Disillusioned Suarez must avoid Arsenal side-step to go forward

LiverpoolTHE murmurs of a potential switch from Anfield to the Emirates for want away striker Luis Suarez were originally treated with disdain. The Uruguayan has made it clear that the belligerent treatment he has been given by the English press has left him feeling somewhat disconsolate.

These words provided most fans with the idea that, although unfortunately a move away from Liverpool was inevitable, a move abroad was definitive.

Nevertheless, recently, Arsenal’s interest in Suarez has ignited to the point of an official bid being lodged. £30 million, despite being significantly south of the club’s valuation, indicates that Arsene Wenger’s desire to get his hands on the exasperating yet talented Uruguayan is unequivocal.

The offer was rejected outright, however, sources close to the Gunners suggest that a second big is forthcoming; yet more substance to a determination to secure the signature of Liverpool’s star man. Suggestions have been made from reputable sports writers that Luis Suarez has spoken to his agent in order to determine the true profundity of Arsenal’s interest.

Although unconfirmed, if these reports are true, there may be foundations for a potential transfer that would trump any deals Liverpool have ever been involved in, in terms of pure shock value.

Putting to one side the more merciless Liverpool supporters, the majority of fans would not begrudge Luis Suarez a move to a top European club. The Uruguayan is, quite simply, outstanding and the Champions League would be strengthened with his involvement. That said, if you take into account the reasons he has continuously cited for his exit, a move to a fellow Premier League team would make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Once you have envisaged the outrage of Luis Suarez holding up an Arsenal shirt after he lambasted the English press, you have to wonder to yourself – is a move to Arsenal that much of an elevation from a community that worships his every move and has consistently exonerated him despite a history of indefensible actions?

I understand that Arsenal would provide Luis Suarez with the one thing he craves – Champions League football. Nonetheless, to concur with the thoughts of former Gunners captain Kolo Toure, do Arsenal offer substantially more opportunities for silverware than Liverpool?

Furthermore, do Arsene Wenger’s team, having failed to reach the quarter-finals for the past three seasons, pose a genuine threat in the competition to the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid? Just two of the teams Suarez would be capable of making an impact at across Europe.

If you need clarification about the ambitions of Arsenal – ask Robin Van Persie. Ask Cesc Fabregas. Even ask the likes of Alex Song, Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor. All six of those players left the Emirates despite consistent Champions League qualification in order to enhance their opportunities of success.

Despite this piece being that of opinion, the facts are there for all to see. Arsenal Football Club hasn’t won a trophy in EIGHT years. To put that into perspective, the last time Arsene Wenger led his side to glory, Twitter was eight months away from its creation.

This is not intended as a comparison article. The concept of this piece is not to try and prove that Liverpool are better than Arsenal – its sole purpose is to contextualise the reasons why a move to the south of England would not bestow Luis Suarez with the opportunity to embellish his career.

The silence from club officials is deafening. The only person that seems to speak of the situation, objectionably, is Suarez himself. Right now, the cure for this scenario is for the Uruguayan to actively seek a transfer by requesting one. Skirting around the issue is assisting nobody and a conclusive attitude is what is required.

He may not feel as though he owes Liverpool Football Club anything, however, without doubt, Luis Suarez owes the fans respect. A move abroad would be mutually accepted by all as those that adore him and can still admire his talents, albeit from afar.

    • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

apparently this arsenal bid of £40,000,001 is very disrespectful and cheeky of arsenal and is bang out of order.would yous liverpool fans care to explain as to how yous come to this conclusion?.for me its a very realistic, fair and generous offer considering the baggage that comes with the unquestioned class.yous are near doubling what yous paid for him, just hearing that hes been given permision to speak to us as he like us want this sorted asap.i reckon £40,000,002 should close the deal and we can get our teeth into some trophies.thankyou.
