A new Dane at Anfield?

LFC target EriksenREGARDLESS of the volume of goals the squad has produced this season, there is still something lacking. After the goalless draw against West Ham and Stewart Downing’s early substitution, that ‘something’ is as evident as ever.

Liverpool are lacking in options and in creativity, especially in the middle of the pitch, never mind their defensive frailties for now.

A little more than a month remains in the season and then the staff at Liverpool can put all their attention into addressing these needs. One name that has been linked with Liverpool for what seems like eternity is that of Christian Eriksen.

The young Dane has shown great potential and is considered by many to be one of the most exciting up-in-comers in midfield. The Ajax man is certain to command a substantial fee and a plethora of big clubs are reportedly chasing his signature. This being said, it would benefit the powers that be at Liverpool if they make a serious attempt at signing the young star as he could inject immediate quality into the side.

The addition of Coutinho in January has been promising but the versatility he has shown leads one to believe that there is no reason why Eriksen and Coutinho couldn’t be deployed on the pitch together. Coutinho’s ability to work out wide would create space in the middle of the pitch that Eriksen could exploit with precision.

Some may argue that Eriksen wouldn’t be interested in coming to a side void of Champions League football, however there are some encouraging signs. Eriksen played alongside Suárez when he first broke into the Ajax side so there is some familiarity between the two playmakers. Also, perhaps the biggest advantage is the presence of Daniel Agger, Eriksen’s captain at the national level.

As Liverpool move forward and try and regain their position among footballing elite, players such as Eriksen are of the quality that they should be seriously pursuing. At only 21 years of age the Danish midfielder has plenty of years ahead of him and plenty of room for improvement.

This summer should prove to be an exciting one for Liverpool fans. With the addition of a player like Eriksen that excitement may be immeasurable.

once again AI I have to comment on your ridiculous comment you absolute gimp. It’s not Football manager you know, what do you think will happen if they changed 9 players in the starting 11??? I’ll tell you what, QPR will happen.

  • Julian says:

All fans seem to act like their playing football manager. 9 out 11 changes won’t happen in squad less likely the team. Appears that initial budget will be £20 million before sales. Chelsea still owe us £15 million for Torres. We are hoping to get £17 million for Carroll. If you follow Rodgers mind set, Skrtel looks like a saleable asset. Carragher has already mentioned two centre halves are coming in. And Rodgers says he expects 3-4 players of real quality. But at least 3 choices for each position he wants covered. I think 4 players will come in. Two centre halves. Midfielder and attacking player. I expect Reina to stay but he may be pressurised by a better no 2 than Jones. Then I see 5 additions if we get another keeper.

  • Julian says:

To add to my above comment. The problem with buying in all our players is blocking the route to first team for talented youngsters. Players like Suso Sterling Wisdom and Kelly need one or two years to break through. And there are more coming. The likes of Coady, Sinclair , Ibe and Morgan. I watched a talented arsenal u21 team beaten by our Liverpool u21 last night. We are currently second behind Spurs in the league. Our U18 are in youth cup semi finals. The Fenway group have asked Rodgers to transform academy staff and players to bring youth through system. This has to be our future. Otherwise we need to pray for new owners who have bigger pockets. We can’t all have Abramovich.

    • Shanklys_sons says:

It was in fact Houllier who revamped the Academy and Rafa who took it to another level with former Barca coaches like Borrell and Segura.

BR is just continuing the work that had already been done.

The positives we have achieved under BR is lowering the budget for the squad and the average age.

A good transfer window can really see us
climb up the table next season as long as we sort out out strength in depth and fix our defensive frailities.

Buying young, promising players are good but we need to get the shape and balance right. Experience is also vital!

  • AussieScouser says:

Last season, Liverpool competed with Ajax for the signing of Assaidi. He arrived with a good reputation n supposed abilty but unfortunately he has failed to shine. Maybe he could be a part of the player n cash transfer for eriksen

    • Shanklys_sons says:

Once Lucas regains his fitness levels he is one of the best DFM in the prem. Selling him would be madness. Likewise Henderson will at the very least become a good utility player. Enrique while not always consistent is quite a solid player so I won’t be too hasty with him either.

  • alex says:

I don’t know how some people think,a midfield comprising of Gerrard,Alonso ??? Eriksen…………….who will do the defensive work?
Lucas on the bench for Eriksen?

    • Shanklys_sons says:

United don’t have a class DMF and sometimes play Carrick in the holding role behind attacking players. They don’t always play Anderson for example.

Arsenal likewise play Wilshere and Arteta who aren’t DMF.

What we need to do is have a player that can build from the back and circulate the play.

Lucas is a converted DMF but very good at what he does.

Its no good now just having players that can just tackle.

A player like Ericksen can be seen as Gerrard’s eventual successor.

