LFC youth acadenyACCORDING to numerous reports today Liverpool Football Club has parted company with youth Academy director Frank McParland and the Academy’s technical director/Head of coaching, Rodolfo Borrell.

I must say that this has come out of the blue, as both men who had been in part of the Academy set-up since former manager Rafa Benitez appointed them in 2009. McParland, who had previously served Liverpool as chief scout, was appointed Academy director by Rafa Benitez in the summer of 2009. Two years later he was given the added responsibility of overseeing the running of the reserve team.

Borrell also arrived at Kirkby in 2009 as he began working with the under-18s and then the under-21s. In fact Rodolfo was only promoted to Academy Technical Director earlier this year.

The popular Spaniard boasted an impressive CV having spent 13 years with La Liga giants Barcelona where he helped develop the likes of Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique and Cesc Fabregas.

Under the guidance of Frank and Rodolfo seven academy players made their debuts for the first team last season. Sterling, Kelly and Wisdom are just a few names who have been given the chance to play in the first team.

It will be interesting to see in which direction the Club are going to go in terms of the structure and playing style of the Academy.

I feel that Rafa’s legacy in trying to link both Melwood and Academy together is unraveling fast and this is a backward step as it will take time for whoever comes in to replace McPartland and Borrell to have the effect that both men had on the club.

Liverpool Football Club have refused to comment at this time.

I would love to know your thoughts – have LFC made the right decision in letting McPartland and Borrell go?

Cost cutting, perhaps? It’s typical FSG style.

Rodgers is behind it. He wants more control and power. McParland maybe was having duplicate work but Rodolfo was integral to all the was good about our academy. Furious.

I totally agree . THIS IS A DISGRACE . This is all about Rodgers acting the big “I am “.

This clown is destroying our club …and most fans can’t see it because of a decent start in the league

        FURIOUS X3

This is Rodgers’ doing. He’s benefiting from the young players that Frank and Rodolfo (and Pep segura) brought in and now he’s cutting them off and trying to take the credit. Rodolfo in particular is a huge loss, where on earth would we get anyone as good or experienced. Furious about this. Rodgers was regaining some trust through better results, and now he’s blown it to soothe his ego and power hungry nature. Utterly beyond me how this could be good for LFC? Can’t wait to hear some proper reasons and truth from Rodgers from this. Maybe have yo wait for Echo to fig deeper. Gutted.
