as proved last season and ibe looks an exciting prospect who will only get better if he plays more

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

fsg would sign any player that rodgers wants e:g allen nd sturridge. i once commented that the henrick deal wld never happen nd am not surprised. am only surprised but glad he didnt sign atsu cos thats the class (average nd overhyped) of players he loves to sign. lets hope he doesnt sign wayama nd erikson. we need a DM¡!¡!
