Philippe Coutinho holds his shoulder after damaging the joint in Liverpool's 2-2 draw at SwanseaBBC Sport understands that Liverpool’s Brazilian starlet, Philippe Coutinho, is set to undergo a shoulder operation and will be out of action until late October.

Coutinho, who arrived in January from Inter Milan, has played his part in propelling the Reds to the top of the table in the early stages of this Premiership campaign, with 3 wins out of 4.

The 21 year old was withdrawn from the field when he suffered the injury, after a collision with Swansea defender Ashley Williams, on Monday, in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

The club have confirmed that Coutinho will require surgery, a statement saying:

“It’s been decided Coutinho will now have surgical stabilisation on the AC joint in his shoulder, Liverpool hope he will be back in contention again towards the end of October”.

Coutinho’s estimated time out of action means that he will miss Brendan Rodgers’ side’s league clashes with Southampton, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Brom. He will also miss out when Liverpool take on Manchester United in their League Cup tie next week, although fellow South American Luis Suarez is set to make his return to the side, having served his 10 match ban  for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic last season.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

6 weeks. Nearly as long as 10 matches. Cant afford to panic. We should have prepared for this kind of situations early. So,this is the moment for the likes of Luis Alberto, Aspas and R.Sterling to show what they are made of. LFC must show that they are not over depending on Coutinho’s services.

Maybe old #8 can step into an attacking role for one last month or two? Although Alberto picked a fine time for an U21 hat trick. He at least earned a look in Coutihno’s spot.
    Maybe even Suarez.

Yea stephen G should be able to do dere but 4 d Albato I won’t subscribe to that idea as we nid to win every match we play and d worse result should always be draw even suares could fit in# so many option only that we have to be dynamic and show the whole world that liv isn’t a one man club
