BhgmhC7CQAAeXh2Early 2nd half goals from Jordan Lussey and a Wolves own goal ensured that Liverpool’s U21 side romped to another impressive 2014 result.

Just prior to half-time, in the 44th minute, Liverpool took the lead through Jack Dunn, following a first half of pressure.  Dunn took the ball in the midfield the, took a Gerrard-esque run forward and smashed one in from over 25 yards.

The goal clearly opened the proverbial floodgates, as the second half was barely 3 minutes of the second half the scored had been trebled, with an own goal and a great move that ended in a Lussey goal, after a superb cross from Villyan Bijev.

The second half followed in much the same way as the first, with the Reds dominant throughout and before long the score was 4:0, after Jordan Rossiter swerved his way around several attempted tackles before slipping the ball into the Wolves net.

The win takes Liverpool U21s up into second, on goal difference, albeit with 2 games in hand on leaders Fulham who are currently sitting 3 points ahead of this talented young Liverpool side.

With a +17 goal difference and easily the most goals scored in the division, the young Reds are taking a leaf out of the book of the senior side by taking games by the throat, with a real swashbuckling attitude.

It bodes well for Liverpool that, with so many talented youngsters, such as Suso, Coady, Ibe and Robinson out on loan, and the likes of Sterling, Flanagan and Teixera making the move into first-team squad regulars, the squad is still strong enough to make a real go of the U21s Premier League.

While it isn’t his personality to boast, it is clear that the work begun by Rafa Benitez while he was at the club has finally started to come to fruition and Liverpool will not be short of talent coming through the young ranks for some time to come.
