Another Draw, Another Missed Opportunity

Kolo TourĂ© watches as West Brom scoreWhile many of Liverpool’s near rivals squandered opportunities to push ahead in the top 4 at the weekend Liverpool too missed the chance to increase the gap at the top. By now Liverpool should easily be well clear of Manchester United and Tottenham with only Everton left as genuine challengers for fourth but when each of their rivals drops points Liverpool have tended to follow suit, somewhat disappointingly.

On Sunday afternoon over at the Hawthorns, the Reds one again looked slow, lethargic and disinterested as they faced an opposition that they would be expected to overcome with relative ease. However, Kolo Toure saw to it that that wasn’t the case.

Not all of the blame can be placed on Toure though, as the entire team was lax and very poor throughout.

As I – and others on this site – have written before, there is either dome miscommunication between the manager and players as to what is expected of them in these games , particularly away from home, or the manager himself has somehow let the players believe that these are easy games that should be won without much effort. Either way the outcome is hugely disappointing.

Over the past 6 month the Reds have been equal to or bettered most opposition and e en when poor have managed to pull a point or more out of the bag but with a little more effort and consistency the top 4 would already a forgone conclusion and it would be the top 1 or 2 that would be up for grabs.

Many will of course will point to our terrible performance in the January window sure, while an extra top player or three may have helped, the fact remains that the side Liverpool had out in Sunday should have not only performed far better, but should also have won comfortably. Against a side that contains Victor Anichebe nothing short of victory should be expected.

Fingers crossed it will be another point added to the CL qualifying total.

A few other top teams have failed to take maximum points against W.Brom, maybe it’s time they got some credit for performing well at home instead of negative outlook on the result. Football isn’t a science so ‘expect’ to win just isn’t good enough. You have to ‘earn’ the win. And we didn’t do that.

Away games in EPL are often tough fixtures. When you are 0-1 up well into the second half you don’t need to keep possession at all costs. Better off putting the ball in non-dangerous areas. Playing the ball across your own goal in those circumstances is absolute madness.

Pino; the minute I know less than you about football is the minute I officially cease commenting, I wouldn’t want to continually embarrass myself.

How was it clear the players were not happy with the board? Did they too not post on a Tim Williams article either? Your question: ‘why didn’t I see you on Tim Williams post?’ (the last remaining logic you operate on is in danger of collapse) …. I’ll leave for you to answer, your the one with the vivid imagination. Throw @realist and @troll hunter into your vivid story, and make sure there is a good plot with a twist too.

I think I have commented on TW most recent posts, it’s generally the negative brigade who encourage me to post, not author, especially when their explanations don’t make sense. That’s why your comments, in particular, are like a beacon to me.

We could have signed that guy everyone wanted (although he was on no ones list before rumours became fact) and he injured himself on his first training day. If that happened, we’d have to deal with the squad we have.

So let’s just deal with it and move on shall we….

Does no one teach our defence not to dwell on the ball and wait for the oponent to close you down before passing. Sometimes it seems like our defence are trying to look cool on the ball. In games where they pass it early we play with a much better tempo and are less predictable. Mignolet says don’t blame Toure but he is to blame just as much. He takes too much time to prepare for a clearance and doesn’t hit it pass the halfway line. We can’t afford anymore performances like this, the writer of this article is right, we should be well clear of 5th . Now we have to win against arsenal !

To me Toure and Cissokho dont look comfortable on the ball at all. Just look at them. We desperately need Enrique back and Agger.

Come on Liverpool youve done the hard work so far, dont buckle up now.

on another point……….according to reports, tom ince turned us down because he isn’t ready for us yet. well by the time you think you’re ready tom, don’t wait by the phone expecting a call. you might only get one chance to come back to the club. the club will not bother offering 10m or whatever your club think you’re worth then when they could have bought you for next to nothing. enjoy yourself at palace. that’s probably where you’ll stay
