Rodgers Chasing Bayern Superstar?

389702With some of the recent transfer rumours on the somewhat underwhelming side, today’s rumours regarding a certain Bayern Munich wide man will certainly have many Liverpool fans salivating at the thought.

This morning’s press has seen Brendan Rodger’s side being linked with one Xherdan Shaqiri, the young Swiss international (oddly enough, born in Yugoslavia to Albanian parents!) who only joined Bayern as recently as summer 2012.

The 22-year old has enjoyed a successful spell with the German giants so far, scoring 14 goals in little over 60 games since his move from FC Basel where he first made his name.

The left-footer is known as something of a speed-merchant and, given Liverpool change in tactics to exploit the pace running throughout the side since the turn of the year, it would be a move that would make sense for all parties, particularly given that Shaqiri is likely to see his game-time further limited over the summer and FSG’s preference for younger, more saleable talent.

Speaking of his younger siblings future, Shaqiri’s brother said “We are waiting now until summer. Then, when clubs make approaches such as Liverpool, Manchester United, Inter Milan and other top clubs, we can listen to their offers. That said, Bayern still remains our first point of contact before we talk to other clubs.”

All things considered, it would be foolish to see that this wouldn’t be a good move for all parties and Liverpool would have to be a preferred destination with (providing things don’t implode) Champions League football all but guaranteed next season but if the Swiss winger became available Liverpool would be up against many suitors for the Bayern stars coveted signature.
