Shelvey set for exit

jonjo-shelvey LiverpoolACCORDING to a report from The Liverpool Echo this morning, Reds midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is the subject of a £6 million transfer to Swansea City and is travelling down to South Wales to finalise the move.

There were initial reports that both Cardiff and Crystal Palace were interested in the 21 year old, however it has transpired that the Swans are now in pole position.

The Premiership new boys were initially interested in taking Shelvey for a season long loan; however Liverpool challenged this and were looking for a permanent transaction which they were hoping could earn them around £7 million.

At Palace, Shelvey would have been reunited with former boss Ian Holloway, who was his manager during his time at Blackpool for his three month stint on loan in 2011; and this affiliation with the Holloway was thought to be a major incentive for Shelvey to shun the Welsh duo and opt for Palace.

However Brendan Rodgers’ former side have seemingly put the required money on the table and the midfielder is now to discuss personal terms.

Shelvey came to Anfield in 2010 from Charlton Athletic in a £1.7 deal, and in his first season with the Reds earned 21 appearances, the next season under Kenny Dalglish he notched up another 16, however he has slipped down the pecking order under Brendan Rodgers, with a mere three appearances since the turn of the year.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Quite an aggressive player. Laudrup will work his magic on him though. Hope he fits in costing so much! 🙂
