LiverpoolLiverpool’s defensive starlet Andre Wisdom is set to join Championship side Derby County on loan for the rest of this season, after finding his opportunities to feature for the Reds limited this season.

Newly appointed Derby manager, Steve McClaren, had set his sights on procuring a defender and approached the club about Wisdom, whose versatility means he can operate efficiently at both right back and centre back, last weekend.

McClaren needed to bolster his defensive ranks, after losing Leicester loanee, Zak Whitbread, to a calf strain, during Derby’s 3-2 victory against Watford on  Sunday.

Wisdom, who joined Liverpool’s youth ranks from Bradford in 2008, and who now represents England at an U-21 level, initially forced his way through the ranks and actually garnered some first team appearances last season.

However, since then, he has seen his Reds career take a severe dip, playing a mere three games this season, with just one of those a start – in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Swansea.

The 22 year old has played 22 games for the Liverpool first team so far in his career, but, with the arrival of defensive quartet Aly Cissokho, Kolo Toure, Mamadou Sakho and Tiago Ilori at Anfield, Wisdom has found his opportunities severely limited.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
