Uruguay defenderLIVERPOOL FC and Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates faces up to six months out injured.

The news, reported by the Daily Mirror amongst others, Coates could be ruled out for up to six months with a cruciate ligament injury is a blow to Brendan Rodgers and his plans to move the giant Uruguayan on during this transfer window.

It may also force Rodgers to move back into the transfer market with long term target Tiago Ilori of Sporting Lisbon still very much an option.

However, with Liverpool still looking to sell before they buy again, the news of the defender’s injury could not have come at a worse time.

Coates first picked up the injury playing for Uruguay against Japan during the friendly game last week, yet another player injured in a meaningless game.

Coates was linked with a move to fellow Premiership club Fulham earlier in the summer but any move appears to be off until January at the earliest now.

The tall defender has found appearances hard to come by since he was signed by then manager Kenny Dalglish, making only six Premier League starts and scoring the one goal, that great over-head kick against QPR.

Liverpool will hope the Uruguayan can make a speedy and full return to full fitness before the new year.
