Life after Luis

LFC Uruguay WILL he stay or will he go? That’s the question on many a fan’s mind, whether they support Liverpool Football Club or not. The past few weeks have been anything but settled at Anfield as the Reds seek to bolster their squad and make a push for the top four.

There was once a time when the Liverbird was a symbol of stability, but that time has since passed. Liverpool have found themselves languishing outside of the top-four on a seemingly regular basis. These lacklustre performances are not what the club have prided themselves on and they certainly not what the fans expect.

Brendan Rodgers and company have been busy already this offseason trying to correct the mistakes made during previous years. The early signings of Kolo Toure, Iago Aspas, Luis Alberto, and Simon Mignolet have ensured that the Reds will not fall prey to deadline day as they have in years past.

So far void of big names, the potential arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan has done plenty to excite Liverpool fans. Facing stiff competition from the likes of Tottenham, Anzhi, and Dortmund, Liverpool have their work cut out for them in signing the young, attacking midfielder.

Although the signing of the Armenian may poise a formidable challenge, Liverpool’s biggest transfer market success could be in regards to Luis Suarez.

The topsy-turvy saga that has become the Uruguayan’s time at Liverpool appears to be reaching a fever pitch. With the well-reported courtship by Real Madrid it appears that Suarez’s days at Liverpool could be numbered, barring an unforeseen string of events.

For some, Liverpool would best be served if they cashed in on the player and used the funds to invest in a number of other players that could share the load vacated by Suarez. For others, a player the calibre of Suarez’s cannot be replaced and should be held on to by all costs and then built around as the cornerstone of the club.

Ignoring your personal views for a moment, it is important to imagine what either alternative would be like. Obviously Liverpool are already intending on strengthening the squad regardless of what happens to Luis Suarez. If the Uruguayan stays then these new additions serve as compliments to his footballing genius. Not to mention as makeweights for the suspension he will be serving during the beginning of the season.

Now suppose for a moment he leaves. The one thing immediately missing from the Liverpool squad will be goals. Can Daniel Sturridge stay healthy enough to pick up the slack? Can the new additions pull their own weight and collectively fill the void?

Apart from Real Madrid, where may Luis Suarez end up? One of the more interesting clubs to be linked has been Bayern Munich. Let’s not forget that Bayern have just agreed to let striker Mario Gomez leave, who has a proven record of scoring goals. Perhaps they see Luis as a direct replacement?

Regardless of your personal views, the rest of this summer is certain to be an exciting one. With Liverpool looking more determined than usual lately, it does not appear that their summer activity is over. Add to that the saga that is Luis Suarez’s life and things appear far from over.

We shouldn’t even be talking about this . A great club like Liverpool should not be losing their best players . We have had 6 years of decline under 2 sets of idiot yanks

  • stan howard says:

9 million and shelvey for joe allen – brilliant swap – for Swansea !

  • Johnson Ogolo says:

If I were LFC I would do everything possible to ensure Henrik desire to play for a big club like liverpool comes true by sinking my hands very deep to my pocket to put both the manager and his directors to shame. Pls give this a thought!

  • terry says:

gosh wat a way to put it @stan howard.that joe allen better turn into a xavi for sure this season coz he truly has cost us a lot.im tired of liverpool signing thse weak players – first it was aqua, then joe cole, then carrol, then downing..i sure hope we can be the club smiling all the way to the bank this time if (when) suarez does go.i wudnt mind villa as a direct replcement though, or a swap for callejo, i wud also like benteke but i get the feeling he wud be overpriced.however i do feel lvpl need a leftback and CDM as cover for lucas and the sooner we get downing off our wages the better

  • terry says:

nonetheless rush came n went, daglish came n went, owen came and went, so did torres(in the most painful way) but the club remains the same.who wud have ever thought barca wud make it without ronaldinho n deco n eto’o but there they are- same applies for liverpool. love suarez but after all we been thru and him singing the praises of madrid i think its best he goes(unless ofcourse he changes his mind)

  • Brendan Rodgers says:

Suarez is rubbish . I will replace him with Danny Graham as I am the world’s best manager and I know best.

  • Higgs Boson says:

To address the question, well, it’s hard to know at this stage whether he’ll stay or go, but I think he will go.
There is a surprising lack of interest from other clubs in the media. The only reason I can see for this are the bans he tends to pick up which could be annoying to the gereral plans of any manager or else it’s just common knowledge in the football circle he’s agreed a deal with Madrid. If this is the case then Madrid will probably play their usual dirty game and wait until the last moment in order to force the price down.

  • femi aina says:

may God of succker lift us,wateva anytin that happen

  • red says:

Actually “strengthening the squad” means adding better players or replacing poorer players with the better ones.

Mignolet for Reina = weakening the squad

Aspas + Alberto for Suarez = weakening the squad

    Toure for Carragher = neutral

In summary, LFC without Suarez will be a complete disaster.

    • An Opinion says:

The same disaster as it was after Torres left?

      • Jack says:

We were a top club back then with a top well respected manager. Now we have NO chance of attracting a top replacement .

    • terry says:

reina wants to go back home and play for his darling club barca- Reinas choice- BR just working with wat he has here and for a club dats been out of CL u cant expect him to replace reina with casillas now can u?for me mignolet was the next best thing we cud possibly get!

suarez wants to play for almighty real which he admires so much dat he sings about them all the way from brazil- again Suarez choice- wat u expect BR to do??keep not only a disgruntled player, but a disgruntled Suarez??dat guy with his controversies cud even score own goals to force thru a move n i wudnt be surprised!the suarez money will buy a striker who will player alongside mkhitaryan, coutinho and sturridge at ver least!

