LiverpoolIN an interview with The Liverpool Daily Post, Reds skipper Steven Gerrard urged his team to keep up the good form they have shown since the start of the 2013/14  Barclays Premier League season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side moved up to second place in the table and just two points off leaders Arsenal after a comfortable 3-1 away at Sunderland over the weekend.

Gerrard has urged the team to be near the top of the tree come Christmas time and the opening of the January transfer window.

Will Liverpool taking thirteen points from their opening six games, the Reds have made their best start to a season since finishing second in the 2008/09 season.

The skipper was quoted as saying:

“Everyone is taking points off one another and I’m sure other teams are taking note that we are a threat to them.

“But to be honest, I’m not too bothered about what people are saying about us. I know what this team is capable of.

“The main thing for us is to keep fighting and show that we are capable of staying in these positions to around Christmas time and then we will see where that takes us. The only way we will do that is by winning games.

“It’s very important that we get ourselves into a good position because there is nothing worse than going into the New Year having left yourself too much to do.”

I think if we 4th or 5th come January, Fsg should invest in 2 top class players… I’d luv to see some1 like Lucas Moura or Javier Pastore and Youhan Cabaye for Midfield.. That could push us to the next Level. Maybe challenge for the league title.

early days but best to be near the top than the bottom. regarding gerrard’s comments about rodgers playing the youngsters…….yes he did LAST SEASON! he’s lost his nerve this season regarding playing them that’s for sure. kelly, wisdom, sterling and ibe are warming the bench this season. and if we’re still near the top come january these 4 will remain on the bench because there will be too much to play for over the remaining months. the cheque book will come………etc, etc. need i go on?

Agree that it is still early days. Liverpool should continue to focus on the game one at a time. Continue to take maximum points. By end of December we should know where we stand. We should give the new recruits and youngsters more playing time as it will help them in their career development. We definitely need reinforcements in January to strengthen the team. Hope FSG will finance Liverpool on that.

Gerrard must talk less and focus on own performance. Your stamina is not so good.

Gerrard never learned the lesson of counting your chickens before they’re hatched, once again getting carried away over a handful of games.
