Premier League Title: Why Not?

IHN SPT 080214-25Do we have the right to consider winning the league?  According to the pundits and the rest of England we are a two man team that has been gifted our proximity to the top by the turmoil of new managers and the skill of SAS.  What they ignore is the cohesion of the team and its astonishing belief in each other and their manager.

I have wondered over the past few seasons why Man U have been so successful in winning games and harvesting so many points when I considered their performances marginal.  Their tendency to be outclassed yet forcing teams to beat themselves was almost tangible.

What was happening, I believe, was that they were bleeding the last drops of an aura that was taking its time to disappear down the drain – an aura that has settled in the Liverpool dressing room like a subtle fog.  It has begun to establish itself in the minds of opposition players and will eventually become apparent, even to the pundits and sports columnists.

This is a team that believes in itself and the source may be Luis Suarez, Flanno, Henderson, Rodgers, or the combination of all of them and more.  The margins at the elite level in any sport are so narrow that success often comes down to having the right players rather than the best players – the confidence rather than the compensation of the players.

With 11 games to go before the end of the season, would any of us had believed, in September, that the team would have come this far?  Yet here we are and, when you think of it, we could very well be at the top of the chart right now.

We were fully deserving of at least 4 points out of our fixtures against Chelsea and Man City over Christmas.  If those games had ended justly, we would be 4 points richer and our opponents would each be at least 3 points poorer.  That would be a 6 point difference, more than enough to vault those ahead of us to the pinnacle!

This team compares favourably, in terms of points and swagger, with the best we’ve had in the Premier League.  We have more goals than anyone in Europe save Real Madrid.  We have the top two scorers in the EPL.

So are we contenders?  Do we have a better management team than Chelsea, Man City, or Arsenal?  Can we have a poor game and still win?  Can we humiliate our top rivals?  Can we fight through injuries to key players?  Do we have anything in reserve?

Accuse me of optimism if you will, but this side has the talent, the mindset, and the will to prevail.  Top Four be damned! We want it all!

Not a chance with a joke back four and a goalie that can’t catch a cross! We cant keep outscoring the opposition, surprised our bubble has’nt burst by now. Must beat Manure at their place, that will be our big game.

  • itstrue says:

Whilst the defence has been poor we will never win anything with mignolet. Need someone to command a defence. we will stop scoring 4 long before we stop conceding 3

  • Aaron says:

Yes it’s possible. Just as possible to remain fourth or a little worse. Either way, it’s clear for all to see….even the non deluded, can now see, (hahaha – private joke), we are moving rapidly in the right direction… with the right manager. Oh and thanks to FSG… for hiring this ‘clown’ (again, private joke).

A lot of people questioned Rodgers when he bought so many defenders in the Summer… well where would we be now without having those defenders as options? Almost every one of our CB’s has at one point been injured or out of form for a little while, alongside Kelly, Enrique, Johnson and Flanagan as full backs.

    ‘In Brendan I trust’

Aaron ur a joke.Even a blind man can see that our defence and goalie are a big joke.I need Begovic and Chico Flores alongside Sakho.Even Johnson is lazy and lack 90 mins of concentration.Pls Brendan sort this out.

i hate seeing Johnson, cissioko, and Toure on the pitch in the red jessy. am worried about Suarez goal scoring calamity. coach pls do something about his new role cos i want the versitile player to take what he deserve. Reina come no more………..u r the cause of our previous performances.

    • Aaron says:

Sorry, what I meant was, that with all the injuries to defenders, having lots of them was better than having less. Yes they have all not gelled etc, but imagine if we only had two less defenders. Would be considerably more difficult.

  • Al says:

No chance, we need to concentrate on getting fourth. That is all

  • peter says:

We don’t concede like that against big team. D fault is nt mignolet but d defence. When defence is not good goalkeeper makes silly mistake.

  • Fritz says:

With such negative fans, it is doubly commendable that the team has done so well. lol.

  • Kay says:

Pino you want chico flores? Are you serious he is a mistake waiting to happen did you not see how many balls he gave away coz he thinks he is better footballer than he is the amount if times he costs Swansea goals is unbelievable. You need to stop embarrassing yourself and us by claiming you a supporter. Plz sort yourself out.

  • richard GH says:

we are the true tittle winners this year and for sure we shall take it in Jesus name. suarez will open his free goal scoring against soton.

  • samson says:

our goalie is poor, johnson is bad with ball, toure has no confidence. do smth Roger

  • pino pino says:

Kay I bet u don’t watch Chico often? what about Begovic?

  • Kay says:

Actually I do watch Swansea often and chico is not good enough to sit on our bench, he gives up to much possession and gets caught out of position coz he losses the ball to far up the field, his decision making is questionable, careless and rash, his a soft touch. Begovic is a good keeper but even he would concede with the way we defend. I’m just happy we can score more than the other team on the day.

  • stevie yanna says:

Just 4 points off the leader. Why not ??? In Suarez we trust !!!

  • James K says:

I suppose it’s out of our hands if the three teams ahead of us don’t drop points, but we’ve beaten one and we face the other two at Anfield. That gives us a bit more control over our destiny. And while it’s true that we’re having trouble at the back, it’s inevitable given our attacking philosophy. We aren’t a team that can rely on a staunch defence, but we can sure as hell score goals, and I think that Rodgers is playing to our strengths.

  • Jonnah says:

everythng’z possible,we’v got a very gud team dis czon
