LIVERPOOL manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that controversial striker Luis Suarez is ‘champing at the bit’ to play for Liverpool following his lengthy ban for biting, according to Sky Sports News.
Suarez has been included in the Reds’ squad for their third round Capital One Cup clash against Manchester United on Wednesday, having completed a 10 match ban that was slapped on him last season for biting Chelsea defender, Branislav Ivanovic, on the arm.
Rodgers will name his final squad in the next 24 hours, and the Northern Irishman made it abundantly clear how important Suarez’s return would be for both the Uruguayan and the club as a whole.
Speaking about Suarez’s ban ending, Rodgers said:
“It has been a really difficult time for him not playing games, how he has prepared himself over the last number of weeks has been fantastic. He’s really champing at the bit to help the team.
“Everyone knows the depth of his quality and his attitude. Once he gets back on the field again, he will show what he has shown since he’s been here.”
The biting incident is not the first time Suarez has been in hot water in England. In October 2011 the 26 year old was alleged to have racially abused Manchester United’s Patrice Evra and was given an 8 match ban.
