Rodgers Taking It One Game At A Time

Liverpool's Brendan RodgersWhilst everybody and their dog is now beginning to sit up and believe that this Liverpool side could genuinely make a challenge for the Premier League title, Brendan Rodgers is – rather sensibly – not saying too much on the topic.

In the past 18 months, on a number of occasions, Rodgers could be accused of getting as over-excited as the fans when a string of wins or an unbeaten run is put together but following Sunday afternoon’s 4:3 victory over Swansea at Anfield the Liverpool manager was keen to play down any talk of the title, at least until the real ‘run-in’ is approaching.

Rodger’s told LFC.tv “It was a very important three points for us – it keeps our run going and keeps the momentum. We know we’re going to have a tough game next week as well.

“Every game in the Barclays Premier League is tough. But we can be really proud of the character we showed to keep pushing and keep going.”

As mentioned yesterday, on live4liverpool.com the character that Liverpool have shown in recent months is a real plus and will be a key attribute in any the sides bid for Champions League football next season.

Whilst Liverpool maintained the 11 point lead over last seasons’ Champions Manchester United to 4th place, the lead over Spurs was extended to 6 points, thanks to Norwich’s 1-nil victory on Sunday.

With 3 away games in succession, the 6 point cushion could prove invaluable to Liverpool in the next few weeks, as games away to Southampton, Cardiff City and Manchester United test the Reds small squad to it’s limits.

Despite the important 3 points yesterday, there is no doubt that Liverpool’s defence remains a major issue, something which will no doubt need to be in some way rectified over the next 11 games and will be an area in which Brendan Rodgers will be looking for much improvement as the season enters it’s final third.

One thing is certain though, provided Liverpool keep on out-scoring their opponents, there’s no telling how high the Reds can finish this season.