Carragher retired, Toure is an experienced leader(not a Scoucer ofcourse) but he still has atleast a year..besides BR mention he is yet to bring in another DEF

in summary, Ajax made after they lost Luis, so can we!He is good but if man utd cud make it without cristiano, then y cant we make it without a player who has a six mach ban before the season even begins?who knows wat else has instore, punching a ref perhaps or a jail sentence- bottomline, get over it- he is good but it aint 9/11 if he goes!

      • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

if man utd cld make it without cr7 then y cant we make it without ls7?
Man utd had a coach by whom the league fears to be “sir alex ferguson” we have one brendan rodgers.
Man u had rooney, nani, ashley cole, evra etc at their peak, we have borini, allen, alberto, kolo etc.
there are other reasons but am sure dont want me to mention them all.

    • Dennis says:

I agree with you red. This squad is going backwards

    • Ozred says:

      Why even post that?

You’ve selectively assumed aspas and Alberto as a replacement for Suarez but completely ignored the reality that a) we r very close to bringing in mkhytarian or an equivalent to strengthen mid field and b) if Suarez does go, we will have 40 million to spend on someone to replace him.

Alberto and aspas should be seen as nothing other than new additions to the squad. If anything as a replacement for shelvey.

    • Ozred says:

Mignolet on par with raina but more room for improvement

      Aspas > shelvey

      Alberto > nothing

Toure at least on par with carra

Mkhytarian or equivalent 25m purchase > 1000000 times better than nothing

Benteke, lukaku, villa etc not the same as Suarez but whoever we bring in is a fair chance to be a world class player.

The net result is that we r miles in front of the squad at the end of last season and even further in front of the rabble that started 12 months ago.

Great work br. Let the good times roll!!!

      • Paul LFC says:

Typical. Just goes to show yanks and aussies know feck all about football. Totally clueless

      • TaintlessRed says:

Oz, I agree with your comments on aspas, Alberto and mkhitaryan (I think it’s barely 50/50 he comes). But Reina is much better than Mignolet and an replacement we can afford for Suarez is a step down. Suarez is in a small group of players just below Messi and Ronaldo.

  • terry says:

life after suarez- basically u dnt try to replace him with another suarez coz its damn near impossible to get a player like dat without CL football to offer or the pockets of funds dat monaco offer- we just change approach dats all.whereas our play was built around luis last season, we build our play around coutinho and (i believe he is coming) Henrick Mkhitaryan and maybe Sturridge by bringing in atleast two players as replacement 1) a good winger who can open up defences from the right n create chances aswell as score goals and 2) a number 9 with pace who can finish off the chances dat gerrard, mkhitaryn, coutinho and sturridge will create for him….if business is done we, then we myt still have a bit of cash from the suarez sale to strength CDM and LB positions aswell as CB then we good to go! arsenal sold RvP and Song and bought Giroud, Carzola, and Podolski to play with the quality dat they had left in arteta and wilshere etc and it also allowed theo to sort of shine- colour me optimistic but i dnt see y we cant do the same with $50m of suarez money plus $18m of carroll plus $25m of FSG money plus the deadwood we going to sell.CL or not,we still LFC,5times European Champions and 18time league winners to say the least- ask coutinho, sturridge and Mkhitaryan about it, they will tell u we still worth their talent

  • Ozred says:

Not going over the realities of last summer as the simplicity of of what happened is clearly too difficult for the br haters to acknowledge / understand.

Looking at things as they r today, we start the season with a far better squad than last season.

The additions of aspas, Alberto, mignolet, and toure far outweigh the losses of Carroll, shelvey and carra.

It would be hard to argue that raina had a better season than mignolet and the reality is that raina is a far cry from the player 3 or 4 seasons ago. We don’t lose anything by replacing raina with mignolet IF raina does go based on recent performances.

We r also yet to add mkhytarian or his equivalent which will come regardless of Suarez staying or going. Another massive addition to the team.

So this year we start without carra, sahin, shelvey and possibly raina. But include continuo, Sturridge, Alberto, aspas, mignolet, toure and mkhytarian (or equivalent). Miles in front of same time last year.

If Suarez stays. Great. If he goes, provided the money is reinvested into another quality striker we will still be right up there in terms of the quality of our squad. 40m gets u something good. The only way 40m doesn’t buy u something world class is if kenny is buying…

Top 4 is 100% on the cards and I won’t be surprised if we push even higher. Also looking forward to a lot of the haters apologising in 6 months time. The revolution is on. Time to get behind your club.. Ynwa

  • Dennis says:

Only a complete delude with no understanding of football could think we will get a top 4 finish. With the incompetence of Rodgers and only average players brought in so far ..it’s not going to happen

As for Saurez , we can’t afford to lose him and if he goes then Rodgers will just buy more tat instead of real quality

    • God says:

And I suppose you were spouthing the same dribble last Jan when Coutinho and Sturridge arrived.

    • Ozred says:

Ahh good comment tool. Even though after the new additions in January our results were that of a top 4 club… An inconvenient fact that doesn’t suit your sook argument.

  • Nigel says:

Luis saved our season last year virtually singlehanded . BR would have had us bottom half if it wasn’t for Luis. So for everyones same we better keep him .

  • liam says:

Life after Luis is grim. Irreplaceable in my opinion. Every season we seem to lose our best players , and we are getting worse and worse

  • Mikkyslim says:

Am truly disappointed in some of the comments here. Before there was Suarez dia is a team called liverpool wt history of legendry achievement far more than Suarez has done for us this season and his gone there will many coming throu d liverpool door. so to suggest that we are done without him is highly embarrasin. Rememba dia was once one Torres who we had depend upon but where is he today. we cant kip a player who doznt luv u anymore.

  • Liam says:

Please stay Suarez. You put in 110% in every match you play. You also make other players step up a gear when you play too..

    Here’s hoping
