Reds relaunch Papadopolous raid

Greece LFCACCORDING to The Metro, Liverpool have reignited their interest in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopolous, and have put forward a bid in the region of £12 million.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is still looking to bolster his ranks for next season, and after the signing of Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas in attack, the Northern Irishman is looking at add to Kolo Toure and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to strengthen his defensive positions.

Rodgers has not cut back with his spending this summer, with the trio of Mignolet, Aspas and Alberto already adding up to a total of £23 million.

Despite this, it appears Rodgers does not have any qualms about spending even more money, with the boss preparing to toss another £12 million into the spending pot for Papadopolous, who has been a Liverpool target for some time.

Schalke are believed to be taking Liverpool’s bid into consideration, but it is widely suspected that they will ask the Reds to, at the very least, match the Greek international’s £19 million release clause before they can go any further.

Papadopolous, who is able to play across the back four, has long been touted as a replacement for Jamie Carragher, and at 21 years old he will have plenty of time to stake his claim.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Pap has been injured since last November, a very risky buy.

    • slim says:

Nistelrooy was injured when Fergie chased him and everyone feared he was injury prone. That Lucas has two long injuries in a short space doesn’t make him injury prone as his record show he has never been really injured until that one and he may never get a long term injury again. Its the nature of the injury and probability of recurrence that doctors will take into consideration. 12m for Papa? I will jump at him even if its 15 and he has. 60-40 chance of not getting injured again. That dude is a monster and would be worldclass in 2years.

At 21, we can get a good number of years from him. As for the injury, I am sure the medical team will not sanction the signing if the chances of a full recovery are not great.

  • jesse's son says:

    No liverpool no football…ynwa!

  • Redsimm622 says:

12m will not be enough but 16m might be. Excellent defender – get him

Rogers should look into signing a defensive midfielder, these attackers and defenders can wait for january transfer window as we enough of them to reach that period

  • simon says:

The report suggests we are only buying and not selling. So far we have spent nothing net. Only investment or incredible coaching and management will get us out of our current position. Which one will it be?

  • Raam says:

Papa will be our own sparky!! He’s one scary dude! LFC should have been prepared regarding his injury..If he joins LFC,our defence will once again be a fortress.

  • allaboutanfielid says:

I really wonder why is Liverpool FC taking so long to close this deal ??? If we continue to drag our feet o this one we may also lose him to another club.
