gerrard-1200It’s the 27th May 2019 , Liverpool had just wrapped up their 22nd  league title and are playing in the Champions League final in Italy in 3 days time.  This will also be Steven Gerrard’s swansong, and it all started way back in March of 2014, so let’s go back 5 years and see what changed and brought the club back to its brilliant best.

Liverpool were sitting pretty , 2nd on the table and were set to face Man United, Man City and Chelsea all in the same month.  This would ultimately decide the destination of the title and prove to be the turning point in  Liverpool’s quest for league honours.

Wishful thinking?  Or a short look into the future of LFC?

Liverppol are currently the form team; the free scoring, free flowing, free spirited attacking team in the whole of Europe, nevermind England, and the fans are loving it.  In fact, if you are not an Liverpool FC fan at the moment, you are either look up at us thinking “I wish my team was…”, or  looking back at us thinking “oh no, we’ve got go to Anfield!”.

Whatever you’re thinking, let me assure you that you are correct in thinking about Liverpool in this way. I think that Liverpool FC got rid of the key element that has been holding us back for all these years, that huge monkey on our backs called ‘lack of consistency’.  If we look back at games LFC would’ve lost a few years ago; we go back to the very opening game of the season with the late penalty save from Mignolet; the late goal by Daniel Sturridge to seal a draw at Everton or even the late Winner at Swansea and the late late Steven Gerrard penalty at Fulham to seal the 3 points, the Liverpool of old would not have the strength and willpower  to go and simply take the 3 points. These were games where the team worked hard and got results.

Thankfully its not just due to the brilliance of our in-form (62% goal per game ratio over 100 games)  Luis Suarez but players like Hendo, the emerging Sterling as a goal scoring midfielder, and even Skrtel as the main threat at corners.  Then there is the pass master Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge as the other half of the SAS threat.

Yes the defence has been like a horror show at times but thankfully we are outscoring the rest of the league currently.  Sadly, as good as we are going forward, we are a house made of sticks at the back with any huffing, puffing  big bad wolf blowing us away too often.

The great news is that our defence may be back to full strength for the this very important month in LFC’s history, with  Johnson back and the very solid Lucas providing cover ahead of the center back pairing of Agger and Skrtel.  With these may just have a three or four game period where we don’t concede, and if that happens we will be very, very close to the top spot.

The quietly confident fans have already begun singing “we’re going to win the league… ” (as heard at Southampton).  It’s early days but no fan deserves it more than a Liverpool fan.  No team deserves praise more, no manager deserves credit more, and lastly, no club deserves it more than Liverpool, and the future looks bright.

Of course, the only thing standing between Liverpool FC and title number 19, I think, is Howard Webb. So, please, dear God don’t let that walking disaster referee the city or Chelsea game!

Well done Jason for proving that Chelsea supporters are thick. The bit you obviously couldn’t process was

” In fact, if you are not an Liverpool FC fan at the moment, you are either look up at us thinking “I wish my team was…”, or looking back at us thinking “oh no, we’ve got go to Anfield!”.”

The author clearly states that there is a team above us. If you can’t understand that then get your mummy or child minder to explain it to you.
