Seamus-Coleman-challenges-Jose-EnriqueLiverpool have been dealt an hefty injury blow ahead of Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

Left back Jose Enrique reportedly needs an operation on a knee injury which could see the Spaniard out of action for a lengthy spell.

Enrique has missed games recently for the Reds but it was hoped that the fullback would be fit to participate against Everton this weekend. Unfortunately Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Talksport said:

“He’s been struggling for a little while with an injury. He will probably need an operation. It’s a blow for us because he’s a very talented player.”

Enrique has been dealing with the knee injury since before Liverpool played Newcastle back in October and his absence will be felt by his side. Aly Cissokho has deputised at left-back recently but not convinced many people of his ability to start games week in week out.

Rodgers has the option of switching Glen Johnson to the left side where he played for a large chunk of last side and two of his central defenders, Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho, have both filled in at left-back in the past.

No official word has been given on the length of Enrique’s absence but as more information is available we will bring it you.
