November: a month to test our credentials

LFC celebrateIT only seemed like yesterday when Daniel Sturridge fired Liverpool to an opening day victory over Stoke City yet, here we are, on the verge of November, on the peripherals of the ten-game mark, and not far from a third of the way through the season.

Due to the club not participating in any European competitions this season, coupled with the fact that the Reds were knocked out of the early stages of the Capital One Cup, November provides Liverpool with just three fixtures. However, despite the abysmal lack of games, the volume of importance will be cranked up a notch from what we have seen so far.

The three fixtures, in their own right, are huge. Two, in particular, hold significant interest to the Reds. Just two days into November Liverpool face Arsenal away in what will be a true test against, on current form, the Premier League’s best team. Although there will be no doubt that the team will go for the win from the off, most Reds supporters would take a point from this game if it was offered to them from the start. A point would be credible, all three would be magical. It is a game that gives Liverpool the platform to show their grit and determination to grab hold of one of those highly coveted Champions League positions and it is a match that many will look forward to – fans and neutrals.

The fixture sandwiched in between the two stand-out games of the penultimate month of the year is a home tie against Martin Jol’s Fulham. It is the sort of match that Liverpool often struggle to secure all three points in. Too frequently in the past the Reds have dominated such a game and have not capitalised, so, a win against the West London outfit would prove just as vital as a win at the Emirates and in our final November matchday.

Arguably the most important fixture of November sees Brendan Rodgers take his side just across Stanley Park to face Everton. Even the most arduous of Liverpool fan would have to admit that the Blues are a force to be reckoned with this season and will be there or thereabouts in the hunt for the European places come the end of the season. Therefore, with that in mind, an early season victory over our city rivals would be the perfect way to end the month. Unlike the Arsenal game, and rightly so due to our recent record in Derbies, Liverpool fans will want nothing less than all three points from the first Merseyside Derby of the season, however, you have to feel that Everton fans will feel the same way and that will provide the perfect backdrop to what should be a mouth-watering contest.

With no European action for the Reds this year, the team can afford to put all their efforts into their Premier League campaign and November is, for me, the first month that will truly test our credentials to achieve a top-four finish. Our little Brazilian star Philippe Coutinho will make a return to the first-team fold in November and, barring no more injuries, Liverpool should have a strong squad to choose from. That said, the Reds have the best opportunity in recent years to stamp their authority and make their mark on the Premier League in the search for Champions League qualification.

Do you agree that November is arguably our toughest month of the season? Or does it only get harder for the Reds from here on in?

Yeah but with @FSG OUT and @ StevieG we are walking with two less fans on board.

      2nd in the league.

I’m really pleased the owners have brainwashed me, means I can truly enjoy our start to the season.

Otherwise I’d be a miserable sod, really unhappy with how our season is unfolding, like the two aforementioned muppets above.

(i apologize for the mild insult but it’s warranted)

December is our toughest of the season because that is when we face the like of TOT, MAN CITY AND CHELSEA in the space of two weeks.

Agree. But then so too are the rest of the teams. If only Liverpool have enough depth , Liverpool should have no problem in dealing with the tight fixtures.

A win next week at the Emirates takes us to the top of the table, by beating the very best at this point in time. The importance of that can not be understated, it will be a real statement. This win if it happens then can allow us for one slack performance in December. If we slip up against Chelsea or City then we still do not fall far off the pack and won’t have to play catch up like last few seasons.
If only we did better against Swansea and Southampton…

i think nov 2 is fight for no 1… but December is our toughest of the season…
