Henry: Suarez going nowhere

LFCLIVERPOOL FC’s principal owner John W Henry has finally put to bed all the rumours about Luis Suarez leaving Anfield to join Arsenal.

In a frank and forthright interview give in The Telegraph newspaper, John W Henry describes the possibility of selling Luis Suarez to Arsenal as “ludicrous.”

Henry went on to say that Liverpool FC would not even entertain offers from abroad for the wantaway Uruguayan at this stage of the transfer window due to not having the time to sign an adequate replacement.

“We are not going to sell Luis. It’s a football reason. It’s not finances. At this point, so late in window, with everyone who’s already moved or isn’t moving, we do not have time to replace him.

“So for football reasons we can’t – and especially to Arsenal. We’ve made that clear. I have said to Ivan Gazidis in a personal conversation that we will not sell to Arsenal. It is unequivocal, but that doesn’t seem to slow them down so I can’t wait to see what the next bid is.

“We’re not in Europe this year and have not been in the Champions League for a while. To sell to a rival for those Champions League positions, or one of them, would be ludicrous. Whatever the bid is, we won’t sell him. We need Luis. Hopefully this will pass.”

Henry also revealed his disappointment of they way in which football’s undercover transfer deals are done, whereby supposed confidential issues are leaked, in light of Arsenal’s strangely specific bid for Suarez:

“It should have been confidential, so absolutely it concerns me,” said Henry. “How does a club that doesn’t have permission to speak with your player see his contract?

“Unfortunately, it’s the way it works in football. People don’t speak about it publicly but that’s the way it’s run. It’s how things are done. I don’t think there’s a point reporting Arsenal because it just seems to happen everywhere, throughout football.”

Liverpool’s principle owner also gave fans hope of new signings and also said that qualifying for the Champions League is Liverpool’s aim for this season:

“This club can’t not be in the Champions League,” he said. “It needs to be playing in Europe. It needs to be playing in the Champions League. That’s what Liverpool Football Club is about.”

Lol least ambitious move he could have made…. wonder why he hasn’t moved forward with any infrastructure? Guess he wants a quick return? Who owns LFC again, JW or the people of Liverpool?

Idiotic question – the owners are Fenway.
Agreed, the delay in getting the stadium moving is frustrating, but perhaps they need Champions League to help fund it?

It would be nice if journalists could learn to spell – it’s “principal” not “principle”. If you’re not fully literate, you shouldn’t be allowed to write semi-literate junk.

  • Raam says:

Wenger is desperate to sign Suarez cause all his other targets are snapped up by other clubs. He concerntrated on LS too much that others slipped. Now he is scared if he dont get this last remaining target, when the season starts it wont be rabbit or duck season at Emirates, it will be Wenger season.

  • Brigadier says:

More Henry bull. Why was Torres sold to a CL rival a few years ago? Exactly the same arguement, Luis/Fernando both wanted out to join a CL London club, Torres was allowed to go but Luis isnt. Doesnt make any sense.

  • realist says:

Henry says he won’t be sold . Anyone really stupid enough to believe him ?
