LFC defenderLIVERPOOL defender Martin Kelly believes that he is ‘six to eight weeks away’ from fully recovering from a long-term knee injury, ESPN has revealed.

Kelly played a full 90 minutes on Monday as the Liverpool under 21s beat Manchester United 4-2 – the first time the 23 year old has been able to do so for 11 months.

As one of the three overage players permitted in the team, Kelly was given the captaincy for the clash but has now set his sights on bouncing back into Liverpool’s first team side.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Kelly said:

“It was good to get the first 90 minutes under my belt after so long, I played last week in a behind closed doors friendly but to get 90 minutes for the U21s was superb for me and my fitness.

“I just want to get as many games in as I can. I missed so much last season and it’s difficult mentally coming back from 11 months out and knowing you are not where you were last pre-season, because I started the last pre-season flying and that’s where I want to get back to.

“It’s all the hard work that starts now and in the next six to eight weeks I should get back to that fitness.”

Kelly suffered cruciate knee ligament damage early last season on September 23rd against Manchester United, and was out of action for the Liverpool first team until a 9th minute cameo in the Reds’ first friendly game this season against Preston in July.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Even if Main Kelly were six hours from full fitness, it would not have mattered. It’s not like he can change any game with a moment of individual brilliance. In fact, he is not much better than the hoofer aka so-called footballer who recently retired.

    • j75j says:

That’s because he’s a centre half who can stop players individual brilliance and save the club millions in transfer fees and Carragher was brilliant at centre half with Hypia you moron!!!

    • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

you didnt watch carragher long enough….you started at 35…… he is not an agger type of defender but he is very good defender.

If Kelly continues o build up his fitness for himself and the team it would benefit Liverpool. BR would have more options to choose from should one of his senior players got injured or failed to perform.

  • Kilasho says:

News Bot, if you’re not a LFC supporter we are politely asking you not to disrespect our former or current players. We are like a family here, brothers argue but its a family matter. We will not tolerate others talk bad about anyone over here. Got it!?

  • FSG Out says:

Brenda cant coach defenders, Agger made a mug of himself conceding that penalty agsinst Stoke, turned away from the ball and handballed it. Mignolet was also flapping at thing the whole match. Wait for the predictable meltdown under Brenda. Kelly will be wasted under this amateur manager
