Dear Brendan, all I want for Christmas is…?

AnfieldAFTER the disappointing result at the Emirates on Saturday night, I thought I would try and lighten the mood.

As you know, my articles this season have been mainly on analysis; giving you my opinion and perception of the game Liverpool played that weekend in the league.

This week I want to try something totally different, I would like the readers of Live4liverpool to give me your opinions and ideal scenarios to the following question (just imagine Brendan Rodgers as Santa Claus!)

“Dear Brendan all I want for Christmas is..?”

You may be surprised I am asking you this in November but after all, there is only 48 days till the big day!

However I would like you all to use the comments section at the end of the article for you to tell me your Top 3 answers to the question and the reasons behind them (answers relating to Liverpool please and not what you would like for Christmas!)

This way readers can try and have a healthy debate to see if everyone is thinking along the same lines.

To get you started here are my three (Brendan, I hope you are reading this!)

1. Keep hold of Luis Suarez in the January transfer window and beyond.

2. Purchase a creative midfielder in January.

3. Collect ten points out 12 during the Christmas fixture period.

Now you may be wondering why I selected those as my Top 3 ideal scenarios, so here’s my reasons behind them.

It is paramount that the club  dig their heels in and resist the temptation to accept ANY bids from clubs for our number 7 – like they did in the summer. I know he has had his controversial moments wearing the red of Liverpool but our Luis is the best forward we have had in over 10 years, and we need him and Sturridge to fire us to were the club needs to be and that is the Champions League.

I would like Rodgers to invest in a quality creative midfielder to add more depth to our squad and to give us that cutting edge in a midfield three that Brendan does like to operate during games. Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso would be my choice I have mentioned previously that we miss his passing, drive and creative spark and this would enhance the team.

The beauty of Xabi re-joining the club (miracles do happen, just remember Istanbul) he can play as defensive midfielder as well – operating as a deep lying midfielder would allow Alonso to pull the strings within the midfield and act as a shield to the back four and give stability in that area of the pitch. At times this season and again on Saturday night against Arsenal players could go through our midfield with ease and this is something which needs to be addressed.

Finally, Liverpool play the following four fixtures during the festive period:

21st December: Cardiff at Anfield

26th December: Manchester City at the Etihad

29th December: Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

1st January: Hull at Anfield

It important to take maximum points in three of the four fixtures. If we could win all four and take 12 points it would be fantastic but 10 out of 12 would be great, especially if we are still in the mix in top four positions of the table.

Of course we have tricky away trips to both Manchester City and Chelsea but if we play to our very best we can beat them – we have to believe; after all this season is proving that any team in the league can beat anyone.

I look forward to reading what you have to say.

I am a lifelong Liverpool supporter from Huyton Liverpool just like Stevie G and go all over the world supporting my team I go the games in my wheelchair as I suffer from Cerebral Palsy however that does not stop me having a ball cheering on the World’s Best Team.
I write a weekly column talking about various topics whether that is tactical analysis of matches, opinion pieces, looking through the archives of previous matches, former players and current articles on Brendan and the first team.
It is great being part of the first class writing team at Live4liverpool.com and bucking the trend in being the first woman to write for the site.

I feel for Katie here since she put this up asking people to specifically NOT do what many here have anyway – trash everyone and each other left, right and centre.

Rodgers seems committed to the Liverpool cause and I think he’s displayed some levels of humility in correcting certain mistakes he’s made. I agree with many here regarding Ally Cissokho and Mamadou Sakho for that matter.

So getting back to the author’s wishes here (we may as well respect it chaps since she’s made the effort)

    1. Bid Adieu to Cissokho and Sakho. Both look unsteady in possession and something about both of them reminds me strongly of Djimi Traore.

    2. With AC Milan ready to sell Stephan el-Sharaawy, if Liverpool manage to get him, it may end in a similar mould to last year’s January intakes ie. Sturridge and Coutinho.

    3. Judge Steven Gerrard’s place in the side based on his present performances and condition, not his legendary status at the club. From what I’ve seen this season, Captain Fantastic is struggling by a mile to make much of a difference on the pitch.

brendan is an average manager at most. Cant handle top players and cant attract them. Doesnt rotate his squad like every reasonable manager does. Which would you prefer? Philosophy or sense? And bayern proved last season that you dont have to be as boring as barcelona to pass the ball and be direct in your winnings

3 things I want for liverpool from Santa –
1- a new top class manager. An essential request for any top club
2- for fsg to stop buying youth and go for proven quality in january
3- some real development on the stadium issues

All I want for christmas is early morning news:Dec 24th Brendan Rodgers is now the new swansea manager.Am not saying this cos we lost to Arsenal but bcos we won only 2 matches out of 17 against top 9 teams last season.Truth is top teams are laughing at us cos they know we have championship manager at best and am also afraid even if we make it into top 4.UCL is all about big teams.

  • pino pino says:

That two was out of luck Swansea 2nd team and a penalty against spuds.

I hate Lucas Leiva with passion why? Cos 1 this guy has no winning mentality 2 this guy is good against low teams that he can bully 3 slow, pace zero, goal threat zero, midfield presence zero 4 playing in the shadow of Hendo and Gerrard 5 in 157 games goals 1/assist 1 and 6 seems to rappor with Br that’s why Br didn’t buy someelse cos buying Someone else is replacing him.u guys may say 2010 to 2012 he was good but I believe was playin in the shadow of Adam simple.
