article-2554029-1B4B999200000578-856_634x462With the top-4 of the Premier League currently delicately poised, Liverpool are currently sitting in a position of power, in the sense that they are not only involved in the run-in for the final placings but given their remaining games against members of the league’s current 4 top sides, could prove crucial to deciding who wins the league.

Reds legend, Ian Rush, believes that Liverpool are well-placed to have a big say in where the top-4 sides finish in the 12 remaining games, saying “We are still the outsiders to win the title but the fact we’re still in the race at this stage of the season shows how far we’ve come under Brendan.

“We’ve still got Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham to play at home. Even if we don’t win the league, we will have a big say in who does win it.

“We all wanted to do well in the cup but that’s gone now and we need to concentrate on the league. Hopefully losing in the cup will prove to be a blessing in disguise.”

Like many of use, Rushie has since gotten over the disappointment of the defeat to Arsenal at the weekend believes that no further distractions could prove to be ideal for Liverpool as the big run-in for the Premier League title and Champions League places reaches its’ climax.

With games against City, Chelsea and Tottenham (and also Manchester United….) Liverpool not only have the opportunity to take points from sides directly above and below them, but also put a spanner in their own claims for the top spots.

The goal-scoring legend went on to say “They (the players) are thinking: ‘We can’t really attack too much because we will get done’. Trying to just defend isn’t working for visiting teams either as we have learned how to break teams down.

“Brendan has got the players believing in themselves and you can see that confidence levels are high. We’re playing attacking football which is exciting to watch.

“The crowd sense that belief at Anfield and they really get behind the team. If we go into those games against Chelsea and City knowing if we beat them we could go above them, then I think the crowd will make a big difference for us.”

It’s hard not to take it to heart when a player that has seen and done it all for the club, and is currently still involved with the club, has such a level of confidence in the current squad and I’m sure we’re all with Rushie in getting behind the team for the big run to the end of what could yet prove to be Liverpool’s most successful season in over 20 years.
