Have FSG and Rodgers earned your respect yet?

LFC manager strikerBRENDAN Rodgers was never going to have an easy time of it when he was appointed Liverpool FC manager.

Against the backdrop of another disappointing end to a league campaign and with the King of the Kop being unceremoniously dumped by owners FSG, most Reds fans were anticipating a world-famous name to be appointed as the new man in charge; somebody who’s stature in the game could match that of the club – somebody who’s CV demanded respect.

Although respect should always be earned, without a CV to fall back on when the results failed to meet expectations, Rodgers knew he’d have a lot to do to convince some of the most passionate and knowledgeable supporters in the world.

Once a fairly mundane initial transfer window was offset by the fantastic January signings, positivity began to flow, and an excellent second half to the season had Reds fans licking their lips in anticipation of the new campaign.

The jury is still out on the men who now run this great club, but regardless of your thoughts on FSG, they have to be respected for their handling of the Luis Suarez affair this summer, and the way they treated Arsenal with the contempt they deserved.

Brendan Rodgers may now have also earned some respect, no matter how begrudgingly, guiding the Reds to two victories out of two at the start of this new Premier League season, all without his star striker, but with his signing, Daniel Sturridge, the main protagonist in the Liverpool wins.

Has Rodgers changed your initial views on him and earned any more of your respect?

Respect is a bit of a watch word right now, whether that’s fans giving players and managers more respect or players giving referees more respect, but across all levels of the game, the FA are trying to ensure that bad behaviour is stamped out.

In view of this, the FA has launched a new advert to remind people about the importance of Respect in our national game. The film looks at the potential of ‘corrective’ technology – think ED209 from Robocop – to deal with the problems of raging touchline parents, the loss of referees, foul mouthed players or abusive managers.

The Respect programme was launched in 2008 and although there is much still to do, after five seasons across all levels of football on field discipline has improved, assaults on referees have fallen, 5,000 more match officials have been recruited and the environment of children’s football has improved.

I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.
Having played football all my life, I aim to continue longer than Stanley Matthews...

Only a totally naive delude would respect fenways . They are hicks + gillet – only with added smarm . They should be forced out.
    Spirit of shankly save us.

I only start to respect them if FSG and BR could bring us back to Champions League this season. Anything short of that NO.

At the start of last season most Liverpool fans, including me, had optimism and were willing to support Rodgers. Brendan turned a lot of fans away by poor signings in that summer, our worst start for 100 years, and some ridiculous un-Liverpool like comments I’m the media.

He misjudged players without giving them adequate opportunity, sided with his pet players regardless of form or impact, and regularly was out thought by opposition managers of other clubs in the top half of the table. This all resulted in us being knocked out of all cup competitions far too early in I’m done cases embarrassing fashion, abd a very mediocre league finish.

However in the second half of the season he began to show personal improvement. Helped by 2 key signings, he got the team selection more right than wrong, toned down his eulogising a touch (though still too much for my liking) and was willing to be more flexible with his tactics.

At the start of this season he shown further learning and I think we’ve benefited from it. Allen has played just 7 minutes, we didn’t hold an unnaturally high line against the pacey Villa attack, and he played some senior players against lowly Notts County (if we hadn’t we’d have probably lost that game – although it obviously shouldn’t ever have been as close as it was).

Our inability to make a marquee signing is in large part due to 1) no European football of any kind which us Rodgers failing 2) no Champions league which is the responsibility of many individuals (administrators, former managers & players) & 3) Rodgers being an unknown to foreign players as he has no track record of success, which is down to Rodgers (although he us in the early part of his managerial career) & FSG, who plumped for him over experienced managers.

I think FSG and Rodgers both need to continue to improve. They will only get respect when it is earned. And at this club that means bring near the top of the table, winning trophies.

      Totally agree.
The owners want a bigger stadium, but without European football and the income it generates – the place will be empty!
They need to invest on the pitch first and the bigger stadium will happen.

Neither FSG and Rodgers have earned any respect so far …and I don’t think they ever will

It’s becoming more and more obvious that the only route back to the top is for FSG to go…they must pur the club up for sale

  • Jack says:

    Fsg need to go

  • Max says:

Our Marquee signing is Victor Moses on Loan !!! Yipppiiiiiiiiiiii!!

This proves we dont have no money.

  • patrick says:

Difficult to respect a man who has achieved nothing and who loves himself so much

And as for FSG ? Your joking right ? No true Liverpool fan respects them
