Defining weeks ahead for LFC

LFC celebrateI don’t really believe in ‘defining’ games. Nor do I believe in ‘acid tests’. Each game is a test in the Premier League, and each is as defining as the previous and the next.

It’s all about what the league table says in May and the number of points earned over a nine month period -not a select few games – that constitutes a defining test.

However, I’m going to make an exception and set aside my own belief. Because these next three away games actually do have the right to be called defining for Liverpool FC’s season.

Not as single games though, as I don’t think one of these games against Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea or Manchester City can be deemed as more important than the others; but as a group it could prove to be a bit of a challenge, and you can’t help but thinking there has to be some sort of deeper meaning to it when club captain and still talisman(ish) figure Steven Gerrard gets injured just before the Christmas program.

This was always going to be a tricky block of games – we knew that when the fixture list was released. Get through this and we will be halfway through the season, with January and its transfer window waiting at the other end. Win the home games and nick a few points from the away games; then we should have an idea about whether this season has the potential to be one to remember or one to mark down as ‘steady progress’.

Liverpool travel to White Hart Lane this weekend on the back of two solid wins last week, something that was much needed after the game against Hull City. Less encouraging however, is the fact that they haven’t won a league game there since the last game of the 2007/2008 season; back when Fernando Torres had blonde hair and was everybody’s darling, and Andrey Voronin was still seen as a decent player. Since then it has been bleak and meagre, to say the least. Red cards, late goals and what seems to be a series of stunning goals have made this a less than happy hunting ground for the Reds.

Still, history means precious little when the two teams step onto the pitch Sunday at 4pm.

There’s been too many changes in both camps since 2008 to see a definite pattern behind Liverpool’s inability to grab a point or three from Spurs’ back yard. With that in mind there’s absolutely no reason to be negative and fearful about this particular game. They have a solid squad capable of going toe to toe with anyone in the league, but so far they have lacked the cutting edge Gareth Bale provided for them. There’s no definite get out of jail card for André Villas-Boas in that squad, which could be the detail that sways the game in LFC’s favour this time.

For Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and his players it’s all about carrying on and focus on the task ahead. Then the next one, and then the next – and before we know it, the calendar says January 1. Then we can discuss if the season is yet to be defined or not.

My own is that Br should drop Flanno 4 this game and go with Kelly at RB and Johnson at LB cos Flanno can’t push Lennon and Walker back and doesn’t offer much going forward and and continue with Skrtel and Sakho and give King Luis the captain so he will increase his perfomance to 150% and continue with 4-5-1 formation.

liverpool are dead in midfield.thats the reason we cant stand big teams. We need 2 additions in that area.

  • Ozred says:

    Dead in midfield… drop Flano… Can’t stand big teams… blah blah blah…

heading into xmas we’re second and 2 points of the top…. suck it haters.

Easy start. Easy Middle. Easy End. Who cares. As long as we finish easy top four. Easily biased, Easily brainwashed. Happy Days.

    YNWA.

  • Yana says:

I am so happy with a GREAT GREAT GREAT win against Spurs !!!!

Flanagan is great when pushing up for attack, has stamina, has pride for wearing the shirt, not a lazy bump occasionally spotted on Cissokho and Enrique. Even the usual anonymous Sterling also upped his game.

Finally our Suarez still is the best of the best. The selling price for Suarez might reach within 90m – 100m pounds !!!

LFC for PL title this year !!!

p/s: Gerrard should announce his retirement due to recurring injury.

  • ian says:

    RODGERS OUT!!!

    All together…… Rodgers Out!!!

  • CHUKWUEMEKA says:

this guyz have totally made me eat the humble pie today esp flanno nd hendo. WHAT WAS MIGNOLET DOING TODAY? REPELLING ATTACKS BY THOUGHT? DIDNT MAKE A SINGLE SAVE. kudos to the team for the clean sheet and awesome team performance.

  • Yana says:

Without the oldman Gerrard dragging the team down in match Vs Spurs, we won fantastically! LFC is better without Gerrard – FACT! Yahooooooo !!!! We won !!!!

  • Yana says:

BR starting to show his magic. If things ain’t broken, please don’t fix it. Keep BR and give him serious money for another real quality striker and midfielders.

FSG, please. This is the session where we are realistically capable to win the first ever Premier League title. Give BR at least 60m pound for 1 striker + 2 midfielders. Now or never !!!!!!!!

  • Yana says:

    January transfer target:

[1] offer RVP escape route, 25m pound (believe me, RVP can bang in another 15 – 20 goals this session. Please don’t think too far into future. Grab RVP now and win the title first !)

[2] 10m for Alonso (it seems that Alonso is not keen on R.Madrid contract extension)

[3] 25m for another GREAT midfielder

My list should be doable, just 60m pound for PL title and champions league money. Your thoughts ?

    • Ozred says:

Probably the most rediculous comment of the month. An incredible effort given troll hunters efforts

      • Ozred says:

Actually… What am I thinking… Troll hunter sitting in his dark place with his voodoo doll is in a league of his own. Sorry yana, that was too harsh

  • stevie says:

Rvp. You’re having a laugh right? Alonso is a short term backward step. Any more bright ideas?

    • Yana says:

We need a proven striker that know PL well and RVP fits the requirement perfectly. Manc won the leaue with RVP’s goals. What’s your problem with RVP ????? Reject anything Manc or ex-Manc ??? If that is the case then, you are immature.

      • Diego 'Digger' Souness says:

Haaa haaa!!, whats your other idea? Swap Aspas for Messi!!

        • Yana says:

We need to capitalize on RVP situation. D. Moyes will soon be sacked and top players are going to escape from mediocrity. RVP is one of them that will jump ship on any opportunity.

On the other hand, if you could engineer the so called ‘Aspas for Messi’ deal then millions of LFC supporters will worship you sincerely. Anyway, you look stupid with your suggestion. No trolling please.

          • Diego 'Digger' Souness says:

Oh someone else apparently ‘looks stupid’ coming from the man who thinks the Mancs will sell us Van Persie. LOL!! We have a new resident comedian on here. Very funny indeed!!

  • aaron says:

Deluded fools. Rodgers is championship manager… at best. Until he’s sacked and our easy start come to an end (when is this supposed to be by the way) we haven’t a chance with this clueless manager. Tactically inferior to other more experienced managers, unable to compete against better squads (oh wait, we have?) and completely out of our depth with awful players like Allen and Henderson.

Bring back Souness and the mystical Andy Carroll, then, only then might we have a chance.

Just in case you missed the irony, my comments are very un serious, unless you are a Rodgers hater, in which case…. You completely agree with the above.

  • Yana says:

Andre Villas-Boas sacked! D. Moyes will soon be sacked. FSG should ready for RVP bidding.

  • Shittle says:

Manchester united will not sell a player to liverpool and(vice versa),,,,,what are you,,,2yrs old???? If not wake up pls

    • Yana says:

      Money talks. Need more explanation?

      • Patrick says:

????? Man ure lost money on Heinze , rather than sell him to us

There are a million more reasons why it’s never going to happen so stop dreaming

        • Yana says:

Man U under mediocre D. Moyes is different story. D. Moyes still has mediocre mentality and will agree the deal with us if the price tag is right. Man U is nothing without A. Ferguson.