But if we were to incorporate all of them it is possible in a 4-1-3-1-1, 4-2-3-1 for example.

We can be flexible dependin on our opponents. One thing I will like BR to do is diversify.

  • Bala Joseph says:

Lucas not going anywhere. you who says Lucas out should stop supporting Liverpool.
only Carrol out and all those 5 in.

  • You heard says:

I want glen Johnson out. He is useless…. Doesn’t play defense and his offense has been down right awful. We would fetch a good price for him – he isn’t getting any younger.

  • Shanklys_sons says:

Johnson has been poor an a lot of it has to do with Kelly being injured and having no one to rotate or challenge his position.

  • Denis D says:

The main and huge problem is Rodgers needs to ship out 8 dead wood players from club this summer, three of them are already out on loan.

And then the owners need to back B Rodgers heavily with £95-£105M to bring in 12 players between this summer and the January transfer window:

As Rodgers shipped out 12 players(Adams,Aquilani,Aurelio,Bellamy,Carroll,Cole, Doni,Kuyt,Ngoo, Rodriguez, Spearing and Wilson) since his reign to clear wage bill and has only brought in 5 players (Allen, Assaidi, Borini, Coutinho and Sturridge)

8 Players who need to be shown door in summer: Dead wood/ Average players:

1: GK: Jones 2: RB: Flanagan 3: CB: Coates 4: CB: Wilson

5: DM: Spearing 6: RW: Assaidi 7: FD: Borini 8: FD: Carroll

    9 Players need in summer: Cost= £42-£65M

    Defensive Players:

1: GK:M Vorm(29) Of Swansea for £2-£4M to compete and Cover Reina

2:CB: A Williams(28) Of Swansea for £7-£10M to compete and Cover with Skrtel

3:CB: Sakho Of PSG for £7-£11M to compete and Cover Agger

4: CB: A Pearce(24) Of Reading on Free transfer to compete with every centre back at club

5: DM: E Capoue(24) Of Toulouse for £6-£10M to compete and Cover LUCAS.

    Attacking Players:

6: CM: De Guzman (25) Of Villareal for £4-£6M to compete with Allen, Gerrard and Henderson.

7: D Capel(25) Of Sporting Clube De Portugal/ Sporting Lisbon for £4-£7m to
    compete and Cover Downing.

8: C Eriksen(21) Of Ajax for £12-£17M to compete with Coutinho and Shelvey for the AM position at club.

9: B Arfa(25) Of Newcastle should be brought to club in swap deal with A Carroll(23) and £10M , so he can compete with Sterling for RW position.

    January Signings: Cost= £25-£40M

    Defensive Players:

10:LB: A Cissokho(25) Of Valencia for £4-£7M to compete and Cover Enrique

    Attacking players:

11: RW / RWF: J Montero(23) Of Monarcas Morelia for £3-£7M to compete with Sterling and Arfa.

12: FD: C Benteke(22) Of A Villa or Higuain(25) Of Real Madrid , one of these strikers should be brought to club in january for £18-£26M to compete with Sturridge and Suarez at club

  • REDman27 says:

    Rubbish

    • Denis D says:

Redman are you a crack head or what?
We are where we are as our club needs huge investment in playing staff, do you think the Tottenham H Redknapp took over which was in bottom three when he took over 4 years ago which has now always challenging for top 4 places every year is that way for no reason? in Redknapps time there he brought in 15-19 players and shipped 8-10 players over those years and look at them. He just brought in alot of bargain buys on the way

About rubbish, were losing year in year out to teams like west brom and A Villa and teams like Southampton, we used to be competing with United, Arsenal and Chelsea for Top 4 every year. But the last five years we are competing with Everton, Fulham and Stoke for a top 6-10 position. That is rubbish, our club should be in top 4 and until some major surgery is completed to team/playing squad it won’t be happening. Club has lost out on £100m over five years without champions league football and next year will be 6th year without it, which will take us to the £120M mark.

  • REDman27 says:

Get Messi and Ronaldo. Alonso and Mata. Job done LFC top 4 all day long.

    • Denis D says:

      Red man i am realistic,

Do you think Newcastle would be the side they are without all the players they have brought to club in last two years? BA, Cisse, Arfa, Cabaye, Santon, Haidara, Goufran, Sissoko, Debuchy.

Thats 9 players and i am sure Pardew will bring more in summer and there is more i have missed he has brought to club since he took over.

When H Redknapp was at Tottenham he brought: Cudicini, Bassong, Crouch, Kaboul, Walker, Chimbonda, Defoe, Sandro, Keane, Parker, Van der Vaart and many others to their club. And made them the side they are today. So you saying rubbish, you ain’t got a scooby doo about football.

Either you spend ridiculous amount of money and get your team back to top, or you spend a reasonable amount of money on class, quality players but in bulk and change whole squad dimension
