LFC managerLIVERPOOL boss Brendan Rodgers is relishing the opportunity to add more signings to his quartet of talent he has already procured this season, according to Sky Sports.

The Northern Irishman has already concluded deals for Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Simon Mignolet this summer, and Rodgers is eager to bring in some more “exciting” signings in his rejuvenation of the squad.

Rodgers feels that if Liverpool are to pose a proper challenge for a return to the top four this season, then there are a few more signings are needed to bring in that quality.

Speaking to The Liverpool Echo, Rodgers said: “Nothing is close but plenty of work is going on. There is daily dialogue going on but I am confident that we will get the one or two players who will really excite and complete the jigsaw.

“It was great to make the four signings so early on but we have still got some more work to do to strengthen the team.”

Despite Rodgers’ optimism, he has failed this summer to lure one of their top targets, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, to the club and could do nothing as the Armenian instead made the switch to Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking of the whole saga, Rodgers said: “If you are not in the Champions League, that naturally makes it tougher, we all have the same objective. We all want to be there. If you are a manager or player, you want to be at that level.

“That is always the case when you are going for good players. But I’m sure good players still want to come to this club.

“There has been lots of players linked but the fact is we really only had one top target and unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to speak to that player before he moved from Shakhtar.”

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

I think BR sounds like he is deluded or a split personality on what Liverpool have to do to be a top 4 team selling a player based on his weekly wages is daft he is a manager not the club accountant he would make a great politician or dodgy car sales man

BR is a gud coach, sturidge n coutihno were best last season by contributing immensely.

  • Naijared says:

I understand most of what BR is doing. I don’t understand the financial outlay for Eriksen. I admit that aside champions league matches, I have not seen much of him. But having watched almost all our games under BR, I think we have enough of this ‘type’ of player. If the marquee signing to get the fans excited is so important, sort out the Suarez issue first. If he stays, and can be forgiven by the fans, it will serve as a marquee signing. If not, sign a proven finisher.
