LiverpoolLIVERPOOL defender Jose Enrique has admitted that he is relishing the competition for his position following the arrival of loan signing Aly Cissokho, according to Sky Sports.

Cissokho arrived at Anfield on a season-long loan from Spanish club Valencia, with Reds’ boss Brendan Rodgers wanting to provide competition for Liverpool’s current left-back Enrique.

Enrique, an ex-Newcastle defender, has no problems with Rodgers bring Cissokho to the club and has focused on maintaining his first team slot.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Enrique said of Cissokho’s arrival:

“I welcome the competition, if Liverpool sign another left-back then I understand it because it was just me here last season.

“Sometimes Glen Johnson had to play left-back. We need two players for every position, and I like it when I have competition. If you have somebody there who is really fighting for your position then it can bring more out of you because you know if you don’t play well then you’ll lose your place.

“Hopefully that helps me and I can play at my level as I did in the first six months when I first arrived at Liverpool.”

Cissokho’s most beneficial spell was at French club Lyon, where he notched over 90 appearances between 2009 and 2012 and even bagged a goal.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
