Yevhen-Konoplyanka-3088844Following Liverpool’s resounding 4-nil victory over city rivals Everton on Tuesday night, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers spoke to press and TV about Liverpool’s fairly inactive and stale January window.

There had been suggestions that Rodgers was unhappy with Ian Ayre and the club’s transfer committee over the lacks of action during the window. “I think we will hopefully do something over the next couple of days,” he said.

“I saw some headlines after yesterday’s press conference in terms of the manager being angry with the club – nothing is further from the truth.”

After a run of average results and performances over Christmas and into the early part of January, Liverpool’s squad had begun to look decidedly bare and it was suspected that owners FSG would fund any moves that Rodgers required to bolster a very small, tired looking squad but as moves failed to materialize, which culminated in losing out on Egyptian International Salah to rivals Chelsea, things began to look bleak in the build-up to the biggest derby in years.

A great performance and hugely convincing result against a team vying for that coveted top-4 spot though could be just what the doctor ordered in terms of reinvigorating Liverpool’s second half of the season and Rodgers seemed to suggest that a big signing could be incoming before deadline day.

“We are not just going to get the players we want to get in for a number of reasons.

“Hopefully we can have a major signing before the window shuts and if we can do that we will be set up for the remaining games.”

Early on Wednesday morning rumours began to circulate that the ‘big’ signing could be Ukrainian international Yehven Konoplyanka but that remains to be seen and many would see strengthening the defensive areas of midfield as a much more pressing issue in Lucas’s absence.

It is obvious the players ve given their best and surely the team need major signings now, bcos of injuries concern and tire but over streched legs. Top 4 is a MUST and should be taken very seriously. YWNWA

Please explain the average results over christmas! We lost two games away to the sides that are expected to finish 1st & 2nd. One of these games we were robbed of a draw and the other we more than matched man city.

The same ‘big moves’ that saw us sign mkhitaryan, sneijder , costa , eriksen and salah ?

    Clowns are running our club

If Rodgers wins the FA cup and gets 4th then he deserves another year. Or we are just going through the motions again next season.

Anybody would think we are 4th from bottom not 4th from top. We’ve just won the merseyside derby 4 -0 and still the moaning persists. We are only playing one game a week so our squad should be able to handle the games we have left. Fsg are not going to spend silly amounts. John henry is a businessman. He is not going to piss away his fortune pumping stupid amounts of money into the club. Get used to that. Like it or not

And if we signed konoplyanka who would make way? Sterling? If so, that would just about sum up everything that is wrong with the english game. Promising young english talent making great strides this season ends up on the bench and career stagnates.

  • smiling j says:

Look at all the teams around us, they all hav international players and are not complaining. Wat is wrong if liverpool hav a good bench with good internationals. Bcos he is english he doesn’t deserve to be on the bench?
