Manchester-United-vs-LiverpoolTHE third round of the Capital One Cup takes place this week and will feature some of the biggest clashes of the competition so far.

Having met four times before in various guises of the Cup, Manchester United and Liverpool will once again go head-to-head at Old Trafford, with both looking to regain some momentum after last weekend’s losses in the Barclays Premier League.

Elsewhere West Bromwich Albion will be aiming to nullify the threat of German superstar Mesut Ozil when they welcome Arsenal to The Hawthorns. The stats don’t favour Albion though as they have gone three years without a win against Arsene Wenger’s men, which combined with Arsenal’s strong away form (10 consecutive wins) makes it a daunting challenge.

One of the other picks of the night is Newcastle v Leeds at St James’ Park, a match the home side will be expecting to win having lost only once in the past ten encounters. Birmingham will also host Swansea City and Tranmere will face Stoke at Prenton Park in the other fixtures on Wednesday.

Jimmy Areabi (Editor) - @fantasista1077: Huyton raised like Steven Gerrard, football has been my passion since the time I received a Kenny Dalglish badge as a toddler, and I've followed the Reds ever since – something that was easier during the 80s, when I worshipped John Barnes! I've produced work for many football media outlets & am now happy to run a major site on the club I love - providing our fans with a voice, and to bring as much information and news on the club as possible.
Having played football all my life, I aim to continue longer than Stanley Matthews...
